What is the difference between these two units and is one better than the other?

I looked at the features chart on the equipment page and as far as I can see the differnces are that ATRAC is different and the 505 is NETMD.

However, what practically do these differences mean? What is the difference between ATRAC at >4.5 and at DSP-R? Does one use the USB and one doesn't??

Also if the r700 is not NETMD does this just mean it doesn't plug into the USB??

Any help appreciated.

as you've noticed the N505 has Type R ATRAC (which was only used in the highest quality decks) and sports NetMD functionality but lacks a Mic In jack (i think) whereas the R700 just has a normal ATRAC and no NetMD capability but has a Mic In jack...the Type R DSP is meant to yield better recording results than that of normal ATRAC as the processing capacity is increased and some other trickeries they do make it so....and yes the N505 uses USB to connect to ur PC so that u can download songs to it faster than real-time...with the R700 u need to record using cables and in real-time...

If I have a M505 coming (used) and an R700 coming (new, never opened) and only intend to keep one - which should I keep?

I'm thinking the R700 just because it is new and unused and my "clock" starts running right now interms of Sony warranty and etc.

What would you recommend knowing the units?
