Anyhow, I am curious as to if the Simple Burner/Nero trick that involves mounting a virtual CD from a CD image will still work with Hi-MD and if it will allow burning of the tracks/virtual CD at Hi-SP or Hi-LP modes? This is important because most of my music right now is encoded in FLAC files and then put into Matroska containers with album art, cue sheets, etc., and there's no way that anything (save foobar2000) will work with this (somewhat arcane) file format. Luckily with foobar2000 I can create nero CD images on the fly from _any_ track in _any_ format (via the CD burning plugin... I just have to set it to write an image instead of the actual CD). Anyway I will stop confusing everyone for now. Depending on the answer I will have to either get a Hi-MD unit or a CD-based MP3 player (or DVD based if they exist...) For now, I'll stick to the good ol' fashioned 1x "burning" of my Sharp MD-SR60 via optical out on my soundcard. Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Currently nobody knows if Simple Burner works with Hi-MD as well as with NetMD. I heard that sony is planing to release Simple Burner 2.0 within the new Recorder. Rumz Posted April 29, 2004 Report Share Posted April 29, 2004 There is a japanese version of Simple Burner 2.0 so I think it's safe to assume there will be an English version of SB 2.0. But as StrangeByte said, even without SB there is an optiop in Sonic Stage 2.0 to rip from CD to MD (though I'm not sure that it doesn't leave a copy of the hard drive, I'll have to try it). I see no reason why Sonic Stage / Simple Burner 2.0 wouldn't pick up a Nero virtual CD drive, the same technique should work fine. Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Software in general accesses the cd-drive via driver, not directly. So it doesn't know, if the drive visible is a real one or a nero-image. I expect that one to work as before. I expect that one to work as before.Yeah that's right but if sony will the users not able to use SB with virtual cds then they'll build some protection in SB. You just have to check for some know CD/DVD Driver (e.g. Nero / Daemon / CloneCD ...) That's not the case with audio cds, so finding out, if the one visible is real or fake, is nearly impossible... But i don't believe sony would put efforts in this. Your argument is also right but i'm talking about another (additional) protection. A program can detect if you have a cdr inserted instead of a real pressed (original) cd due trying to read ATIP information. (But CloneCD can prevent programs from reading ATIP infos) That's not the case with audio cds, so finding out, if the one visible is real or fake, is nearly impossible... Well in case of Daemon Tools and Nero Image Drive it's pretty easy to detect the simulation. I am thinking minidisco... is there any place that is better? uhh yes there is u can try J&R Music store in NY..or my best bet would on the streets somewhere in NY.... as for minidisco..keep watching their site i assume they'll be the 1st to be selling or advertising different makes of HI-MD..like those collectors disks they got from other makes like TDK...cuz for the time being ppl r only thinking of SONY as the only maker..but in time err 1 will join the band waggon.
