    Optical Recording

huh. i just sold myps3:( i'm daving for a macpro which does have optical too, but i know that other devices in my house have optical, so i'll give them a try! i'm so glad track marks work! that was my real hope. i was hoping to use optical for albums that don't have distinguishable breaks between tracks. i'll try this out on other devices and report back,
  2. so in all my 12 years of being a minidisc owner, i've never tried optical recording until now. i've checked my owner's manual and there is no mention of a special way to set it up. so i just plugged it in and gave it a whirl. i had a dvd player with optical out playing a cd and i have a sharp md-ms702 with optical in swithed on synchro. i pressed play on the dvd player and the md recorder started up once it picked up the sound, as normal. i was curious to see what was different than a line-in. once the 1st track finished it, stopped recording! meaning is stopped recording as soon as the 2nd track started playing. this was very peculiar. i thought there might be a bad connection and i tried again and i just recorded the 1st track only again. i tried a different cd and had the same result. i tried the normal line-in and that worked out just fine. so i knew it was not the whole unit but just the optical function. then i tried optical recording with my sony mz-r70. the same symptoms happened exactly the same way and i tried all the same things. is there a step i'm missing here? i can't imagine that both optical ports are acting up the exact same way. is it an issue with the cable? i've never used it, it looks like it came from a time capsule from 1997 (i mean it looks in mint condition) is there something wrong with the optical port on the dvd player? OR is everything fuctioning as it should be and i'm doing something wrong?

    MD Car Unit

i've seen and had many chances to pick up a car unit whatever brand or model. i'm wondering though, how do i know if my car can accept the md unit? is it something i should let a professional install?
  4. I posted this on the trades section and no one was biting. maybe someone just wants to buy them? It's Korn and Korn: Issues. They no longer have their cases but are in excellent condition. There's one opy of Korn: Issues going for nearly $20 USD on ebay: http://cgi.ebay.com/KORN-ISSUES-MINIDISC-R...93%3A1|294%3A50 but i'll beat that price y a long shot! i just want to unload these so i can get something i'd rather have. if you're still into a trade, i'm just looking for blanks. go to the trade section for that discussion or just pm me, if you want to buy, i won't ask a price because i just want a good deal for you and me. i'll let you decide a price, there's a strong change ill say "DEAL!" don't hesitate!
  5. Great! I'd love the cases. Are you looking for specific live shows of Zeppelin? Or I could just trade the equal amount of blanks for your cases? Let me know. In case you are wondering, I have various shows of zep from 1968 (the one and only known recording from this year), 1969, 1970, 1971, 1972, 1973, 1975, 1977, 1979, 1980 and 2007 reunion (best version!).
  6. Hi, I have a large library of Led Zeppelin live albums on flac in my mac that i could easily transfer to MD. I also have some beatles stuff too. I already have two albums on MD I'd be willing to trade. I'm looking for blank PRMD-74's. Specifically, I'm looking for their nifty cases and if there's a blank inside maybe i'll take it off your hands:-p
  7. Hi, I hve korn and korn: issues on minidisc. i don't hve the actual cases or inserts for them anymore.but it's all about the music right!? Anyway i'd love a trade for these. I'll take anything. i'll even trade two blanks for these two pre-recorded mds. pm me!
  8. does anyone know if these are being sold anywhere? these are the ones that look sort of like cassette cases. there are always things like this that might have been sitting in factory and re-sold to 3rd party dealers that sell these sort of things. atari did that when they liquidated everything in '97. wasn't sure if that was the case here.
  9. if i end up keeping it, it's the sharp md-ms702. i'd like aa's as a back up if the li-ion batt loses charge and im not near a place to recharge it.
  10. Does anyone know where I can find one of these? I'd really prefer this over the li-ion battery.
  11. Hi, I'm looking to get a Hi-MD recorder so I'm unloading this guy. I got it from nobody beats the wiz brand new when it came out and have taken great care of it since. It comes with everything it came with except the box and the headset. Here's the list: -minidisc unit -remote -manual -leather carry bag -RCA to 1/8" cable -optical cable -ac adapter -lithium ion battery the battery holds charge for a little while, but i'd recommend getting a new one. i've seen them for $15.00 maybe cheaper now, that was 3 years ago when i checked. actually just one for under $15: http://www.needbattery.com/Digital-Camera/...amp;refx=FR00GX i don't have a digi cam and my phone has a crappy cam, but i found i pic of the unit online: Visit My Websitehttp://farm1.static.flickr.com/90/239192828_046ba08955.jpg I've kept the unit in that condition. also found the unit on ebay with all the stuff: Visit My Websitehttp://cgi.ebay.com/SHARP-MINIDISC-RECORDER-MD-MS702-MK-2-NEW-BATTERIES_W0QQitemZ140308076434QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item140308076434&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1205|66%3A2|65%3A12|39%3A1|240%3A1318|301%3A1|293%3A1|294%3A50 I'll do free shipping in the lower 48 of the US. if i don't hear an offer by tuesday thenim throwing it up on ebay. but would much rather do it with someone here:-) PM with offers and questions!
  12. thanks bob. I appreciate the recommendations but like i said, i have access to windows too. if there's other models out there that i could save $$$ i don't mind the extra step of md to windows to mac. convenience is secondary where value and quality (referring to audio compression) are primary. but i'd like to e certain about one thing: to get losses recording via mic in and computer connectivity himd is the only one. not net or standard correct?
  13. Hi all, I've been and MD owner since about 1997. Right now I have a standard MD recorder/player by sharp and my friend gave me her hi-md sony mz-nh6000. I'm going to sell the sharp md and perhaps the sony one for these reasons: 1. the hi-md doesn't have a mic-in 2. the sharp md is analog making computer capture slow. 3.. the sarp md is standard so that means lossless. as some of you may know md is a popular recording medium among sound designers and engineers for film and theatre. this is exactly what i'll be needing. right now we use a mac powerbook with logic pro. a really nice set up, but we're all terrified of something happening and it doesn't have a long lasting battery. if we're filming a forest for 12 hours power consumption is an issue. plus if the md i get is lost or broken it's no where near a severe loss as that apple hardware and software. plus we can very discrete with the md. so what i'm looking for is a md, h-md or netmd recorder with: lossless audio, 1/8" mic-in and easy usb capture to computer. can i find something with all this cheap? i really dont need any other features at all. ive read that you can mount himd in linux as a mass storage device to manage files and if that doesn't wok too well i do have access to windows. We edit on macs with final cut, so as long as my product is aiff or wav in the post-production process, then I'm set. so which is good for me an how cheap can it be? Thanks!
