LF: Minidisc accessories especially optical cable
Sammyboy replied to Sammyboy's topic in Classifieds
Cheers, I'll have a look in my local electrical stores and see what they've got! Was wondering if anyone had any cheap spare ones here - also anyone got any spare headphone remote units, preferably the ones with the LCD in it at all? -
I've just bought a few minidisc units off ebay, but most are missing their accessories, so am after any spare bits you may have, especially an optical cable as I don't have one of them. I am on ebay and have nearly 900 feedback and been trading on other forums and have a good reputation so I won't rip anyone off! I also have a confirmed paypal account or can pay via bank transfer.

Need any spare minidiscs? Just found someone selling 130 used minidiscs which should keep you going for a while! Edit: or expand your music collection with 158 discs most of which have music on!

Some fascinating stories here! Think I'm definately a very late comer to the MD party, I just hope the format is supported for a bit longer - though I suspect I'm being overly optimistic for any more new MD systems to be released!
-
I'll have to get hold of a copy of simpleburner - I think I saw a link on here somewhere! Not sure if I have a burning programme apart from the Windows default one - is Nero a freeware programme or one you have to pay for? Thing is these audiobooks are between 8 hours and I think a couple are over a day's total runtime! Though that shouldn't be too many sections even if they are 150-160 mins each. Not had much experience with CD-burning but will have an experiement later (and probably be asking more silly questions lol!)

Cheers, I'll keep an eye out for that 'resume' menu. I'll have an experiment with the MD units once I've got the audiobooks onto a disk and see what I can do btw which two MiniDisc players remember your position in a track Guitarfxr?

Just read through the manual on my MZ-NH700, and it appears I can't do what I'm intending to do - the 'T-Mark' it seems is for splitting up a recording into different tracks and won't 'bookmark' my place in a large MP3 file. The bookmark function I believe is also only for playing specific tracks rather than your position in one track. Is there a way of doing this, or at least be able to get to a specific part of a track (i.e. where I've gotten to in the audiobook)?

I hope there's not already a topic on this somewhere (Looked but couldn't find one). Just wondering when and why you got into MiniDisc - I'm a 'late bloomer' and just getting into it now despite having MP3 players and and iPod all of which supposedly made the MD 'Obselete'. What got me into it was oddly enough an article called Redundant Gadgets which included the Minidisc player. This article was originally posted on another forum, and reading the posts from people there disagreeing with the article and mentioning how MD was often of a higher audio quality than many MP3 players (despite the slightly restricting SS software) and still liked them. It got me thinking, I then bought one (well, four due to overzelous Ebay bidding!) and I'm starting my MD journey from here! So, what's your story, where and when did you get into MiniDisc?
-
Oops, just found the topic with all the answers here!
-
I will have fun! Must stop bidding though before I bankrupt myself lol. I bet it is a bit frustrating, as I think only people in the UK and US can confirm their paypal accounts/addresses, and some people will only deal with Ebayers with confirmed accounts. Though some of the players/recorders I've bought will probably need some accessories and I don't think all of them come with everything, though they should all be working. Think I need to do some selling on Ebay - got a load of mobile phones that need to go!
-
Just gone a bit mad with my bidding on Ebay, now going to have 4 Minidisc players! Got an MZ-R500 coming, an MZ-E309 and E310 on the way, as well as a load of actual disks!

I know there are 'bookmarking' options with MD players, but do they just 'bookmark' particular favourite tracks or does it also remember where you are in a particular track? What I mean is these audiobooks I have are just one big MP3, 200-300Mb in size, and having to try to get to where I am in the audiobook when I resume listening to it will become harder and harder the further I am into the book. Does the 'bookmark' fuction also work in such a way as to remember where I am in a particular audiobook, i.e. so I can just insert a MD with that audiobook on and be able to find where I left off last time I was listening to that book? I hope this makes sense!

Thanks for the welcome/advice Sparky and Bobt! Glad that conversion won't degrade the quality (but I guess that depends on what ATRAC bitrate I use). I seem to be collecting MDs pretty quickly already - also got a MZ-E909 and MZ-R500 on the way too!
-
I've had a little search about and read a few topics and not found an answer to this - I have a load of MP3 files that I've gotten from various sources (but have no DRM on them). I was wondering if I can copy the MP3s over in their current format to my MZ-NH700 MD unit or do they have to be converted by SonicStage to ATRAC format? I can't try it just yet as still waiting for the player to arrive (Damn UK postal strikes! ) just asking in advance! I'm guessing as well if I turn the DRM off I could in theory put the music on another computer or device if I wanted to as well? Cheers!

I'd check out good ol' FleaBay if you don't mind secondhand discs, I've notice people selling job lots of MDs on there quite cheaply. Some even still have music on them, and there are also quite a few new sealed packs out there.

It might be worth keeping an eye on Ebay for NH700s, I've just bought one off there for £22.50 including postage, a newly-listed 'buy it now' auction! Keep an eye on newly-listed items with low BIN prices (probably listed by someone not realising that some MDs still have quite a bit of value) as well as ones ending soon as you may bag a bargain!
