Possible workaround for non-exportable uploads?

Now I don't own a HiMD, but I heard about the issue with the not being able to do anything with uploaded audio you've recorded on your deck...

Now it occurred to me that the answer to this might be a little similar to the solution people use sometimes to record streaming webcasts - Total Recorder.

Total Recorder, when installed, sets up a virtual driver that runs the digital audio stream from other programs through it, thus allowing it to be recorded. "So what?", I hear you ask, most machines can record audio that's playing through the stereo mix of their soundcard.

What Total Recorder has going for it is its 'Silent Mode', or 'accelerated recording'. This forces the digital audio stream of a program through the driver at a much higher speed, buffering it and laying it down as a *.wav file you can edit later. This is why you can stream down and record a realplayer audio file much quicker than real time, and without going through a digital>analog>digital conversion. I was wondering if the same might be possible for the audio output of SonicStage 2.0?

Like I said, I don't have the gear so I can't test it myself, but maybe someone else would like to try?

You can get a trial of Total Recorder here:

http://www.pcworld.com/downloads/file_down...18500&fileidx=1

(Limited to 30 secs of audio processing, but you would know if it works...)

Let me know if you have any success - I have friends considering buying HiMD who would be interested...

I have SonicStage 2.0 and downloaded Total Recorder to test this...

I was able to play from SonicStage and record directly to mp3.

The Accelerated Recording mode wasn't picking up the audio signal though, so I had to do it in real time.

This is a good way of converting ATRAC3 to mp3, PCM, WMA9, etc.
