I make my own labels. The adhesive is strong though, it will never come off. However, I make these labels for MDs that will never change their content.

Hey all. I just got a Sony MXD-D3 and am loving it. I still listen to MDs the old way by dubbing and recording. Anyway, I tried dubbing over some CD-Rs and noticed an issue. Some read and and some don't. Before I spend time doing trial and error. Does anyone have an answer already found for this? Maybe certain brands, certain write speeds? Thanks!

For me it would be higher density Hi-MD discs. Ones that could a lot of storage but also could hold support H.264 video playback in HD. More importantly, though, developing an MD deck designed for audio and other data archiving. That would be fantastic. HDD and flash memory both have their usage faults and can get really pricey. I've never had an issue with MDs and backing up audio. The quality isn't the same but when all the drives crash, I always have the MD version.

This is the first time I've had an avatar!

If Sony approached you and said we're bringing back the minidisc (suspend disbelief or ignore this post) what should the line up be? What features are you looking for? What would be your ultimate MD unit or line of units? Can be a riff or an innovation on an existing one. And to make things a little creative, how about features that could be technologically possible.

Hey, Just pulled this from the closet and snapped a new photos. It's available for sale or trade. There are some scuffs but works perfectly.

Hey all. Any interest?

It's up! I'll start adding to it soon. Let's get some likes tho! http://www.facebook.com/minidiscorg

Looks cool but maybe we should make a MiniDisc facebook page. I don't mind volunteering as long there are people that would down for contributing.

Nice! It's the MiniDisc format that's the issue for them it's that all my music that they don't like, lives on them!

Thanks for the suggestion but all of my friends use iPods or iPod like devices. Besides I've already installed a very nice Sony unit with the Aux in so I can still play my MDs. And I'm not terribly eager to open up my dashboard yet again.;-) So the unit is definitely available and hearing all offers. PM me!

Because I'm the only minidisc owner and user which means that on those long road trips it's always my music that gets played. ;-) Democracy was demanded. Minidisc players, android players and iPhone.

I know this has been brought up before but is there any interest in updating the Minidisc.org site? I realize there is a lot of content on there but it might be worth archiving some older articles that date back to a decade or more ago. In favor of really useful things like a news section and the equipment browser. As well as tutorials etc. It might not get more people to get into Minidisc but it will let surfers that stumble upon the site that there is a current following here. It might be a way to increase the size of the community. Thoughts on this?

Selling my Sony MDX-CA680X. Been getting too much complaining from my car passengers. Finally broke down and got a stereo with a AUX input. No need for this unit anymore. Slight ware on the silver portions. But minimal and cosmetic. Interested in trades mainly. Open to selling offers though. I need a new portable MD player or recorder. My Sharp is bust. Always looking for blanks too.

Hey all, I have a large collection of pre-recorded minidiscs. Most of them are complete with case, inserts. Let me know if there is any interest and I'll put up a list. I'm open to selling but I'm more interested in trades for blanks and players. My Sharp MD portable is on the fritz. Looking for a replacement. Open to diff portables. Recorders, netmd, hi-md, players etc. More interested in it having a nice industrial design and large LCD like my Sharp does than having it be pricier, Hi-MD or rare. Not looking for a collectable per se. Something practical and good looking. Thanks!

Hey all, I'm having an issue with my headphone jack on the Sharp MD-MS702. The right side channel keeps going in and out. Sometimes it sounds fine and balanced then it sounds staticy on the right, then sometimes it simply is inaudible. But again only on the right. I thought it was my headphones at first. Not the case. I tried other headphones and other aux cables. Same issue occured. I imagine there's an issue the jack on the MD unit. Any suggestions before I start blindly experimenting? I was thinking of doing a cotton swap with alcohol on it.

I've been listening to podcasts on my iPhone and I've noticed that it is a huge pain to play podcasts or music with touch screen devices. Same with Android. So much of what you're doing is navigating. I just want to hit play. I started using my MD player for podcasts and I've found that it disrupts my driving a lot less. Mostly because it's tactile interaction and I can keep my eyes on the road. Just wanted to share a reason I recently realized with MDs use!

I have a Sony MD Car Unit and am down for a trade. Let me check the model number and snap a photo.

Looking for a Hi-MD recorder. MZ-RH1, DH10P, or other hi MD recorder. I might settle for a player but preferably looking for a recorder.

I think that last big chance for MD/Hi-MD to get a few more years in was the Sony PSP. If the PSP came out in 2005 and used a Hi-MD disc with 1GB capacity to store the data the made up a game instead of a UMD then you would've had a new MD unit that has the backing of the gaming community to keep it alive. The new NGP also has a UMD drive for legacy games. If they had a Hi-MD drive in the PSP then the forthcoming NGP would also be a forthcoming Hi-MD player. More than that, there would be Hi-MD movies too! I wonder why did Sony spend the money to support a whole new media format (UMD) when they could've used the Hi-MD format. A single layer UMD hold 900MB and the Hi-MD is not far off at 1GB. It's a shame it would have been really cool to pop in a standard MD with meta data on it and sift through the tracks like that. I don't think you'll get anything from Sony. Especially since they are not the mobile devices giant they were a five or so years ago. Tascam still soldiers on though! You could petition for a mobile MD device from them or a Hi-MD one. I think the only kind of MD revival that will happen is what folks like us do for it. -Album releases -Innovations -Tutorials -Rethinking of uses etc. -Ease of access (the pricier things are the harder it will be get more people involved and the more assured you are that it won't catch on) -Figure out what audience would want MD if they can just get an iPod. (I for one use an Mp3 player for casual listening but have the MD's for my favorite music just like my Vinyl collection) Also I treat MD like a fun craft, the way I record the music, I design cover art and custom labels etc. Cater to audiophiles. Folks that'll have a jam packed iPod for "whatever" listening...atmosphere etc. Then have MDs when they really want to engage in the music and listen. IMO mp3 and aac just don't cut it. I know ATRAC is lossy but it just sounds like a better lossy to me. Getting to work on the listed suggestions and others are ways to get things revitalized. Like homebrewers and hackers with classic gaming. Also Super8mm was used for home movies it had a hayday in the 60's and 70's and now has found its way into being a new kind of artistic style for post-modern and experimental filmmaking.

My Sony head unit just went bust:-/ So I'm looking for a new car MD unit. If anyone has one they want to sell then please let me know! I want to try here before I jump on eBay.

My thoughts exactly. It might actually be a smaller number than 500. It's funny you mention 8-Track. I was thinking of having a limited tape release too. I was actually thinking of having a limited run of the movie itself on Betamax:-P Very true. Let me clarify. These will be self published. I have the resources to make some very nice packaging and labeling. Much better and stronger adhesive than what's found on the labels that come with blank MD's. Alas they will be blank MD's and not manufactured the way pre-recorded ones are/were. They will be premium disks, with metadata, nice packaging, cases and labeling though. Again, this will be more for fun in the spirit of enthusiasm over the format. If I had a Hi-MD unit I'd definitely do a limited lossless audio release too! We'll see if I get my hands on one! Glad to see you folks are interested though!

I've got all of Rush's albums. I'll trade whatever else you're looking for after you trade with these other fine folks. I'm looking for Genesis (Peter Gabriel Years), Danger Mouse, King Crimson, Tom Waits, . Let me know what you have.
