Hi,

my dad just bought a new N-510 and since I'm the tech guy in our family I'm supposed to make all of this work.

Here's the problem:

I've installed the softwares bundled with the player without problem, but when I plug the N-510 into my Pc using the USB cable, my PC doesn't seem to recognise it. I go to the device manager page and there are no (!), no device conflict or else; just like I had not installed anything. On the SonicStage screen when I run it I have the "Device is not connected" mesage....

On the N-510, I can see the MD--PC icon that is flashing, so the connections must have been ok.

I've reinstalled about 5 times, tried program upgrades, driver upgrades, read various posts about similar problems but to no use.

I run Windows XP Professionnal with everything up to date. In fact this device is the first thing that haven't worked on my PC since a long time.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

I found the solution, very strangely though.

I opened the MD player to show to my girlfriend what was a Minidisc and when I popped it back in, it stopped spinning (it was spinning non-stop before that). I heard the USB-chime sound and voilà! The unit was detected.

However I suspect of having a bad unit (and going to the store today for a replacement) for a couple reasons:

1: When I try to record music using SonicStage or Simple Burner, it usually fails around 10-12%, no matter every setting I try.

2: I randomly get the "Device not connected" problem, and sometimes the minidisc inside the unit keeps on spinning, sometimes it stops after 5 minutes. I tried 2 different minidiscs and I have the same problem.

Too much weird stuff happening with this player, my little finger tells me that it is defective simple as that.

Thanks for the replys though!!

S.
