The MZ-NH1 comes with both a USB cable and a cradle. The cradle is used for charging ONLY The cable is used for data/audio transfer. Both cannot be used at the same time. However, the MZ-NH1 uses power from the usb port when doing data/audio transfer so that the battery dosnt get cained as the ones in the old NetMD's did.

Questions/Comments for Marc's uploading utility.
marcnet replied to journalist's topic in Hi-MD Renderer Forum
I have. OMG support is in version 0.21 onwards. Its experimental and buggy. But its in there. I have tested it by encoding a wav using the OpenMg software that was available prior to SonicStage 2.0 (I had it installed on my laptop for NetMD transfers before I bought my big PC which I now use for HIMD transfers) -
Okay.. This is a new thread for my little program... but its not a general questions / comments thread. Please use the other (large) thread for that sort of thing. Ive just played around with a LAME MP3 DLL and due to the great design (trumpet blowing time) of my sample buffer managment system, I have managed to get my program to write an mp3 directly. Now, MP3 is the most common format, yes, but its also one of the *worst* (in my opinion - thats why I have over 250 original music CD's ... < 160kbs MP3 is just too horible to use for listening to.....) Anyway. What other *FREE* music formats (besides mp3 and .wav. They will be in the next release) would other people like me to add support for in HIMdRenderer? The criteria for music formats for me to include are: 1) A DLL version of the encoder must be available 2) Some form of SDK must be freely available. 3) I am able to distribute the binary DLL used for encoding freely with HIMDRenderer ...Or you could suggest music formats and I could look into those 3 things for you.... I look forward to your comments

Or convert the .oma files to .wav (and then to .mp3 or whatever) using a certain well known HIMDRenderer program
-
Just a thought: If the protocol is there to extract encryption keys from the device, and the actual music data can be read from the big .hma file, then you have your own .oma file maker. This could make my HIMDRenderer program even better  But... Im not promising anything - just that Ill have a really good look at some point in time.

I know. Ive done that and it will be in the next release. Im also working on a built in bug and log submitting system to make things a bit easier for me. -
1) Try putting a trackmark in just before where the error occurs and one just after the error 2) Dirty and/or scratched disc. Head could also be dirty. The error is probably the result of your MD unit having great difficulty reading that particular part of your recording

You're trying to convert a OMG file, not a OMA file. Either a) Use the OMG->OMA file upgrade utility provided by Sony in the later versions of SonicStage (2.1+) Get the latest version (0.21) of my program and use the EXPERIMENTAL (ie: it may not work properlly) and try converting the file with that. -
If you're in the menu on the MD unit itself then you wont be able to access the menu via the remote control. You will have to exit the menu on the MD first. Press the "menu" button on the MD unit itself (NOT the remote control) to exit the MD's menu. Then, and only then, are you able to access the menu via the remote control. Same thing is visa-versa. If you are in the menu on the remote control you will not be able to access the menu on the MD unit itself. You will need to press STOP on the remote control before you can access the menu on the MD unit in this case.

1) Yes 2) There are no restrictions with data. You can Copy anything onto hi-md using one PC ... and then copy from that hi-md to a completly different PC 2.5) Sonic stage is not required for data transfer. I basically inserted the USB cable into my mates PC (he dosnt even know what SonicStage is, let alone installed it) and it came up as a removable media drive just fine 3) Use Sonicstage to upload from hi-md to a .oma on your PC. Then use my program to convert from .oma to .wav. Recordings made via optical cable can be converted this way 4) Sllooooooooowwwww 5) Dont know. Sorry.

No. Sorry. The program uses DirectShow.. and the Sony modules expect some sort of clock to sync to when I modify the seek position... The best thing to use for a reference clock is DirectSound. -

Try version 0.21  http://www.marcnetsystem.co.uk/himdrenderer021.zip Should be no differnece in version 0.20. I would, however, like a like log file to see why this happens. Please make sure the "Generate log file" option is selected and PM me the resultant file. -

Anyone for version 0.20?... The changelong is quite descriptive so i wont repeat it here. http://www.marcnetsystem.co.uk/himdrenderer020.zip Read changes at http://www.marcnetsystem.co.uk/himd/ -
One thing about your review.. One tiny nit-picking thing.... My program is not shareware. It is freeware. The option is there for people to pay for it and make a donation... but this is indeed completly optional. Afterall... Im a passive capatilist

I never thought of this. The majority of problems on my web site are basically the same thing: "Failed to connect source filter (omg_src) to dest filter (omg transform)" Now I have an answer.... I may even add the conversion thing into my program.. somehow.... -

Coming soon to a HiMDRenderer program near you: * A built in "Find .oma/.omg files" function (will only be available to GUI version....) I take all your comments seriously... I didnt know finding .oma files could be difficult for some people, so now im doing something about it. -

Come by on the Undernet IRC network in the #marcchat if you want real-time help... Im usually on between 8pm - 12am (BST) Or send me a PM on this forum... Im sure this thread is getting way to long Or: Simply run my program (The HiMDRendererWin.exe version). Click "Browse" by the input file. Select an .oma file to convert. Press "Go Render!" ... How could I make it simpler??? Im open to suggestions... -
I think you will find that TMPEG generates a full sized .wav file... but everything over 1 minute is silent Not to blow my own trumpet or anything, but the reason my program works is because of the way it gets around this 1 minute limitation that all other DirectShow apps exibit.

Dont you hate it when all runs fine on your own machine and eveyone else gets crashes ... Oh well... Could you run the program with "Generate log file" enabled, make sure it crashes  and then PM me the log so I have a better understanding of what is going on. -
... My program wont work with SonicStage 2.0 ... You need at least SS2.1 in order to convert .oma/.omg files to .wav. Also, if the files do not play in Sonicstage (DRM etc etc) then they cannot be converted using my program.

marcnet replied to journalist's topic in Hi-MD Renderer Forum
I would say that Ive fixed the clicking problem (Give it a go! you can convert from .oma to .wav as much as you like using my program... I know I have). As for the SonicStage trashing uploads..... Dont know. It has been rumored to have been improved / fixed ... but Ive never had any of my upload tests trashed to start with -
Questions/Comments for Marc's uploading utility.

HIMD render does exactly as the GraphEdit picture shows (but programatically, of course) and sets start and stop times in the graph. This works as long as: a) You dont render blocks at more than 1 minute a go You can handle repeats, missing audio, and clicks at block borders HiMd renderer does a) and quite nicely. And I am looking for a SonyWav writer replacement. What is this WavDest filter you mention? Its not in my (Win XP SP1) graph filter list on GraphEdit. Maybe its not on XP (Direct X 9) or maybe im looking in the wrong place. I know that File Writer only accepts MEDIATYPE_Stream as input ...and the SampleGrabber filter does not want to connect to any audio source I give it when I try to connect via my program (ie: programatiicaly)... The weirdo thing is that SampleGrabber connects no problem when using GraphEdit. Any ideas anyone? Im stumped. Anyway... 0.08 will be out sometime next week... The main fix is to the file mapping code. I use memory mapped files to make reading from the temp file faster and easier. However, it does not work when trying to map a huge temp file... So Im putting in some other methods in place which will automatically get activated if mapping the whole temp file fails.
