Arthur
hey, i was wondering what this voltage converter is... and if im ordering off of audio cubes do i need to buy one? because the box contents say that it comes with a dock but does the dock come with a charging cable too?
Christopher
If you're ordering off Audiocubes, then you need to tell me what you're buying so I can make sure that we get affiliation credit from it. Seriously - let me build you the link to the product in question beforehand. As for a voltage converter, I think they're necessary although some will contest that they aren't. To be safe, just get this: http://www.voltageconverters.com/cgi-bin/s...tion&key=VC100J I did and it was one of the best "buys" for my unit(s). I rather be safe than sorry, and with a price like that you can't go wrong!
tbdoah
If you give us a little more information, we might be able to help you a little more :rasp:. Why wouldn't a product ship with a power cord? Since you're talking about a product at audiocubes, it is most likely has a Japanese 100v ac supply. North american outlets usually have 115v outlets. AS you can see, you have a 15v difference in voltage. Therfore, the purchase of a step-down voltage converter safely removes the 15v. Some say, as kurisu stated, that a converter isn't necessary. Some have tested the draw and have gotten proper voltage, but I wouldn't trust that. As kurisu stated, the purchase of a converter will settle all qualms or fears you have. The Kashimura brand chargers available from audiocubes works exceptionally well. Good luck!
Arthur
thank you, and the minidisc player that i will be getting is Sony MZ-E620 and i am ordering from canada.
Christopher
Arthur, in all honesty I think you should get the MZ-E720 for ten dollars more. Whilst the E620 features a digital amp, it's not a digital amp that will carry any benefits towards the sound. If you are strapped for $10, I'll pay the difference. I believe strongly enough that the HD digital amp [compared to the regular digital amp] is worth it. Regardless, here's a link to the unit, please go through this link whenever you're ready to buy [no rush ] Here's the E720, that I will pay the difference for:
Arthur
und quality is one of the things im looking for but style is too, so i think i may stick with the first one... no offense to your experience or anything.
Christopher
No offense taken. Just wanted to make sure you knew exactly what you're delving into. Enjoy the unit!
Arthur
ok so if i dont get the converter will that mean more charging time?
Arthur
and what is the difference between the two amps?
Christopher
The converter will not equal more charging time. It merely has to do with charging your unit correctly, to assure that the battery is not harmed and the unit isn't damaged. Arthur
then i guess that kenwood one that yours in your signature sounds and looks nice.... hows the feel of the remote? that little circle button that does the ff/rev and play looks a bit finicky
Christopher
Not finicky at all. Very easy to master [it'll take a few uses, but it's really intuitive] and I definitely think it's one of the best remotes ever made for a MD portable. I'm sure you'd be content with the E620, though..
Arthur
i am such a troubled little child lol..... ok... final question to confirm which md i shall order.. kenwood? or Sony?
Arthur
oh and that was a great review by the way on the kenwood
Christopher
Thanks - I really admired that unit and I hope that others recognize the great strides Kenwood has made with their units lately. Kenwood or Sony? Flip a coin. :rasp: Which unit "looks" better to you?
Arthur
i think with the review i will get the kenwood because i like the fact that the remote is good looking and it has a nice display. i like the unit as well from the things that your review said about it. oh and i was wondering... i had a sony md before... the mzn-10 i think.. and its not a recorder but i was still able to put music onto a disc through it? can i do it with the kenwood as well?
Christopher
No, all of the units we've discussed are player-only units. If you look in that digital amps thread you'll see mention of recording units in the summary and the unit listing towards the bottom [i.e. recorder]. Arthur
cool... it doesnt matter anyways becuz i have a disc loaded with songs and i can just make my frend or my cousin do it for me
Arthur
how does the remote clip to your shirt?
Christopher
Good question. I assume your referring to the Kenwood player? The remote has a clip-on type clip that attaches itself to the remote cord and is definitely as strong as any other remote clip. So, the remote is actually flat and the clip goes on the cord. Remotes from other brands just put the clip on the remote, making it somewhat bulky.

sony_man
jez man calm..... hey kurisu, does that remotes ff/rev/play/stop button really need to be used with your fingernail?
sony_man
sorryforgot to mention which player, on the kenwood?
Christopher
It doesn't necessarily have to be used with your fingernail. It's actually very intuitive for it's small size. I can't really think of any good ways to explain exactly how it operates, it's definitely something you'd have to feel to understand. I liked it, regardless.. p.s. What're you going to get, Arthur? sony_man
hey would anything happen to the battery if you dont use a voltage converter?
Christopher
It could induce harm if you're using a unit that uses a different power scheme than what your country does, i.e. using a Japanese unit in US, etc.
sony_man
alright i guess i can get that... oh and by the way.. im buying off audio cubes.. what is this affiliates page? and the unit that i will be getting is the Sony MZ-E620 plus the black voltage converter. i will also be paying in canadian. i will not be purchasing just yet though because i have to sell my crappy ipod. honestly it is crap. best mp3 player my butt . any ways thanks for the help! BJ
As far as the converter, I don't think you'll need it, but again, it may be a good idea to be safe (after all, HOW much are you paying for your MD player?). My Japanese Panasonic SJ-MR220 works just fine when I plug the 100V adapter in, and the battery charges as it should. But after the first day, the battery indicator starts flashing like all the charge is gone. Then, about two weeks later, the battery finally dies. I don't know if this is just a goofy thing about the unit or if it's related to the voltage difference. I'm getting the proper charge, but not the right power indicator on the machine. Taking no chances, I picked up a universal adapter for my Japanese Sony MZ-N10 and just use that with no problems. The universal cost me $17 at a local discount store. Hope that helps!
