having stupidly lost my MZ N710 (someone in Coventry got very lucky!) my insurance company have said they're sending me an MZ-NH900 as a direct replacement and it should arrive in 10 days, fair enough.

But looking at online stores I can't see the release date for this model anywhere (amazon lists it as March 04 but doesn't have any), it doesn't seem to be included in the first wave of Hi-MDs hitting the UK in August. Does anyone know anything about the worldwide/UK availability of this? Is there a SONY release schedule somewhere?

Perhaps you'll get a NH700 - they're out now. OK not quite as good as the NH900, but not too bad either, and features-wise a more direct replacement for your N710. I haven't seen any schedules, and the Sony stores don't know, but I don't we'll see any NH900 or NH1 before August in the UK...

nh600 is out now

nh700 is out fir july 30th

nh900 is out fri august 14th

nh1 is out august 14th

those dates according to dixons, so presumably the dates to go by (as they are a mainstream outlet)

however - very small quantities (manly in london) have nh700's in stock so nh900+nh1 will be avaialble prior to dixons release date!

yeah think theres a problem with the site??

who knows whether the 2day delivery is valid? just have to wait and see if any one goes thru to checkout?

im sure it would say 'coming soon' - dixons site has 'pre order by the units that arent out yet?

----just checked it out and it says 'put of stock' on the check out bit!---- so hmmm apologies for the false hope there!

I went into dixons in Newbury today and asked them if they knew anything about "High density minidisc units". I was expecting the answer "what are minidiscs" - it being Dixons and all smile.gif .

Anyway.... I was pleasently suprised. They showed me a leaflet (all shiney and everything) of the upcoming minidisc units. The mz-nh1 (Im after this unit myself) is priced £279.99 exactly.

They also had the plasticey 600 model in the shop for sale. I actually held it. Didnt want it though. Too plasticy for my likeing :/

So you might be better off going direct to your dixons shop, as they're cheaper than the online Argos site. Plus there's no postage or anything to pay smile.gif

My local Index shop had them in the catalogue but they were all out of stock, not surprisingly.

Currys told me they'd have them by the end of the month, but the guy I spoke to also showed me an 80 minute blank and told me it was a Hi-MD disc, so... :whatever:

£189 is an amazing price for the NH1. I'm almost tempted to place an order.

  • 3 weeks later...

a bit longer than they said it would be but my NH900 arrived this morning from empiredirect.co.uk... also the Sony shop in Coventry has one for £250. I know because i went looking for more discs, but of course they didn't have any (6 to 8 weeks was their guess)

it seems a bit flimsy, i'm sure it won't be too long before i dent and scratch it (they didn't ask which colour i wanted so i got a silver one), disappointed there's not a proper belt pouch either, like i got with my MZN710 before I lost it, just a crappy felt bag

haven't a clue about sound quality yet because i'm busy charging it up and downloading sonic stage 2.1

but probably won't be bad for £50 excess on an insurance claim as an upgrade on my 710... now if only i can find my 710 as well.... :rasp:
