That's something, will presume I'll be able to test the playback too?
-
Just another quick question then, although it may not charge the NH-1, can I at least power the unit via this USB cable adaptor so I can test it and make sure it works before shelling out on a docking station?
-
This is the one I got, which I hope is the right one! Though by the looks of things I'm going to need the cradle to charge the unit anyway
-
I've used the batteries from the E-909 and N-710 in each other so they are interchangable - it seems from the picture on the NH1 spec page here that it's battery is slightly wider than the gumsticks I have
-
Cheers for the reply Bobt, found a cable on Ebay for just under £10 which I might go for. I've got a thread on this already but I'll just ask quickly here - would that USB cable also charge the unit, and could I use one of my exsisting 'gumstick' batteries (as used in my E-909 and N-710) in the NH1?
-
I should be getting a bargain NH-1 soon (Just over £20 inc. del off Fleabay!) but it doesn't come with it's charging dock. I understand it has a proprietary connector so can't use a standard Mini-USB lead with it, but have seen a USB cable also on Ebay for just under a tenner (shipping from the Far East). Question is, can I charge the NH-1 from this USB cable or do I need to invest in a mains adaptor? Also, I believe this takes a gumstick battery, would I be able to charge and use the batteries that are currently used in my E-909 and N710 in the NH-1, or are they a different size/shape or voltage? I also suspect I can't use my existing mains chargers with the NH-1 as it needs a higher voltage charger?

Just bought an NH1 off Ebay which comes without the dock, and as I understand it has a proprietary USB connector so am looking for the docking station or at least a USB cable that will work with the unit. I'm hoping it works though, as the seller was selling is as 'spares or repairs' due to the lack of the dock, hopefully it just needs a charge! If it works I'll have a bargain as it only cost me a few pennies over £20 including delivery! Found the dock and a USB lead, but now need a charger! If anyone has any spare, or could tell me at least the part number of it so I can search for one I'd be most grateful! I would of course be willing to pay for the charger.

I've got a few prerecorded MDs, you can get some off Ebay - on the Ebay UK site there's usually a hundred or two for sale at any one time. I've got Adiemus, Yanni - A Tribute, Massive Attack - Mezzanine, Yo Yo Ma Ma (or something like that!) and a couple more I think.
-
Ah, I see! Don't think I read your post properly, sorry don't think I can help further, good luck finding a solution!
-
Do you have the model number of it at all? It should just work with a standard Mini-USB cable, that's what I've been using my MZ-710 and NH700 with! You'd need to download SonicStage though, just google 'SonicStage download' and it should be one of the top links

After someone on another forum I frequent saying they secretly liked the new Take That track, I thought it would be interesting to hear everyone's musical 'guilty pleasures', those tracks/artists/genres that you like but are a bit emabrrassed about, or wouldn't dare tell your mates about! For me, it's 1980s power ballads, despite their now cheesy reputation, big hair and big shoulderpads I love them!
-
Great idea Avrin, though sadly I haven't got an RH1 - don't suppose you'll sell me one of yours? Though I will bear your suggestion in mind if I do get an RH1, I'm keeping my eyes open on Ebay!
-
Didn't realise that most of those entries were unchanged since they were first entered - some I looked at and thought they had but not all! I think a few people have lifted the text off the R50 write up and stuck it in Ebay auctions, I've seen a couple of R50 listings that claim it's the best MD unit made ever! It's all relative really, one person's jewel is another persons rubbish - though here it would be the RH1 as it's the latest - and therefore best - featured MD made to date.... well, at all now really as it's probably the last model to be produced!
-
I think that service costs money, though I could get a Sony Ericsson phone that has TrackID which connects to the Gracenote database via GPRS/3G to ID a song in a similar way. Looks like I'm out of look then otherwise, never mind!
-
Hope this isn't too much of a 'noob'-ish question, but looking in the equipment section of the site it states that the MZ-R50 is about the best MD unit technologically even though it's now a decade old - would you say that is correct? If not, which one would you say is the best of the bunch and why? Theoretically it should be the RH1 as it's the last model made and the pinnacle of MD evolution perhaps?

I'll list everything I've got in all genres, also found some drun 'n' bass type stuff too, here we go (deep breath! ) I'm no expert at music currently and I admit am going on what these disks are labelled as, though I've checked the sound quality and they are all good and at SP unless otherwise stated: Breakbeat Era - Ultraobscene A1 Sound Carrier Audio Blueprint - Point of Arrival Aim - Cold Water Music Wayz of the Dragon (Full Cycle) Armageddon (D 'n' Global Takeover - M. Finn & Aphrodite Moving Shadow 99.1 & 99.2 The Gorillaz DJ Teebee - Blacksciencelabs Spooks - S.I.O.S.O.S. Vol. 1 Moloko - I Am Not a Doctor Propellorheads - Decks & Drums & R+R (Includes that Bond theme they did) Nu Yorican Soul Queens Of The Stone Age (Unsure which album though) De La Soul - Art Official Intelligence: Mosaic Thump (I think lol!) Lost Prophets - Fake Sound of Progress Roots Manuva - Run Come Save Me Papa Roach - Infest/Creed - Human Clay (LP2) DJ Rectangle - Behind Bars DJ Craze - Nexxsound Contagious Dub - Total Science Loxy & Ink - Quasimodo EP DJ Marky & DJ Patife - Brasil EP Access Denied - Bullshit & Polit (Hope I can use that word - it is in the title! Apologies if I can't) Swoosh - Back to Basics Rass Kass - Soul on Ice Ray Keith - Vingage Dread 2000 Offspring - Smash/Americana (LP2) 21st Century Drum 'n' Bass - Decoder disk 1 21st Century Drum 'n' Bass - Decoder disk 2 Bad Company - Inside The Machine Pete Roch - Mecca and the Soul Brother So Solid Crew - They Don't Know Mark B & Blade - The Unknown Westwood (DJ) - Hiphop songs (Radio 1 DJ, think it's a mix) LP4 The Roots - Illadelph Halflife 50Cent - (Not sure what album) Linkin Park - 2 albums on 2 separate MDs, both SP. Vanessa Mae - Storm Edit: Guru - Jazzmatazz ('A fusion of rap/R n B and jazz' according to the first track!) I think that's it for now! Might be more stuff to come. Sorry they're not in any particular order. Some of the discs are missing their sleeve case, and I suspect what's written on some of the sleeves that are there don't correspond with what's on the discs - the titles above come from labels on the discs themselves and I believe are fairly accurate.
-
I've got a few mixed rap/hiphop/ R & B MDs to trade for something else if anyone's interested. They're mostly SP and a couple of LP2 discs, all standard MD and not Hi-MD. Got about 30 or so so far, might be more soon. If interested I'll get a bit more info on artists up, though some I'm not sure who they are I'm afraid! Post here/PM me if you have something to trade. Looking for more rock type music, or chilled/relaxed stuff, like Zero 7, even easy listening like Eva Cassidy/Katie Melua etc., looking to experiment a bit with classic music too, not really gotten into that in the past but might give it a try!
-
Oops, I think I've threadjacked my own thread! Thanks for that info on Shadowfax, I knew about him being the horse Gandalf rode in LOTR, sound like an interesting band, I'll have to look out for stuff by them! Anyways, back on subject, I think if this mate starts making comments about my MD player/recorder, I'll just tell him to get stuffed, and I like using it no matter if it's an obsolete format or not, and that's all that matters!
-
Just recieved a nice mixed batch of 80 Minidiscs which have various types of music on - problem is some of them don't have labels on/disc info and I can't identify the artist, album or both on some discs. When I connect my MD player to the PC and SonicStage, I can't get it to get the information on the artists etc. on that disc. There's no option. Also of course it won't let me transfer the music to my PC as it came from another PC and the damned copy protection won't let me do it So, is there a way of finding out the artist etc. via SonicStage/Gracenote, or is the required information for connecting to that (or any) particular internet database not stored on a disc typically? Hope you know what I'm talking about here!

btw guitarfxr, forgot to ask, who are Shadowfax, I'm ashamed to admit I've never heard of them! What genre are they? Currently enjoying working my way through all these minidiscs I've just got, found a few excellent tracks/albums! I have to admit to being a bit of a 'sampler' at times, though if I use my MD more I should become more of a 'listener', the MD might just get me into music more seriously, I'm turning into a bit of an audiophile I think in my old age!
-
Well put theblueraja, I do enjoy the sound quality of Minidiscs (always been a bit dissapointed with the iPod's sound quality, my 30Gb Video could be going on Ebay soon!), though I've found an MP3 player with very good sound quality too (the Meizu Miniplayer - 4Gb) but like the Minidisc too, I think I kinda like having all these little multicoloured disks too! I've just bought 80 assorted MDs off Ebay, going to have fun going through them and exploring the music on them, try to expand my musical horizons - and if there are any I don't like, I'll either blank them, or noticed there's a MD swap section here so might bung some on there too!
-
Actually, it's the chaperone with the 10ft cattle prod I'm more worried about! Cheers for the feedback so far
-
Very true Guitarfxr! I am enjoying the MD at the mo, preferring it over my Meizu MP3 player currently and enjoying the sound quality! I'll just tell my mate tough titties I like MD players
-
i showed a mate of mine my newly acquired NH-700, who promptly took the piss stating it was obsolete! So, apart from it's recording capabilities what else can i use in md's defence? I mentioned sound quality and his retort was uncompressed ogg or flac files are just as good. Any more ammo i can use against him lol?

I've been keeping an eye on Ebay for remotes, though they're a little hard to come by on Ebay, but I'll keep an eye out for that particular one to ensure it works with the MDs I have Cheers for the advice
