  1. Not sure if this has been mentioned but Sony Centres in the UK no longer deal with warranty issues on the NW-a series since about June 06. You would need to send it to Sony Central Service in Wales, who have some of the worst customer service in the world! I had loads of trouble and the manager was in fact investiagted as a result. As for Sony Centres shutting down, I'm totally unaware of this. My local store is Trafford, Manchester. They are business as usual and so is the one in Manchester city centre.
  2. My iPod Mini rules, it's the walkmans that I have that I don't want to be seen with! Sony have heavily let me down with their services. Send them for repair and they lose one and do nothing with the other. They replace the lost one with a totally different colour dispite me saying time and time again what colour it was!

    NW-A1200's color

I meant all the different models, I didn't read all above so didn't know about the US models.
  4. Try this, enter the test mode and go to others. Then go down to OEL 1 and select it. It should make the screen go white. There are three others; OEL 2 (blank), 3 (semi) and 4 (reverse of 3). Try them all, but OEL 2 shouldn't matter.

    NW-A1200's color

On pics the violet looks different but the one with the four Japanese girls together is exactly how it looks, very purple. And all the NW series walkmans come in the same purple box.
  6. Cheers, that makes sense Song still comes up first, anyway to have the home menu to display first? Also, I need a discreet belt clip like the iPod Mini comes with.
  7. Apart from capacity, the 1200 and 1000 are exactly the same. And, apart from capacity and physical size, they are exactly the same as the 3000.
  8. Hey, not been here for a while. I have a reason, I found a brand new green iPod Mini 6GB (my all-time favourite) on eBay...rare as hell! I also sent my two walkmans to Sony Central Service in the UK in their boxes taped firmly together and somehow they lost the 1000 and found the 3000 after I was given the wrong address as well. In total, they have had my NWA-3000 for 3 months, that's a quarter of the time I've owned it. My impression of Sony has gone from GREAT to SOME OK-ISH PRODUCTS THAT COME WITH CRAP SERVICE! Anyway, I want to know how to stop the 3000 from playing the first track on start-up. I'm sure I've seen this done somewhere on here but I tried searching and couldn't find anything. I also need a decent way of attaching either the 3000, 1200 (brand new replacement due to Sony's stupidity) or my iPod Mini to the dashboard of my new car when I get it. The iPod's clip can be stuck onto the dashboard but then again it's louder that the walkman when either are volume unlocked (I use Etymotic ER's) so although it would be easier for the iPod to go into the car, it's gonna have to be either the 1200 or the 3000. Any suggestions?
  9. I have already been planning a plug-in since early november and I will be starting it shortly. It will hopefully include all features, some may come in later versions. I am using the help and expert advise of xipse and what he has learnt from making GYM to make the plug-in for Winamp.
  10. My file was slightly bigger but it really doesn't matter cos it's still the same bloody file and a magical impostor from Apple who is working at Sony hasn't changed the file for a virus that is ever so slightly bigger. I upgraded without a reason other than to see how it upgrades, I don't use wma files nor did I start to cry and panic when the file was slightly bigger!
  11. For hold whilst off it takes a little simple understanding. First, turn on the player, make sure nothing is playing. Secondly, goto the home menu, you don't actually have to but it helps prevent anything playing whilst you operate hold. Lastly, pres and hold the hold button until hold is on and then leave you player alone. If nothing is playing the player shuts itself down and hold will still be on. That's the actual way of puttin it into hold whilst being turned off. The way they do it at the factories is the player will already be formatted with hold turned on so that when it is turned on for the first time it will say hold is on. That's the most likely way they do it.
  12. It's one download of an album, any album, not tracks or anything else, just an album. The 16 digit code you need comes in the box with the manual. It's white and purple, one piece of paper folded in half with a long (yes, you guessed it) 16 digit code, each digit in it's own little box. You really can't miss it. To be honest it's pointless bothering, I started downloading and never finished because it's slow and you get an error box saying failed all the time. By the time you have the majority of the album downloaded you could have become bored of listening to it after playing it so much if you bought it or (ahem) downloaded it another way.
  13. There is no need to have any software running when you connect the player to the PC. Check your PC specifications to see if they are equal to or greater than the player's recommended specifications. Something that you have more than obviously tried is turning on the player without it being connected to the mains supply or PC, but it's best to double check as you have just said that you have connected it and tried turning it on. Once connected to the PC you should get the "Connecting" message and the two arrows spinning round, whilst this is being shown you cannot control the player, however, if plugged into the mains and the same arrows apper with "Charging" then pressing the back button will return you to the main menu of the player so try that. If those fail, and ofcourse initializing and resetting using the reset button on the bottom of the player fail, head to www.sony.co.uk, click the link for the player until you see the links under a picture of the player. I can't remember exactly what the link is called but something like troubleshooting, I'm sure you'll find it! Keep following Sony's links until you find the .pdf manuals, there should be a .pdf of the manual supplied with the player and another larger troubleshooting one. Hopefully that should help if all else fails, but if not I can only suggest going back to where you got it and getting a replacement and if you're still within the returns policy you should get a brand new one. Hope this helps.
  14. Thanks to much appreciated help from xipse and from others such as otiasj I am a few steps closer to making the Winamp plug-in to support HDD Walkmans in the media library!
  15. Over a month ago I had the idea of creating a Winamp plug-in for the new Sony Walkmans. I have been hoping to learn the basic coding for how MP3 files are renamed and put onto the player as a OMA files so that the plug-in could be made to do this and to possibly do it quicker than SonicStage. If anyone have some help or tips that they can provide for me that would be great, I'm already a step closer knowing that xipse's software deals with this coding. Thanks in advance for any help!
  16. Best place will be eBay.co.uk or one of the other European eBay sites. Also, try direct from Sony, it will be RRP though. By the way, being in Turkey means that you're in Europe. Sony have released the players to Europe, not just the European Union have they not?!
  17. Great program xipse! I need to ask a few questions but I'll email you or something as it doesn't really fit into this topic. I'm having a bit of a problem regarding MP3 File Manager though, when I run the wizard for it and it searches for my device the list is empty. I click Rescan and still nothing, is this because I'm using a NW-A3000?
  18. I've seen this happening too, and like the topic starter, would like to stop it. It adds a play count at the start, unlike what the other guy said about it needing at least 15 seconds becasue when I look at top 100 it has one of my favourite songs and below it will be the song that follows it in the library. This is happening because I am waiting for the song to end and then selecting another and this means that the next song plays for a few seconds first and it gets added. If anyone can work out how to make the play counts come at the end of a song and also how to stop the first song in the library from playing at start up then please help! In the mean time I'll be taking a look.
  19. Minutes later and I have half an answer to the artist link problem. If you are pressing the link button whilst playing a song it will either list artists and allow you to preview them or it will say "Cannot find linked artists". If it cannot find linked artists, I have found out that it will either say "Increase search range", in which case you can select other options other than just genre. If it does not say "Increase search range" then heres the tricky part, either it needs updating in firmware (i think) or all files on the player (whether you update the tags or not) have no information with them. This could mean additional information other than just tags is needed, that part I do not know. So now if you're seeing "Increase search range" you're ok, which would have been obvious anyway, if you don't see this then hold tight for an answer soon!
  20. Stuge, for someone who doesn't even have a NW-A1000/3000 you seem to think you know alot about things like the artist link and ratings! In reply to the other guy, when you try to rate a song it tells you that you must connect to the compliant software or, if you use Connect already, it lets you rate! I too am having the artist link problem with my NW-A3000 and and my guess is that it must be something else as well as the genre that requires the link. That's only a guess though. So far I've had one Walkman with ATRAC3 and my new one with MP3's and it always says that a link cannot be found!
  21. SonicStage is by far the better for me, because of Connect I'm on my second NW-A3000. I took the first one back due to the poor software and also because my Walkman was freezing a bit. Connect is extremely slow, does not recognise more than 300 songs on my PC and it crashes all the time. With SonicStage I have had no problems! I use both pieces of software, SonicStage to manage my music and my Walkman and I installed Connect to see if it's any better, which it is, but also so I can rate songs and use other features that require Connect.
  22. I went back to my nearest SonyCentre yesterday to get my new NW-A3000! I took my first one back because some problems have been found with the items at release and I bought mine 2 days after the release. Now I'm happy because without the louder volume it's very quiet with inner-earphones but now I've boosted it through the test menu it's just right. If it helps I have found no problems with the EQ and MP3 files. It all works as expected!
