Hello, Is there a tool that I can use to split ATRAC files? I have some CD's that have a lot of blank space at the end of them... in one case there is not even anything in it, for up to 20 minutes... I just get annoyed having to waste valuable megs on nothing! Thanks

Well... this is a funny one... I know stuge is right... but I never wanted to get any data back from the CD... As for SSCP, it actually fails before the burn (Writing) stage. And despite the error message I get ("The remaining transfer count is zero"), once I take that CD out, and use a new one. The tracks can be transferred. I have been able to replicate the problem if I stop the transfer process halfway through. Once the process has finished transfering, and before it starts writing to the CD, SS seems to hang on either 65% or 69% completion for ages. Maybe I am not patient enough!

It is not quite the same... but you can do something similar... for instance, if you want to listen to all of the songs for a particular artist, you find them and then click on "Option" and then select play from the menu... this is effectively the same as choosing the All Artist X from once you go to a particular artis. You can do this for any type of grouping, Artists, Genre, etc... I find it useful in particular for the recent transfers... that way I can click on it and listen to all the stuff that I have just transfered in one go.

Tom Kat, I am using Win XP SP 2... however, I think I found the problem... I was trying to copy some other stuff to the same CD, songs that I hadn't transfer before and I got the same error message... so I grabbed a new CD and tried copying the album I was having problems with and voila! it worked!! I don't know how ATRAC CD's work, but maybe there is something stred in the CD itself... I have been happily making new CD's today.

Hello, Recently I got a new car stero which unfortunately does not have a line in. But being a Sony, it does support ATRAC CD's... So I thought, finally having all my CD's in ATRAC will pay off! So I started burning my first CD and it kept on bombing out without any particular error message. But I must have tried to copy the same albums probably bout 10 times... Then I decided to do it 1 at a time. It was a bt hit and miss, with some out of memory errors, but I managed to get the first 6. On the 7th, I started getting this error message: The tracks cannot be transferred to the device/media. The remaining transfer count is zero. Awake And when I go to the "Awake" song, and check the file info, I get: Playback restrictions: None No. of times played: 1times No. of times transferred: 0times Remaining transfer count: Unlimited Remaining ATRAC CD transfer count: Unlimited Remaining audio CD transfer count: Unlimited Looking through the posts I saw someone that had a similar problem and sorted it by removing the files from SS and then re-importing them, but it didn't solve the issue. I am using SSCP 4.0 and have an Intel Core laptop with 1GB of RAM Any ideas?

I can't remember at which level do you have to do this (either when you are viewing groups or the albums for a group) so then you press "Option" to open the menu, and you can select play from there
-
Great idea!!! Have you thought about porting this to the Mac? At least there would be a viable option for Mac users. I am no programming expert on the Mac, but I would be willing to help
-
They are mp3's. They are renamed, but not converted, when copied to the unit.
-
Biosbhai... I am glad I could help

Something similar happened to me once... I can't remember under what circumnstances. I pressed the reset button, and as far as I can remember it worked like a hard reboot. It didn't delete the data.

Yes. ou can do 2 things to check that they are still mp3's If you are playing the song on the player, just click the "Option" button and then select "Detailed Information" from the menu... it will tell you then. You can also play the actual .omg file directly in Windows if you open it with Media Player (asuming that the unit is plugged in). It complaints, but it will play it as an mp3 file
-
You can do this by pressing option and the choosing play from the menu that pop's up when you are at the album level within a group. Similar to the one above I suppose... just press play wherever you want to start playing, and it will continue playing all the stuff at that particular level. Play mode has to be set to Normal as far as I know Mac support would be a great idea!

It has happened to me once or twice since I started using SSC 4 where I have noticed that an album has not been transfered when using the autotransfer, but that the next time I transfer it it appears there. If you have deleted it from your library this will obviously prevent it from being transfered the next time. To be hones I have never paid attention to the stuff that is autotransfered... I always thought that it I was loosing my marbles, but perhaps I am not As for the song being in your player, but not accessible, if you can find it by either artist name, album or song name, the it is definitely not there!

You need to put it on hold before it powers down (it is a weird one BTW), to avoid the playing turning itself on by mistake. In other words, once you want to stop using it, stop the player, do not power it down, and then put it on hold by pressing the hold key. The unit will turn itself off a few seconds later and will not turn fully on until you have removed the hold. Hope this helps

Does anybody know whether Sony is planning on releasing a bigger version of the A3000? I find the 20GB's a bit restrictive, specially when other players have 60GB versions. At this point, I prefer the advantages of the Sony player over the space that I have. But I am sure that can change with time!
-
What about reloading your database. I did it when I moved to SSC and I don't have the problem... granted, it took a couple of hours to do the full thing but it worked OK
-
Has anybody tried using it under WINE? Would it work. I have a Mac, and I know it recognises the device as an external HD. Linux should be able to recignise this as well.

There is a setting within the "Transfer" options (I think you can also get this when you click on the little toolbox just before transfering), that lets you choose when will you convert your files to Atrac, it is either always, or when the original format is not supported by the player.
-
TureNorth, I can't remember where I read it, but I am pretty sure that thet's the way it should behave... The documentation said that if you want to make modifications to any playlists, you had to remove it first from the player and then retransfer... it is actually not too annoying once you know that this is the expected behaviour

About 12 seconds... I am using the lates 1.04 version. When I open it, I don't have my Walkman connected. It is a Laptop with a 1.5 Pentium M processor and 1GB of RAM Hope this helps!

John, I share your frustrations. I have managed a working environment that I am happy with, and I am sure that a number of the people here would have done something similar. I will share it with you. First and formemost, disable artist link and network features. This is under the Internet section at the bottom of the Preferences panel. This hasn't affected the Gracenote features, although it is not that important, see below. I had lots of problems with this as they were constantly doing "stuff" behind the covers. I also noticed that a lot of my tracks were messed up (either album name or genre changed for no particular reason, as well as album artist sometimes!)In my case, ConnectPlayer crashes after the second CD that I import, and that drives me nuts, as I have to reboot the machine each time. So I decided to continue ripping my CD's to atrac using SonicStageBecaues I like to have some of the features that come with ConnectPlayer, like playlists, or history, etc. After I ripp my CD's, I go into ConnectPlayer, and import the directories, then I copy them manually to the Walkman. I have about 4000 songs as well, and it is working OK. This approach works for me because I rarely add more than a couple of CD's at a time.Hope this helps!

Azureal, I recently did something similar when I changed my laptop. It was on version 3.3 but it worked like a charm, I don't see why it shouldn't work. First backup everything using the backup tool, and then restore it. My suggestion, don't get rid of the first PC until you have the second one working!

It has been a while since the last updates for SonicStage and Connect came out. Any news from those in the know of when the next reeleases are expected? Are they really coming?

I had a similar situation once when burining data CD's (nothing to do with Sonic Stage). It turned out that I was using the worng speed. You have to make sure that both your CD Burner, and your media are the right ones for the speed that you are burning at. You can change the settings in the Options menu. I just looked at mine, and I believe the default there is 24x. That might be the reason for it!
