  1. Hi again Bob =) I agree the EH1 is sweet too especially with it being HiMD...but you know gadget collectors...I think I ment to say EH1 instead of E10 up there... anyway...I'm looking at an add for one of these but I wanted to ask around here before I botherd the guy with a call. he's asking for $75 and says it's barly used cause he turned into a pod person. poor guy ;^)
  2. thanks bluecrab, really happy with my unit and the format overall, my only gripe is probably the same as anyones here and that's that it's a dead format. the only reason I can see for that is it lets us users create too perfect of copies of our music too easily. even the DRM is wiped out with an analogue copy of any CD...great for me, bad for anyone that owns the copyright of the music. funny cause I never got into the whole napster craze and I still havent gotten into taking tons of music free off the net. like from bit torrent or newsgroups. anyway, thanks for your answers, helps alot. I'm shure I'm gonna stick with it and buy more gear and discs.
  3. Hi...so I'm reading the battery is built in ? does this mean it can't be changed by the owner ? if I can do it with a screwdriver I'm ok with it. I ask because I'm shopping around for one. they are pritty swanky looking units. my other alternative is to look for the EH1 which is also play only but will do HiMD. I was also reading it requires a special 'phone jack or something ? I was reading it's got a special adaptor ? something easily lost or broken ? like I said I'm shopping around for one of these so any warnings apriciated. they're really sexy looking. thanks for any advice
  4. Hi All...so I have a 74 min. disk I recorded some MP3's on via analogue from my comp (which is all I can to at the moment) the disk was bought used and erased. recorded in SP mode. I was listening to the songs as they recorded, they played out fine. I believe they played fine too for the first few playbacks at work...then sections of songs droped out, silence for random ammounts of time. when it happend I checked my 'phones to see if they were connected right and for broken cable...all fine there. ya think this disk is past it's sell by date or something ? the plastic shell of the disk is slightly scratched/hazy...but it came to me that way. I work in a metal shop with alot of abrasive dust in he air, but I keep the discs in a case in my toolbox when the're not in the player. I also taped up the ports I don't use at work (mic, mic power, dc in) my unit is a Sony MZ NHF800. thanks for your thoughts.
  5. I just orderd a set off ebay for about $70 after shipping...hope to have them by the weekend. I'll put my 2 cents in when I get 'em. I must say it's a leap of faith spending this much on such tiny 'phones. been using $25 JVC units lately... well now ! wow, got the super fi 3's in my ears now. dang ! these are louder and cleaner on 20 than the JVC's on 30 ! dead silent between tracks. very impressive sounding 'phones for shure err...I mean U.E. heh heh.... there's a litrtle wire in the phone cord coming out so you can bend the cord to fit your head as they come out if the driver units. I'm using them upside down cause I don't like the idea of them over my ears,I already have glasses going there. with the JVC's, I used 3 flange sleves for he Sen. phones cause they seal well and deep. with just one flange bulbs these really transfer good bass...so far, only tried 3-4 songs and haven't played with the EQ yet. these are soo much more efficient you could easily tweek the EQ for your preference...heh...dang. sweet 'phones. the lingth of the cord will be good for me cause I like to stick the MD in my shirt pocket. the cord will go round my back and under my arm fine. I'm just listening to random mp3's I've recorded to MD via analogue from the computer, so god knows what it'll sound like with a nicely recorded CD.
  6. Hey All...I'm wondering if there is a point to using a separate amp if your listening to canalphones. the drivers are so small it seems like they wouldn't need the extra power...? maybe the type of canalphone would determine the usefulness of an add on amp ? thanks for your thoughts
  7. Hi Bob, thanks for the welcome =) looked up the EH1 and yes, I agree, looks slick and thin. gotta start hunting one on ebay.
  8. Hi all... new adopter here I picked up a used MD unit at a used record store because I realised, it's the only reasonably modern way to get music off my Win NT workstation, via analogue recording. my CD drive is dead, the zip drive is dead, no usb etc....I know I ought to get a new PC but... anyway, I'm really diging the format alot. I have some random questions regarding HiMD. but I spose some could be relavent to MD in general. I'm curious, about how long the avarage MD player lasts ? can a disk be affected by magnetic fields ? I'm a welder and I've been using my NHF 800 in the metalshop where I work and no issues so far. I put masking tape over the various ports except the headphone jack (I haven't been usung the remote) to protect it from dust, but a welding machine generates a magnetic field and steel objects around it will become magnetised somewhat. I picked up a headphone amp in an altoid tin, it works but since I use JVC canalphones (they work so well in a metal shop as ear plugs) I don't seem to hear alot of difference with the tiny drivers in them. I'm waiting on a set of Ultimat Ears super fi 3 and some Shure E4c's too, they're in the mail now. I'm tempted to buy a slim HiMD player only unit for work, any feedback on which would be the most durable, smallist, thinist unit ? an all metal case would be best I think. I'm interested in getting an RH1 but that would stay away from work. I'm also wondering if there's much difference in the discs, brands I mean. so far I have some random used discs from that same used record store plus 3 new blue 1 gig discs. they are Sony, Victor, TDK and maybe a Fugi or two. any brand I should stay away from ? my friends at work are pod people and dang, I just think it's really cool I could record off their unit but they can't take from mine...well, I'd love to swap files with them like kids do with game saves on their game boys (damn the DRM) anyway...thanks for all the work on this site and board. it's been a very helpful refrence
