fretwork
hi Is it possible to record a regular md (not himd) in a hi-md player which can still be read on the regular minidisc player? I want to find some way around this copyright issue, and some of my friends have the old software for regular mds thanks,
mutant1345
hello.... i suggest you try searching the faqs and whatnot before asking questions like these anyways....yes this is entirely possible just format the old discs as a netmd disc and vuala record on it as netmd in either sp lp2 or lp4 the hi md models are backwards compatible with the old mds

A440
Fretwork, what software are you talking about?
fretwork
I've got sonic stage 2.1, while some of my freiends are using whatever came with the old mds
Christopher
Do them a favor and have them upgrade to Sonicstage 2.1 as well! It works for NetMD units, too.
fretwork
but if I make them upgrade, then the same copyright issue will come up as I'm having with hi-mds. I am hoping to get the old program today, and then buy a regular minidisc so I can start recording for school and transfer to my computer
jadeclaw
Fret, first, USB upload of standard MD is NOT possible. Regardless of the SonicStage/OpenMG - Version. Regardless of the recorder used. The only way to get standard-MDs back into the PC is via Soundcard. Second, Hi-MD-Recorders can produce fully compatible standard MDs. Full quality SP is only possible through realtime recording through Line-In/Optical. SonicStage cannot produce real SP.
Qwakrz
AFAIK the only difference between OMG / SS 1.5 and the current versions is that the newer version of SS allows unlimited checkout's. You will still not be able to "check in" tracks not recorded by the MD & PC that made the original tracks. BTW, check in on NetMD's only checks the file is the same as the one on the PC and increments the check out counter while it removes the track from the MD, it does NOT copy the track back to the PC. Christopher
SS doesn't allow unlimited checkouts, it's the newer version of OpenMG that does so. SS2 = facade. The newest package of Sonicstage 2 comes with a better encoding codec, I believe..compared to 1.5. I don't have firm tests on this, but it seems to be a somewhat general consensus.
