Sony MZ-R90 finally kicked the bucket...replacement?

After about 3 years of almost daily usage, my trusty R90 has developed a rather severe "hiccuping" problem while recording - when a newly recorded disc is played back, about 3/4 of the tracks cannot play at all, and the tracks that do are marred with skips and gaps. I figure it isn't worth the time or the effort to go repairing a model this old, so now I'm looking for an equivalent replacement.

-I'm really looking more for a straight replacement, than for the newest model (don't really care about UMD right now). Since the R90 was discontinued quite a while ago (and I don't want to buy used), I guess I have to look at the newer models.

-Model must have line-in and line-out (don't care about NetMD). I can live without a mic-in.

-Preferably output levels from the headphone jack would be similar.

-Looking at under than $200, preferably ~150.

-Sony or Sharp, either one is ok by me.

Thanks for any recommendations.

I'm going to assume you're in the USA, Atomsk.

Are you willing to import? There is a much larger selection to be had if you do.

For starters, there is the DR7(DR480)/DR420/MT888/MT899 from Sharp and the R909/R910/N1/N707/N10 (maybe to pricey) from Sony. Also there is the Panasonic MR220 and MR230.

if u can wait a while i suggest that u wait for the new Hi-MD's to come out and see how they compare with the current units...if they're not as we've expected then u can grab urself a good deal on the current units as the prices would've gone down due to the retailers selling off old stock...

If NetMD is no concern, then Mystylers suggestion of the Sharp MD-DR7 would make a great unit for you. The unit itself is small, very robust and will sound miles ahead of your R90 due to Sharps signature 1-Bit Digital Amp. You really can't go wrong with the DR7... it's a pretty much perfect MD Recorder.

Any good deals on the DR7? Cheapest I've seen is at audiocubes for $239.

edit: $18 shipping on a *<1lb item? Rrrghh!

If there's one thing I've learned about minidisc, it's that old models almost never discount appreciably :x
