kickingVegas
First off a caveat: my criticisms of Sony here is not to bash but to illustrate yet another way how Sony could make MD a more compelling product. I own both a Sony digital camera and a Sony NetMD player. In looking at HiMD, I wish I could offload pictures and video off the digital camera to a HiMD device, with no need for a PC in between. Not holding my breath on this one ...
Hyena
Ask and you shall recieve. Booyah. Full story here: http://www.akibalive.com/archives/000565.html (Sadly, I believe it only works with the NH1 or NH3D)
kickingVegas
Ugh. This product so nails down why Sony doesn't get designing digital products. Why should you buy a $77 custom device that only connects to two HiMD products? They should be thinking about network effects - if Sony designed all their digital devices to be able to exchange data sensibly with other, then it becomes more compelling to keep getting their products; in other words if they had a sensible product roadmap I would buy more of their stuff not less. Here it looks like Sony is making me buy a one-shot device that I will likely have to throw away when the next latest and greatest gadget comes out - Who wants to do that? Hyena
Why should you buy a $77 custom device that only connects to two HiMD products??I don't know, why should you? You're the one that wants to transfer files from your digital camera to a HiMD device. Something tells me that's shouldn't be a big selling point for HiMD. While I'm really trying to see your point here, I honestly don't see why you're complaining. Adding connectivity between Sony devices is wishful thinking, not really something worthwhile to implement. How many Sony devices could make good, real world use of that connectivity? Maybe you should've bought an "Apple" digital camera and transferred files from that to an iPod, or maybe an HP camera and.... wait, none of them have that capability at all, do they? Hyena
 Bastard! I stand corrected. (I figured Apple/Belkin would think of such a device, but I was too lazy to search for it. ) Well, it still requires you to purchase a "custom device" to quote kickingVegas, and it's more expensive. :whatever: (Personally though, I'd go with it more than Sony's alternative. )
Qwakrz
Technically, I dont see why it would only work with the NH1 / NH3D. The only reason I can think of is the battery in the other Hi-MD's might have poblems with recording or the unit might be powered by the Hi-MD. Looking at the picture there looks to be a USB type A connector on the back so you use the USB cable to plug into the unit. Pop along to your local sony center and get them to go "You WHAT!!!!!" or "erm....ah......never heard of it mate"
Christopher
If someone can make an adapter to convert the proprietary USB connection that connects to the NH1/NH3D to the normal one that the NH900 + co. uses, I'm sure they'd make a good bit of money. AMPlitudeHD
i dunno, i guess it cant be so bad a deal considering the belkin for the ipod is about twice the price
skmetal07
^@ moltar. or u can use the cable that came with the 900 & co. and find a adapter (a to mini b?)for that to go to the downloader thing (probably would be a lot easier to find)

It's the same one used by the N10, and it is not standard at all. Only Sony makes it, and there are no adapters.
mutant1345
seems kind of pointless to have a cable thats not common at all as to the other models, it kind of like sony to do that though, make an origonal of something that needs not to be changed i.e. mp3 to atrac3 isnt needed but they employ it does the cable do anything significant or is it just different? Christopher
It's just different, it doesn't do anything significant except annoy people.
