ikerCLoN
Hi, guys! I bought my MZ-N505 unit a few months ago, and I'm tired of that crappy remote control. I don't know the exact model, but you know, it's that black plastic cylinder without LCD and only with playback and volume controls... oh, well, and EDIT, CAPS, T MARK and DELETE. But the point is that I use to group my music in several folders, and it would be nice to access the "change folder" option (GROUP / CANCEL button) by the remote control. So the question would be... are all the remote controls available for MD suitable for my model? I've just read the backlight issue. No problem. But a LCD display a couple more of operations would be nice... In order to do this, may i did the "unit hack"??? Or not??? Thanks in advance! Christopher
Welcome. Unfortunately, not all remotes are compatible with your unit. For best results, I believe you should try the Sony RM-MC11EL or RM-MC12ELK.
Zbigas
I own my MZ-N505 for about half a year and it's my first unit. I was unsatisfied with my remote (RM-MZ4R, the same that ikerCLon have mentioned), because I THOUGHT there was no group function on it and I was planning to buy Sony RM-MC11EL or Sony RM-MC12ELK. But a few weeks ago I have discovered that if I press the "DELETE" button for ~2 seconds, a group function is activated and then I can select group by presing fast forward/rewind buttons!! Also, by pressing and holding "EDIT" button for ~2seconds you can enter the MENU (IMHO, it is almost useless unless remote has not a lcd display). The only button which is "a mystery" on my remote is a "T MARK" button. It should place a track mark, but it just isn't working: doesn't matter if you just press or hold it... Maybe it require some kind of combination of buttons... So, the only bad thing about my RM-MZ4R remote is that it has not an LCD display, however it is quite tolerable for me. And one question: Is the Sony RM-MC33EL compatible with MZ-N505? Audiocubes says it is compatible with N707, and, in fact that these units are very similar, I thought that this remote could work with N505 too. Am I right? mAjEsTiC
i think it would work although i haven't done any tests to confirm this...so it's a shaky yes...
ikerCLoN
A GROUP function available through my crappy remote control? Wow! Thanks a lot, Zbigas!
Zbigas
I'm glad to know that my "discovery" helped you! ;D
aeriyn
And one question: Is the Sony RM-MC33EL compatible with MZ-N505? Audiocubes says it is compatible with N707, and, in fact that these units are very similar, I thought that this remote could work with N505 too. Am I right? The RM-MC33EL works with a lot. I know it works with the N505 (tried it with mine). It also works with the MD units of the NE410 design. I would imagine it would work with an N1 and an N707, probably NF810. It works with the MZ-NH600D, but only the US version. The UK version does not have a remote jack. o.O And it appears to come with the NH900. Since the EEPROM in the R900 and the N505 are the same chip (yeah I did the R900 hack on my N505) I imagine the MC33EL would work on my R900, although I've not tried it. Besides I only have one MC33EL and it gets used a lot on my N10. @.@
