  1. Hey markey, I can't believe it! What's going on? Is Atraclife dead or something? I know the 'news' section should be updated to read 'old news' since the last time we got 'news', Queen Victoria was still on the throne! I hadn't noticed Atraclife disappearing from the search because I have it bookmarked, but still. . . Do you think it's about to disappear for good??
  2. Markey, pray, what is that bug crawling around beneath your name?? I just tried to flick it off my screen before I realised it wasn't a bug! You naughty boy!! GRB: Nice selection, wow, someone remembers Medicine Head! I only remember 2 songs and I thought both were great. Slip and Slide and One and One is One!
  3. There's probably an easier way to do it (but I don't know how!). Use Mp3tag to correct the artwork (unless it's in WAV). You can use it to individualise each cover. If the 8 discs are separate (not lumped in together as one disc), then import the discs into mp3tag, and use 'extended tags' to delete all the existing covers. Then get the covers you want for each album, and again in extended tags, choose the covers you want and apply them to the tracks. If the discs have all gone under one compilation, just highlight the tracks from each album and choose the artwork you want for each one. I've just spent a LOT of time with mp3tag trying to get rid of ancient artwork that was still embedded in the tags despite the fact the artwork wasn't even on my computer anymore!
  4. Same here on my A808 and A829. I guess Sony assumed we wouldn't want to check free space without hooking up to a pc first!

    gapless

No need for the thanks, but thanks for the thanks anyway I assume the entire NWZ series plays gapless WAV files, but I must say I'm surprised it wasn't made clearer in the manual. Perhaps it was, and I didn't read it thoroughly enough. Anyway, as I said, I wasn't expecting it so it was a nice surprise. Jerex - on the Zune I ripped gapless albums as one track through iTunes. I couldn't find how to do that in WMP. It served its purpose for the short time I had it, but you couldn't f/f quickly on the Zune if you wanted to get somewhere close to the next 'unmarked' track. The Sony f/f works much better as you can f/f fast if you pause it first and you can actually hear the music fast forwarding so you get some idea of what you're looking for. I also have EAC installed and have been using it to burn my latest CDs since the ones I rip with WMP quite often 'skip' after they've been burned (despite being on the slowest setting!) Stuge: It looks like it!! But I did give something else a try. I like 'wearing' the Sony so I can wander round with it on and still listen to music. With the Zune I had to be sitting still unless I used the belt clip I bought, but even then, you couldn't see the screen unless you removed it from the clip. Plus the Zune had too many steps to get back to the 'now playing' screen. I guess I'm impatient and got used to the immediacy of the Sony. I'm vert happy with it I have to say, especially as it's down to £185 now and Amazon refunded me the difference

As soon as I ordered the Sony, the Zune got the new software for gapless and auto playlists etc. Can you believe it?? It seemed like a bit of a warning not to sell it. But I couldn't really justify keeping both and the Sony is much more portable than the Zune. And of course, now you know why I was so pleased to discover the Sony played gapless WAV files P.S I think you would like the Zune, it does have a lovely clean sound signature with a really big soundstage.

    European volume limit

I have the 808 (same as 818 but with SS/Atrac) and with the stock phones I had the volume set around 22/25 since isolation was really poor due to the design of them. The sound was nice, but lack of isolation really let them down. With my Denon C700s, I set the volume to around 15/18 and it is plenty loud enough. If you have the European limiter on yours, it might be worth investing in some decent isolating earphones/headphones to get some extra volume out of it.

No one's asking you to be impressed. The fact is most people (myself included) were not aware the 829 could play gapless at all. Therefore it was a bonus to find out it could. I'm very 'impressed' since normally I find features missing. I was aware of all the shortcomings of the 829 before I bought it, and the gapless feature for WAVs was a nice unexpected surprise.

They ARE big since the size is the same as the original CD. But to put it into perspective - on my 16GB 829, I have 5 albums in WAV, plus 1230 songs (@320kbps) and eight 20-minute sitcom episodes with 2.2GB left to spare. That's more than enough for my needs (at the moment anyway!)
  10. Hey, that's great news! So did they refund you the extortionate fee for looking at it yet??? As for the 'very important information'. . . what the hell did they think you were using for transfer?? Magic? And does this mean there's a secret method none of us know about? Anyway, really pleased you got it fixed. That's the main thing

    gapless

Do you mean 'ripping'? WAV for my gapless albums and mp3@320kbps for everything else.
  12. Yes, they're the metalic blue ones and they suit the 829 very nicely No way! Only my favourite gapless albums of which I whittled it down to 5. The rest is in mp3@320kbps EDIT: The Triples stay put better in my ears than the super.fi's ever did. No idea why since I have small ears and the Triples are bigger.
  13. None with the Triple.fi's at all. The combo has a full balanced sound without the need for enhancements. With my Denon C700s, I also have nothing activated, not even Dynamic Normalizer which I used to use a lot. When I had the Etymotic ER-4P for a couple of weeks, I used CB +1 and turned down the treble frequency.
  14. I agree. It also has a bigger soundstage (to my ears) which is quite noticeable.

Thank you for confirming it. And yes, it was a huge surprise to discover gapless WAV files. With 16GB I am able to keep my most 'important' albums in gapless.

    gapless

I don't mind videoing it at all. But I just want Pata to explain which way to do it so it can be proved the 829 plays gapless. I can't see it's provable just by videoing the player itself going from one track to another unless it can be heard. If there's another way, let me know. I'm more than happy to do it if anyone wants to be absolutely sure it can play gapless WAV files.

    gapless

I shouldn't have to prove it since I am listening to gapless as I type!! But as you are so cynical, I WILL video it!! How would you like me to record it, the last minute of one song and the first seconds of the next song? As you won't be able to 'hear' that it is gapless, how does that prove anything? On non gapless tracks the time bar goes from one song into the next anyway so I don't see how that helps prove it can play gapless. The only other way I can think of is to put it in the speaker cradle and play it through there, that way you can 'hear' there is no gap. Would that be good enough for you??

    gapless

As my 8GB 808 played gapless via Atrac it wasn't a problem. Now I have the 829 I have room for a few favourite gapless albums. I think I have around 5 on there, but as I wasn't aware the 829 played gapless at all, it was a nice surprise (for a change!!)
  19. Oh, you have it all in a folder? So you just drag it across to SS when you need to transfer music? If that's the case, drag everything into the SS library before you back up. If there's anything that doesn't get backed up, you'll get a message at the end saying something like: "xxxx tracks could not be backed up". The default location for saved/imported files is C:\ProgramData\SonicStage\Packages\. Make sure you haven't changed the location!
  20. Before you switch computers, use the SS backup tool FIRST to back up all your music. Do you have an external hard drive you can back up on to? When you get the new computer, download the latest version of SS BEFORE you use the backup/restore tool. Once you've downloaded SS, then use the backup to tool to restore your music from the location you saved it in. 1. Back up existing library to an external hard drive (or similar) 2. Download the latest version of SS on the new computer 3. Use the backup tool in SS to restore your library from the saved location I've done it this way many times and it always works without screwing up any of the album art or tagging. Just be sure to do it in that order so that your database can be authenticated.

    gapless

Not true. I have the NWZ-A829 and it plays gapless WAV files
  22. I ordered it last Tuesday, the seller dispatched it on Thursday (together with an e-mail to let me know it had been sent) and it arrived in the UK today Monday (or yesterday since it's just turned Tuesday!). I checked his feedback thoroughly and it seemed fine - plus the 829 looks really cute in the case When you say 'rubber cover', do you mean the silicon ones that you have to use a screen protector with? I don't like those stick-on protectors, they might protect the screen from scratches but they don't protect it if it drops!
  23. I got it from eBay, it was a complete rip off, working out to £25 inclusive of shipping, but I got it anyway since I didn't want to take any risks with my new player! There only seems to be one place selling it in the whole world It's different to the 808 hard case, in that the 4-way pad and home/options aren't covered by rubberised buttons. It looks nice anyway. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/SONY-clear-case-CKH-...Q2em118Q2el1247
  24. I would say I prefer the feel of my 808, but the 829 doesn't feel cheap to me at all. Anyway, I just got a clear hard case for it so now it doesn't matter
  25. Oh crap, sorry! I converted all my lossless to mp3 (and kept the lossless on an external hard drive for backup), and I wrongly assumed you had the same kind of set up. Are you planning to put only WAV on your Sony, or a mix? I have my favourite gapless albums in WAV (only way for them to play gapless!) and everything else in mp3 format. How about converting your WAVs with dbpoweramp (trial period is 14 days I think). It's easy to use, you can convert using the highest mp3 lame setting (320kbps) - and you can use Mp3tag then to sort out all the album art. And you can keep all the WAV files as backup. I appreciate it's a bummer to have go through all that. But once it's done, it's done.
