Thanks very much for the suggestions. I'll work on them and let you know the outcome.

That's a good point. However, one of the reasons I bought this unit was to be able to transfer some old cassettes to MD using the unit's dubbing function.

I recently picked up this Panasonic shelf system and I have come to discover that I cannot get the unit to record. Whenever I attempt to record, the unit will intermittently display REC ERROR. When I stop recording and the unit attempts to write the TOC it displays EMERGENCY and then ejects the disc. When I reinsert the disc most of the time the disc is blank. On occasion, sometimes it does show a recorded track which I have been able to delete. I've cleaned the MD lens and used a record head cleaning disc. That did not change the problem. I opened the unit up and the MD section has a shield around the drive which means I would have to tear down the unit to see the drive. Something that would be a bitch to do with the way this unit is designed internally. So I was wondering if anyone here has any ideas on what may be going on and have suggestions on how to resolve the problem. Thanks in advance.

This version is what I was looking for. I was able to download this one. I'm visually impaired and the one I located on mindisc.org wasn't working out for me. Thank you to everyone that has responded. You've been a great help with this.

Thanks. I did come across that too when googling. Since it was listed as a service manual I didn't think it would have the normal user instructions embedded in it. Maybe it does. I'll have to check it out.

I should have given more detail. I can open it. The actual problem is the text is too small and not clear enough for me to be able to read it. Since it doesn't seem to be a downloadable file like others, I can't use another PDF viewer to zoom in closer. Thanks for the response.

I was wondering if anyone has the user manual for the Denon DMD-1000 in an electronic format (i.e. PDF) that they could post here or send me via email. I know there is a copy on minidisc.org but I am having trouble reading it. Thanks in advance to anyone that could assist.

That seems to be correct. I have been keeping an eye out on eBay but haven't come across one yet. Thought I would try here. Thanks.

I'm looking to obtain a charging cradle for my MZ-R909. I recently picked up this unit and would like to have the cradle for it.

Just wanted to give you heads up. it seems this same seller has relisted this item. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Sony-Walkman-Cradle-BCA-WM20U-Minidisc-MD-USB-MZ-N1-Mini-Disc-NetMD-/181663038117?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item2a4bf5faa5 -
VHS was capable of producing high quality audio recordings. Better then cassette decks. Back in the day some used to use VHS machines for audio recording instead of a standard cassette deck.

It looks to me like this listing ended with no bids. It may be worth your while contacting the seller to see if it is still available. -
You may have something there. Since most or all rechargable AA batts are 1.2V instead of a 1.5V of a normal AA. I never gave that a thought.

I am looking to buy the Sharp 4 Pole (1 Bit) clip on style headphones and was wondering if someone on this forum has a set they would be willing to sell. I believe the model number is HP-MD90. Pleae let me know if you do. Thanks!

FYI There is a listing for this cradle currently on eBay. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Sony-Walkman-Cradle-BCA-WM20U-Minidisc-MD-USB-MZ-N1-Mini-Disc-NetMD-/181599920981?pt=US_MP3_Player_Chargers_Cradles&hash=item2a4832e355 -
I agree, the pricing is off the chart. I've noticed that asking prices on a lot of MD stuff (on eBay) has gone up. Even for basic entry level stuff.

So, I was reading over the manual for one of my Sharp units and noticed that it stated not to use a rechargable battery (NIcad etc.) in the external battery case. Anyone know why this is the case? The manual doesn't elaborate.

Interesting, thanks for the tip. I will give this a try on a few that I've had troulbe with.

I would have to say for me an interst turned into an addiction. My experience with MD started at the beginning with the first MD unit, the Sony MZ-1. I was an early adopter and bought mine when it was launched. I became so facinated and excited about the format and it's capabilities. A few years passed before I bought another unit which ended up being the Sony MZ-R30. Another great MD unit. For a long period I was only picking up Sony units since that was mainly what I found being sold where I lived with the exception of Aiwa units. For some reason at the time, I never came arcoss units from other mfg. such as Sharp, Panasonic, JVC and Kenwood. It wasn't until I discovered MD units for sale on eBay that I started to build a collection of the other brands. Since that point I have built a sizable collection. My collection has focused mainly on portable units but, I do have a few decks as well. My first deck was the Sony MDS-JE700. I also have the MDS-JB920, Yamaha MDX-793 and a Onkyo MD-2321. Up unitl recently I never really got inot collecting MD discs. I've started to collect some of the more unique discs. I love discs with cool grahpics. So my obbession with MD continues to this very day.

I tred out DCC. The sound quality was good. What I didn't like was I felt it was less user friendly then MD. Then you had the issues of reliability. The head design was very complicated and prone to failures. It never impressed me enough to stray from the MD format.

Thatnks for the responses and the link. I believe this will help.

So I have this Victor XM-PX33 which seems to have a loose headphone jack. When I looked to taking the unit apart, I can only locate one screw on the outside of the case which does not seem to allow me to get the unit's cover off. I was wondering if anyone here has worked on these and can shed some light on how to disassemble the unit. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

While on the subject of trying to "wake up" these gumstick batteries, I found that Sony MD units and even their stand alone gumstick chargers have a hard time or fail to charge weak or almost dead batteries. Personally, I have had situations where a battery won't charge in a Sony unit but any one of my Sharps that use the same battery will bring them back to life. So, I don't know what it is about Sony's design of their charging systems but for me I have found it to be not as good verses other brands.

By any chance can someone give me an answer to my question? I would appreciate it.
