Hey people. I am totally new to MD palyers but i am planing on getting one of the new HI-MD models. I have been reading around the forums and learning as much as i could. However, not everything is out there.

So here is my question: The new Sony MZ-NH900, is it a completely flat square, front and back. Because in this picture:

it looks like there is sum lump in the back.

Thanks a lot...

hmm...i doubt it's a lump i think it's just the back of the cradle that supports the MD in it with previous cradles they got the base n then they MD slants back a lil..but there's a rest from the cradle..uhh can't put my hands on ne back views of it at the moment..but if u still wanna find out after it drops i'm sure some1's gonna do a review on it then u'll c it .. but idoubt it's a lump..not only that but that's one of the uhh..high end models ur talking about it's not likely that it will have a lump behind seeing that the only reason for the lumps behind MD Units is for the battery this Unit don't use AA batteris rather it uses a gumpack Battery it looks flat n pretty much like a stick of gum http://minidisco.com/nh-14wm.html that link should take u to a site with a pic of the battery it might look round but in fact it's pretty slim..so with all this in mind i'm positive it's not a lump...other wise all the MD gurus wouldn't even give it soo much attention.....ne who..

but you can use a normal AA battery?    i hope yes!

'cause in the spec chart(ecxept MZ-NH1) it is wrtitten ni-mh battery and AA... so you can use a normal AA battery? and if yes where you can put it?

in the old MD there was a lump....! so the newer Hi-MD are completely flat in the back?

As I understand the specs, you can use regular AA batteries in the unit. It will also charge NiMH batteries. This was a pretty critical factor in my decision to purchase the NH900 (well, preorder, that is!). I already have 4 2100mAh NiMH batteries that I will be able to use in the unit.

From the pic above, you can see part of the back that swells out... that must be where the battery goes. HOPEFULLY I'll have my NH900 in my hot little hands in a couple weeks!

The following units will use only AA batteries:

NH800, NH700, NH600. They all have the "bump" on the back where the AA battery goes. You can use either the rechargable that's included or a standard alkaline AA battery.

As DarkYDK said, the NH900 will take a gumstick sized NiMH battery, so the unit will be flat across the back. For longer battery life, there will be an attachment that you can hook up that takes AA batteries, so you can have both the NiMH and AA at the same time for even longer battery life. The AA battery case just attaches to the end of the unit, making it a bit longer.

I also believe that "bump" you see on the back of the NH900 is just a piece of the charging cradle that props the unit up. I doubt they'd put a bump there and still use gumstick shaped NiMH batteries!

Eh? The NH900 should NOT have a bump.

I'm saying the 800,700,600 will all likely have bumps as suggested by their dimensions. They have the bumps because they use internal AA batteries.

The N900 is thinner because it uses the thinner "gumstick" battery.
