SonicStage CP 4.3 contains playlist security hole

The fact it's a classed as Highly Critical, http://secunia.com/advisories/27270/ Means that Sony can't afford to waste time releasing an update to fix this. I will be emailing them this afternoon, to try and find out if an new SonicStage is forthcoming.. -
Sony won't be getting any of my money next time. I bought a NW-A3000 for myself, and a NW-A1000 for the GF, very soon afterwards, all support stopped, SonicStage development has stalled, and I feel dumped on. Fortunatly for Sony, it won't be iPod either. Perhaps Creative Zen or something similar.

Sony pulls the plug on Connect, refocuses on PlayStation
mgillespie replied to or300's topic in Software
Blu-Ray is going nowehere, it's got 5 million installed players and vastly more available titles. (my local store is 90% Blu-Ray, 10% HD DVD). As for this news, I am happy IF, if means I can use WMP11 to transfer music to my NW-A3000 instead of ChronicStage. -
I had this exact problem. I had some WMA files ripped using WMP11 to D:\Music\Album1 and D:\Music\Album2 They would not import, giving a 00007180 error. Moving the files to the system My Music folder, the exact same files imported perfectly... Damn buggy SonicStage again. Sony Software is the embarrassment of the Sony division.

I am wondering is SonicStage is no more for this world. 1/ There has not been an update for SonicStage for ages (6 months+) 2/ The latest Walkman players, don't use SonicStage to load music, you simply copy the files to the drive. I suspect SonicStage is dead. This is good, as it was horrible (not as horrible as Connect Player mind you). I am annoyed however, as my NWA-3000 is still dependant upon it. I wish Sony would release a firmware that allows me to copy files to my NW-A3000 without SonicStage, and then I will be happy!! I somehow doubt this will happen, but stranger things have happened... The best thing Sony can do right now, is change their existing players (and new players in the pipeline), to simply read the music from the device, using the filesystem, and not use the stupid database system. I'm sure it can't be that hard. As a bonus, I would finally be able to plug my NW-A300 into my PS3, and play the music from it. Why can't I at the moment? As the left arm at Sony does not talk to the right Arm. That sucks.

USB connectivity problem between NW-A3000 & SonicStage 4.3 under Vista
mgillespie replied to neongod's topic in Software
Is it not possible that SonicStage is now smarter, and now KNOWS there is connectivity issues, that have always been there, but now it is reporting them. As suggested, re-arrange your connections, so the MP3 player is directly into the PC, and other dev ices are on the hub. I suspect this will fix your issues. Hubs can be very troublesome devices... In particular unpowered hubs -
Windows Vista with SonicStage and CONNECT Player?
mgillespie replied to joeseptuk's topic in Software
OK, got my MSDN version of Vista RTM (final), and have SonicStage 4.2 working. It did crash installing OMG module during install, but it does not seem to have affected the performance of it (I seem to recall the same installer crashed in the past on Windows XP x64 edition). So if your trying Sonicstage under Vista, and it crashes, worry not it should still be OK!! -

Damn, It's working OK in RC2.. Seems Microsoft changed something, and Sony have yet to catch up.. -

Let us know how you get on, as Vista compatability is based on a sample of one (me)... -

Vista support appears to be fixed in SonicStahe Cp 4.2 Yay... I don't seem to have the errors I was previously getting, and the database restore loop problem. I have just loaded some tracks, re-started SS, restarted my PC, connected/disconnected my NW-A3000, and everything is "just working "... It also seems sigificantly faster this version... -
No unicode, from what I can tell :-( Seems to be working under Windows Vista (RC2), previous versions failed misrably.. I can finally load music again, on my Vista test machines... I should have Vista RTM final in a few days, will report back on findings....
-
I have a NW-A3000, and was a very unhappy Connect user, I took the advice, wiped my device, installed SonicStage 4, and re-transferred it. I was the best thing I ever did, the device is now almost useable.... I would consider losing your top100, and take the hit...
-
Please tell, I am eager to try Vista compatability, as I have some songs I want to load onto my NW-A3000, which I have been unable to do, as the current SS4.0 is broken on Vista....
-
Vista compatability is essential. That is what I need SS4.1 for. Can anyone RIP the ISO that came with their new player. I can bittorrent it, if Sony can't be bothered to release it...
-
Any chance of creating a copy of the SS 4.1 files, and getting them distributed? I want to report on if SS finally works with Windows Vista, but it's not generally available yet.. If somone wants to ZIP up the US version, and email it to mark.gillespie@NOSPAMgmail.com (remove the NOSPAM), I will give it a try with Vista RC2 and report back here... Cheers.

Windows Vista with SonicStage and CONNECT Player?
mgillespie replied to joeseptuk's topic in Software
I am really hoping the forthcoming SonicStage CP 4.1 addresses this, otherwise Sony will be even further from their desired market position for Walkman, as ITunes already works flawlessly in Vista RC2, and Microsoft Zune will of course be Vista ready when it arrives. Creative have a open API, so even if the supplied tools don't work, there are others that do. I suspect Sony is the ONLY portable player at the moment that does not work in Vista. As usual, very shabby support from Sony, who simply don't seem to care about their customers, or their fast deminishing reputation for delivering good, hi-tech products. -
I really hope they add Vista compatability with SS4.1, as I am running it here, and can't load any new music onto my Walkman.. In comparision, iTunes works flawlessly under Vista RC2.

It's nothing to do with how well you installed your system, or your PC specs (within reason). I tried Connect Player 1.03 on a brand new install of XP, on my AMD3500+ with 1GB or RAM, and it was horrible, to about 8 minutes to start, crashed frequently, went into never ending loops. I think it's to do with the mix and number of files. I had 5000 tracks in my library, a mix of ATRAC, MP3, WMA.
-
OK, Sonicstage 4.0 CP is a big imrovement over Connect player, but it's still far from perfect, with quite a few bugs. It's been over 3 months since SS 4.0CP was released. Surely there must be a followup bugfix release due soon? Anyone know???
-
Syncing some tracks using SonicStage 4.0CP, and it simply exited, with no error, for no reason. It took me about 10 attempts to copy music. It may have been caused by the WiFi network (where the music library is located), as it worked as soon as I moved the PC and connected it to a wired LAN connection. Still very strange, as if it was crashing, I would have expected a XP error report to pop up. All I got was noting, bang, SS4.0CP was gone.

Windows Vista with SonicStage and CONNECT Player?
mgillespie replied to joeseptuk's topic in Software
An update on SonicStage/Vista: I gave up on Vista Beta 2 about a month ago, as it was too slow, and a memory hog. However, I now have a post beta 2 build from MSDN (build 5472). As after as the Vista side of things, it's a vast improvement on beta 2, much faster. The problem is however, is that SonicStage 4.0 CP does not work. It tells me that my System Information has changed, and gets stuck in a restore loop. Anyone else seen this, and know how to fix it? (apart from going back to XP!!) -
Like the look of the CPF-IX001, but there is no way I would touch it with a barge-pole if it does not have DLNA/UPnP Compliance, which is the defacto industry standard. Anyone know??

Windows Vista with SonicStage and CONNECT Player?
mgillespie replied to joeseptuk's topic in Software
My expereinces of SonicStage 4,0 and Connect Player 1.04 on Vista Beta 2 are: Connect Player. Did not initially work using the desktop shortcut, which points to cplayer.exe. However, if I launch tinyhttp.exe instead, it DID work. It worked better than XP (as mentioned), both clean installs, with the same media. My missing CD drives in XP showed up in Vista (both 32bit and x64 editions). SonicStage 4.0 Worked flawlessly under Vista Beta 2 (32bit). Not tried under x64 version. -
I thought there was an option somwehere to not keep those files...
