  1. Also here's the sonicstage I used. http://sonicstage.update.sony.net/v4301/US/SonicStageInstaller.exe
  2. I googled around and found this! this guy managed to get the NetMD Minidisc Drivers running natively in Windows 7 (x64)! I think this should be stickied! http://archivision-director.blogspot.com/2011/01/download-here-your-new-netmd-usb.html I use these Drivers, and here's proof of them working
  3. I've been through a few plain batteries already but I was wondering if I could put alkaline rechargables such as pure energy brand in my unit and use the built-in charge function without damaging my unit? On a side question, On this page, it states it's compatible with NiCd type batteries, but on the back of my unit it has a Recycle NiMH sticker on it...So is the unit compatible with either standard to charge?
  4. It was among some random crap in a bag at value village, it was marked at $25, came with 2 80minute MDs! It works Perfectly and only has few minor wear and tears. Heres a pic of it! (next to my R500) Left: R500, Right: N510 And I also got a Xitel PCLink box without cables For $4, but I had em lying around.
  5. I was wondering if theres a way to get an extra bit of output from my MZ-R500 via Service mode? I want to play back louder, instead of recording a clippy mess to get extra output... I would also like a bit more info on the service menus and such for the DSP...
  6. I'm interested in Now 43, it seems a bit more expendable then Springsteen... Now then, I'm gonna go check with my local postal authority how much stamps to send stuff to Pennsylvania would be. Edit: It Costs $7.20 CDN to send a minidisc to you, and about $4 US to send yours to me
  7. I would like to trade a blank (or written) 74 or 80 minute MD's for any Premastered MD, it Doesn't matter how good or bad the music on it is. I have 80's of these and 74's of these Since I am a DJ I could mix a MD just for you, or leave it blank I live in Canada.
  8. According to the service manual, all revisions of this Walkman after 1.0 have some settings hard wired in the macros... everything seems fine, its just that I cant do the CD type calibration and the only thing I lack is probably a laser power meter and the test disc Otherwise the Walkman seems to have re-calibrated its MO Disc/Electrical settings by itself... However I'd still like to obtain a CD type disc to fully recalibrate this unit.
  9. Hey! It works! I followed the instructions a bit closer, but this time I decided to press the volume buttons on 0 24 and I got it to display FF, and now it works! I think that this should be mentioned in this fix that was posted on http://www.minidisc.org/sony_mzr_reset.html "My way(It's my way or the highway!) Go to 0 24 You will see Assy and some value after it. So now : 0 24 (Assy) xx->FF Press Pause. Take out the power. Put it back in."
  10. Well I was looking into my walkman's service menu to do the ATRAC Type R hack along with the R900 Features hack while learning how it works by looking in the service manual, but I messed up some things so I panicked and then decided to do a 021 Reset NV... Now it just sits at the service menu blink, according to the manual I need to do the electrical adjustments, but all I have is MO type MD's and no CD type MDs... so I cant do all of the adjustments... Can anyone help me? I've tried http://www.minidisc.org/sony_mzr_reset.html but I cant just do a pull battery, it goes back to the blinking between a full lit screen and the version numbers... Would anyone be a kind soul and be able to mail me a Premastered MD so I can finish my adjustments and I could send it back? - Walkdude.
  11. I bought this baby after hearing my buddies, it was nice and loud.... So I bought the NA version (he had a japanese one) and I was dissapointed... the exact same MP3 and everything... Is there a service menu or a BIOS File I can mod to get the nice loud sound? (Yes, I Checked AVLS, its off) Plz! $80 isnt bad.... and my CD walkman goes louder! I NEED TUNES!!!
  12. On my MZ-NF520D or My MZ-R500, Can I turn Kanji ON Im practicing japanese, so I need something to practice on Please & Thankyou -WalkDude
  13. I will never lay my hands on an iPod. Only CD's, DVD's, MD's, no half-arsed MP3s, just full 320kbps. 50ny 4 3V3R.
  14. /agrees. I think BD-A Players will be out soon (much like the ill-fated portable DVD-audio player). But still, the polarization element contained in all current DVD formats which is not being used for the physical encoding of the information on the disc. So maybe they could use that to store more info.
  15. I had an Idea, where a machine's laser would write the disc, and the other laser would read it at the same time, to check for clicks or damage, or have both lasers burn data or read data. Good Idea Or Bad?
  16. S-st-still EXISTS?!!? YOU HAVE JUST MADE MY DAY!!! Im getting a job as a janitor soon, so I could sell my R500 for about $50, and the rest I could work off, $12/hr is not bad to push a broom... My dad would probably snag it off of me Good memories for him, New ones for me Turn my WM-4 into a WM-4-MZ-NF520D Plug my MD into the tapedeck
  17. I "Spinal Tapped" an old analog Tabletop CD player. I recorded directly from its D/A converter, dumped the white noise to an MD as analog. I Discovered that ATRAC doesnt affect the sound, when listened to through a regular MD machine, its just white noise, just like recorded, but when hooked up to the D part of the converter to the line out on the MD, and much to my amazement, the Tabletop was idle, but Still read out the time from the MD display and the audio was fine, through the headphones it was noise, but once sent through the D/A it was converted back to audio... which means that the D/A turned the compressed binary noise back into CD quality audio... Ive tried recording it onto the PC, compressing it to a 64kbps MP3 and sending it back, I still have CD quality sound coming out of the CD player, but the tracking is off a bit according to the display on it. In other words, I took an 80 minute CD, recorded it as analog binary noise. Compressed it to a fraction of the actual rate, and returned it as Digital binary noise, recorded as Digital ATRAC, which was interpreted by the CD player as Digital noise, which was turned into analog sound. Weird how this trick still works, I did it back in the day with a tapedeck and a CD player, but it got slightly corrupt, essentially I turned my cheap CC into a DAT tape with PCM noise on it. Ill go pick up another old deck and do this on video for all you to see, Its not quite usefull, but its fun to mess with, Also, it works with microphones, if the noise is played through a loud enough system the D/A will pick it up and will play it with some fragmentation. Ive been trying sending CD noise through FM and seeing if the D/A would be able to transmit CD quality audio over the air and replaying on a radio, it seems to work quite well, but I was using 2 different converter types so the sound always dropped out. CD over FM, PCM on MD, and MPEG-PCM on MD. It seems CD over FM is a viable technology and may be useful to Radio stations, Digital audio over an analog source

    U-MD?

I recently was digging around in my wire-drawer and found a UMD and an old CD-R, but I discovered that the UMD looks pretty close to a Prerecorded MD, but a Tad smaller. It has the same silver peice a MD has, but no sliding disc protector and a fairly flimsy case. Huge Pic
  19. my dad told me about these, and their legendary headphones... I would trade my MZ-R500 in exchange... -WD
  20. I like interesting technology, and sony, and music. MiniDiscs are like my favorite format, CD-RW. and since I dislike carrying around a 12cm CD player in my pocket I looked for something smaller. Which is why I chose MD over MP3
  21. Can MD-D's have audio on them just like a CD-RW Made for data can be used in a CD player with no consiquences (Besides price)?
  22. I like prerec'd MD's sounds just like CD, but since they are scarce I just buy the CD's and convert them. I never thought of going on stage6, Its already 128-256kbps MP3s so it would work pretty well. Still, I Might as well spend the 1000 Yen and buy the CD's and just D-D convert them myself... Screw iTunes! Buy CD's!
  23. I am from the iPod generation... Ipod Pros: Shiny... Lots of music... Shiny... CONS: Cant record tunes from an analog source, Like your freinds MD or CD player... Hard drive breaks after being dropped less than 1 ft. They get scratched easy. Does it look like you can download music off of another Ipod? Minidisc Pros: Recordability from an analog source, Like your freinds MD or CD player... Durable! All metal design! Can be buffed! Tradable Discs! You can trade em around, If you want to reuse it you can without having to ask for your's back. Editing on the go! Erase and set track markers! Cheap! (Discs cost about a dollar at least) Cons: Didnt really have a cult following like MP3-Players Some machines are rare. Its hard to find Prerecorded MD's (In North America) Hey GuitarFxr... I Need a favor... Could you look for *new* PreRecorded MD's from the following artists? Im a fan of japanese music, and since MD is universal (Like music CD's) I could buy some from japan and play them here up in canada. Crystal Kay Dir en grey HIGH and MIGHTY COLOR Morning Musume Orange Range Puffy (AKA Puffy Ami Yumi) Round Table (Feat. Nino) See-Saw Younha
  24. Hey anybody want a new benz? I am 15 years old... I can hear from 1HZ up to about 50000khz in range, I never set my headphones above 7, and I clean my ears regularly. WHICH IS WHY I HATE BADLY MADE MP3S!!! I could probably tell the difference right off the bat Where do I go to listen? I also need a set of MDR-V500DJ's, an occiloscope, a frequency analyzer and some judas priest and some Orange Range, and my NetMD.
  25. I also agree MD sounds better. I think both would be a good investment as I listen to the radio and usually use USB as a connector and tend to use Disc's for both music or data, like a regular CD. Also, I like the fact that the MD-R500 can be hacked as I like tinkering with secret menus, and since its Realtime I can dump audio off of machines with RCA outputs (I do this with a Sony RK-G129 Y-Cable), which means I can record sounds off of Dance Dance Revolution, or use a patch cable to record another source such as my freinds iPod when I have no PC around.
