rcaruso
I just bought a used Sony MZ-N505 and it has a "NO Disc" error no matter what type of disk i use in the unit. It came with a blank disk and the unit still gives me a "No Disc" error, instead of a Blank Disc" error. I also tried using a disc with music that my friend uses in his MD (MZ-NE410) I was wondering if anyone knows how to fix it or should i spend the extra money and have Sony to fix it for me? Any kind of suggestions will be much appreciated. Rico "Suave" :wacky:
mAjEsTiC
not sure if this is the right answer but it may seem that the ribbon to the recording head in ur unit may be broken...there is a post here made by our fellow member that explains what has happened...but if u don't want to rip apart the unit urself to check it then i suggest that u take it back to Sony and get them to fix it up 4 u... rcaruso
Thanks for the info!!! I really appreciate it! I have a friend who has a store that fixes electronics. I'll have him take a look and see if it is a broken ribbon! If it is I'll see if he can fix it. Thanks again mAjEsTic...You Rock! Rico"Suave" I bought some batteries, but they weren't included. crazeybt1
nah...the no disc error usually appears after trying to record n cuz the ribon's damaged the disc's toc is damaged for good..in his case i believe his lens off balanced..so what happens is that when he pops in his disc the unit keeps searching the disc..it starts from the start of the disc then gradually go down then comes up saying no disc or sometimes read err. rcaruso
So how do i fix this. How do I adjust the lens? Or should I get it serviced?
crazeybt1
Please read this atleast twice b4 taking ne action if u got the guts 2 ne way  well servicing is an option  .. it's probably the best thing u could do..but if u wanna know how to balance the lens..u first need a very tiny philips or flat tip screw driver..open the unit (remember unfasten the screws holding the back first..take off the back then the front ..rememeber to b very careful when taking apart the front..unplug the cable connecting the chip board for the controls to the board.by unlocking the cable by pulling down the latch like thing) now the entire lens mechanism is connected to the uhh( u'll c the ribon connected to the magnetic head do not touch the very flimsy looking strip of metal but rather use the metal that it's screwed onto) it can b moved side to side by applying a lil pressure to move it ..move it a lil so the lens n the head is more to the far left..now look near the lens to the lower right i think.. u'll c a lil silver philips looking head..don't b mistaken it's not a screw...now apply very lil pressure when using the screw driver on it..make sure ur using a screw driver cuz it's made outa something like uhh...foil or something it's very very fragile..now twist it i'd say bout 15 degrees to the clockwise...reconect the cover do not screw the unit back just yet..but just put it back together (seeing it's the N505 u don't have to do all that..just c insert ur battery or power cable)..re connect the controls to the main board insert a disc n hold it close..plug in ur head phones...then press play ..it's gonna b a lil awkward to do this...if u notice the leans moving from the center to the begining of the disc then ur problem's almost solved or solved..if it then moves from the start of the disck..n it's like seeking then..u gotta try tweaking the screw like thingy another 15 degress...NOTE..only do it 4 times..do more at ur own risk..if after doing it 4 times clockwise try doing it 15 degrees x 4 anticlockwise till it reach where u started then do it anticlock wise n try inserting the disc again...now if u've followed these instructions just as i've told u (hoping that u understand clearly what i've said) that should take care of ur problem....but wait........u asked a question n i try giving u an answer....DO IT AT YOUR OWN RISK (the only reason i ever had to do it was cuz i was idle some time had an old R500 that wasn't working..my warranty was up..n it worked..SIKE i knew what i was doing  ...) ne ways good luck.. oh 1 more thing oh 1 final detail..that lil screw like thing that i told u to twist...at 1st there's gonna b resistance...as i said use lil pressure..n don't press down when screwing..now if u find there's no resistance...i can tell u what to do  but once it reaches that far....my best advice is to have it serviced...(or wait again...u can tell what problem u got with ur MD n fix it urself.. u never have to go to a repair shop..most of the components can be replaced by u. it's not rocket science..my only prob is finding the parts..) rcaruso
Thanks a lot! It really cool that you took the time and explained it to me how to repair the MD. I'm not that handy with small devices like it and I happen to have a family friend that has an electronic service store that will fix it, but I'm going to give him your instructions and see what happens! Again...Thanks a million!! I'll post the results just to let you know what happened!
