Jason B
I've had the N707 for a while and am happy with it. I record about 4 hours of live audio a week on the player, but hate the fact that for me to transfer it to my PC for encoding in real player or wav., I have to play it back real time into something like Soundforge. My question is with these new Hi-MD units, will I be able to simply "drag and drop" the recorded data from the unit to my PC? And futhermore, if it was recorded in the Hi-SP format, will I ever be able to convert the file to ra? wav? Let me know if it works cause I'm packaging the old unit up for an ebay auction as we speak
dex Otaku
The short answer is sort-of. The long answer is that no, you can't drag & drop from the discs. Until Sony releases their wave convertor [sometime this fall is what they say] the procedure I would currently recommend is: * download and buy Total Recorder [$12USD] - install and run it * Using Sonicstage to control the Hi-MD plugged in via USB.. * hit record in total recorder * hit play in sonic stage. You can save tracks from your recordings however you like, whether all as one big track or divided is up to you - it's still done in realtime, though the transfer is all digital * When you're done recording all your tracks with TR, -THEN- copy the tracks into SonicStage Hope that made sense. Jason B
Thanks Dex - I think I'll hold off on the new Hi-MD until that wave converter comes out. The procedure you mentioned is pretty much the same thing I do now - plug my player into my sound card, hit play on it and record on soundforge. dex Otaku
It is in realtime for now, yes - but as I said, the transfer is all-digital, so there are no side-effects from D/A and A/D conversion.
reefbeef
Dex, When using the method you've described, does SonicStage freeze the tracks on the HiMD as stated in the NH1 manual on page 113? Or are you simply playing the tracks from the HiMD and not really uploading them to SS, therefore leaving ability to divide, unite tracks on the disc intact? jadeclaw
The tracks on the MD remain unchanged as that is a simple playback.
ruckeliene
A couple of months ago (even before the release of Hi-Md) I downloaded a version of Sonic Stage that supposedly enables WAV conversion, even with the new Hi-Md players. I found the link in the MD forums, but was unfortunately never able to get the program to install properly. Whatever happened to this program? It seemed promising at the time... The_Stamp
sony will be releasing such a program this fall. to convert the minidisc files to *.wav, you must first UPLOAD the file (through SS, which freezes the MD drive), then once its on your computer you may unplug your MD if you wish. then you can use a program (or update from sony to SS) to export the file to a *.wav.
