blazer78
according to the australian pulse mag (latest issue) the mznh800 remote comes with a remote featuring am/fm tuner. however it did not state that there was a backlight. i looked at the mznh900 model and it clearly stated that the 900 comes a BACKLIT remote. according to this md site, the MZ-NH800 comes with a backlit remote, is that completely correct? and will the 800's remote come with backlighting in australia? thx for your time. Christopher
Yes, it is 100% backlit. This information was available in our equipment browser, specifically the entry for the unit in question: http://minidisc.org/part_Sony_MZ-NHF800.html You going to get the NHF800? blazer78
yep going to get it, i was going to go for the NH900 but it costs 100 dollars more (according to pulse mag) so i'll just go for the NHF800 because it has most of the NH900's features. the extra's that i would like from the NH900 are the digital amp and the metal body but those aren't really much of a concern for me. =) thanks! aihe
That's interesting about the backlight. The photo in the minidisc.org equipment browser shows a remote that is identical to the NF810 remote (RM-MC37LT) Great pictures on the site everything is so big you can see every detail on all these units. Never having owned or seen a backlit remote, I was wondering how the light on existing remotes for other models are operated, is there an on/off button for it? While I was looking for a site to pre-order the NH800, some sites would mention the backlight and some sites made no mention of it. They all however quoted RM-MC39LT as the model no. for the new remote which hopefully means a light.
blazer78
well backlights turn on when u press a button on the remote, the light goes on for 2-3 seconds then automatically turns off, there is no on/off button for the light =) btw, does anyone know when these new machines will be released in Australia? or are they already out? The_Stamp
actually the light remains on until the display goes back to its passive mode. ie: the volume is changed... the light stays on until the the display goes back to the track time.. so, (ive tried this) if you have a song with a short name, the light will only be on for 2 seconds. if its longer, and forces the remote to scroll the name, the light will remin on until the name is completely viewed/scrolled. Its the little details that makes this cool. 8)

The new 3-line remote that comes with the NH1/etc has a backlight on/off button, so you can turn it on and off in addendum to the activity you describe. Newer-generation Sharp remotes also have the ability of three light modes: no backlight, backlight whilst operating and then turn off, and full backlight all the time. Also, keep an eye out around late July or early August, if not sooner. There have been some threads discussing this already, try searching a little bit.
