Rumz
At kurisu's behest I'll take any OT thoughts or comments I might have posted from this thread (http://forums.minidisc.org/viewtopic.php?t...t=5892&start=15) and post them here. So I guess this question may mostly be for Skyther, but if anyone else owns both has thoughts feel free to share. So after owning what, a 20 gig iPod? for some time you now have an iPod Mini as well. Here's my question-- how do you use each? is the Mini like a "best of" collection or used for specific applications? Eventually I'll get a 20 or 40 gig iPod and I have some ideas on how I'd like to use it, but I'm just curious how you spread your music between the 2. I guess another question I have is what software do you use to fill your iPods up with music? Currently I use iTunes and I'm wondering if I should just use another prog for the second iPod or what. This is assuming the karma 2 doesn't come out and hijack my interest soon... I could go for gapless, esp. if I intend to use the larger capacity for orchestral film scores. Rumz
Personal preference, maybe. I'm a long time MD user and recent iPod user. Ever used or given the iPod a fair listen? I guess the idea of having a "jukebox" or something to have portable access to several full albums at once appeals to me. The iPod sounds damn good, though MD has it's place for me. skyther
It's more of a 'best of' music collection sorta thing... a really big collection, since it'll store up to around 450 average sized ~270ish kbps VBR Nero LC-AAC files. Big pod stores ALAC and full albums. It's actually difficult to manage the use of both, more often than not I'm using the mini due to it's smaller size, and never at any point in time have I required even half the amount of music it stores for any single outing. I suppose it'll be useful at transporting my entire music archive when I'm off to Malaysia for the holidays, but while a 20GB has it's use, it's not really that useful any longer. TBH I wonder why people complain about space in the mini. I'm using uber high bitrate stuff and I've got more space than I'll ever need. mAjEsTiC
heh...mm...the mini is nice coz it's small...that and it's got a nice aluminium shell as opposed to that white plastic on the normal iPods...
Leland
One of the reasons I got the Sony NW-HD1 was to have the size of the Mini with a 20 gig capacity and longer battery life. Tradeoff is SS tie in as we all know and the ipods have a better navigation system. Still, I am very pleased with it. It has replaced MD for me except for recording and in the car. I also keep an old MD player on my dresser driving a couple of old PC speakers for ambient music to fall asleep to or some music while getting ready for work. In that environment, just popping in an MD is fine. I would find the 4-5 gig capacity players too limiting as I would always be thinking of another album I "might" want to bring along. It is great to just grab the device when I have a trip and not have to think about which MD's to take. Plus, at 18-20 grams per MD, I was carrying more weight in MD's around than the player itself by factors.
