I was trying to do some research on the new SonicStage, but I was unable to find anything except for this link http://www.connect.com (might not be working) which just tells you that Sony is including a new music download service similar to iTunes, with SS 2.0.

I was hoping to find out whether or not it will be as error proned and/or clunky as it's predecessor. I hope they took the time to improve the layout and design.

I've googled the crap out of this topic and have not been able to find good info, so if some one else can help me out....that would be kewl!

I have a vaio, but as it did not come with SS 2.0, if I install 2.0 on it, I might lose the CD copy capability... I too hope it generalizes that benefit to all. It might, for competitive reasons.

Also, with the unlimited checkout capability of SS 2.0 (they now call it "take out" rather than "check out") the software might be much more reliable as it no longer needs to keep track of the count.

Here are a couple of screen shots of what SS2.0 looks like:

And here is a pic of someone storing stuff on there portable HiMD Drive:

And Sony now has a page all about SS2.0:

The copy of SS 2.0 I'm using now does NOT have unlimited checkouts-- it still tracks how many times it's been played, checked out, etc. It also tells me I have 3 checkouts (not sure if checkout is the exact wording but same thing) remaining on an OMG track.

The help file indicates there'll be cd burning for VIAO computers so I would think you'd still be able to if you were before, unless you need a special copy that comes bundled with your VAIO. Otherwise CD burning does not seem to be included with SS 2.0 for non-VAIO computers.

Granted, this *might* change with the introduction of Connect. Maybe not, though... Sony will want us to buy their network walkman, Hi-MD, or Atrac3+ cd player in order to take our Connect purchases on the go... lame.

Yeah, I just downloaded it today. I think the reason behind this is that the version I (and presumably you) am (are) using is for the ATRAC3 CD player. It doesn't install a newer OMG security module or net-md driver. It just uses the one that's already installed by a previous version of SonicStage. I'm sure the new functionality will be available when sony releases the Hi-MD version of Sonic Stage.
