If its $100 more then it prolly has a mic or something extra included in the box. That is what they did with the RH10 and M100
-
Where did you get your RH1 at and how much was it? Minidisco doesnt have it listed yet and I havnt seen it show up at Frys either.

First off...pull your head out of your ass and actually have some knowledge of what youre talking about. 1) The reson they went to a lithium battery was so that it would have a line out. The unit will record for just about the same amount of time with the lithium battery pack then the older models did when using both gumstick and external battery. 2) HIMD and DVD technology are not even remotely close to the same thing 3) HIMD is SLOOOOOW and would never work with an 8MP camera. CF/SD/Memory sticks are so cheap right now its crazy. A 1GB memory stick doesnt cost anywhere near $400...*maybe* $75 and prolly less if you find one on sale. 4) Quit your crying. -Greg

Is Sony Missing a Beat By Not Offering Hi-MD Options?
dunebug81 replied to Christopher's topic in News

I have the same issue but it crashes when I import any MP3s that are "disc 2" of a multi disc set. But heres the kicker. When I rip the Mp3s from the Cds with dbpoweramp I rip disc one just like normal but when I rip the 2nd disc I rename the files so that disc two will come after disc one. IE disc 1 is 01 - 09, so rather then having disc 2 be 01 I rename it 10 so I can just have one directory for each album/bootleg/whatever. SS 3.4 will import disc one mp3s with no problem...but when i tries to import that 1st file from the 2nd disc it just crashes. No warning or error message of any kind. All files are riped and encoded with Winamp @ 192k mp3...I spoke with sony and he said to reinstall or try it on a different computer. What a waste of time that was. Any suggestions?? --- Edit: Well I changed the ID tag from v2 to v1 and they imported just fine...WTF?? Thanks to whoever said something up the ID tags messing it up. But why would disc one IDv2 tags be ok but disc two IDv2 tags not? Weird.

It seems to me that powering via usb will be possible. I know its possible with other players/recorders on the market. With no extra wall plug input (or car adapter) it would make sense that usb power is a feature. Build (or buy) an R/C car battery pack with 4 rechargable AAs and that thing will run for days! Which is really good for us that record festivals and would rather spend $15 on an battery pack then $60 on an extra lithium battery.
-
duh!! I guess Im so used to only seeing the meters during recording that I assumed thats what they were. Thanks for the info!!
-
The RH1 uses a lithium battery so it will run for 6 hours in PCM with a full charge. That is usually more then enough for any show or festival.
-
Any chance there are level meters on playback?

I taped a show last night and ended up being 10 tracks...i combined them (in unit) and uploaded it with no problems. I have the latest version of SS.
-
Im not sure if you got what I was asking. My question was in refrence to live recording...so Im recording a concert and the band walks off stage and I need to change discs. I hit stop and it does into the data save mode for a few seconds and then the writing file system mode (for what seems like forever). Id say that it takes a good 45-60 seconds from the time i hit stop to the time its done writing to the disc so I can open the unit and swap the discs. If you have already tested this please link me to your findings.
-
Not that you know this yet but has sony said anything about fixing, whatever is wrong with either SS or the MD itself, the random trashing of discs when uploading? Ive only had it happen to me 3 times in the last year but its kinda annoying...especially if its a concert that I really enjoyed and would want to listen to again. Since the uploading speed has increased has the "save data" and "file system writing" times have decreased. Ive noticed that my RH10 disc flip time is considerably longer then my Sharp MT90. Its apples vs oranges when comparing the HIMD vs legacy MD but its just something Ive noticed. Thanks again for the AWESOME pictures...I can't wait to buy this.
-
Sweet, well that answers that. I thought the battery lasted longer when charging it off the wall rather then the computer but never really tested it since I almost always use the AA battery pack.
-
No, my RH10 has both usb and 5v wall charger. I like the wall charger better because it will charge much faster if I cant leave it plugged into the computer all night long.
-
Is there no wall charging port? I didnt see one.
-
Your ears and your microphones/mixing console can hear two completely different things. If you were to record off the soundboard at a concert the monitor/tape sends are different then what is being sent over the PA. -Greg

Defying Expectations, Third Generation Hi-MD Unit Surfaces?
dunebug81 replied to Christopher's topic in News
If you have some good mics and preamp and run line in theres no reason not to go with the HIMD. Here is a song that i recorded the other night at a concert. http://www.enemyzeo.com/greg/music/Please.mp3 Ive seen the microtrack in person and that thing is ugly!! I will buy this new MD the first day its available. -Greg -
I have the same problem. I recorded a show and on the disc (Memorex 80 min recorded in PCM) had 3 tracks on it. I deleted the first track off the disc via SS 3.3 and it went fine. Then I renamed the 2 other tracks and went to upload them and i got an error saying they cant be read or played. I hit stop and took out the disc and put it back in. Now sonic stage doesnt even show the 2 discs any more, but it does now that there is space being used since there is only 14mb free on the disc. Using windows explorer i can see the hma files but im sure are worthless due to DRM. Any thoughts?
-
I dotn remember it being too hot or too cold. maybe around 80 or so.
-
Works fine...i think the disc is just bad and im out my entire recording...oh well. Alter Bridge is a shit band anyway. -Greg

I taped a show tonight...the 2 openers on a 80min disc in HI-SP with no problems. When the headlinder came on I switched to PCM w/ a 1 GB disc. Everything recorded OK. I plugged in the MD (RH10 US) in to my radio in my truck and everything was fine...listened to 15-20 min of the show no problems. Then I get home and attempt to upload the set from the HIMD to the PC and after about 2 min or so I get an error saying "Error transfering file - an internal error has occured". I try it a few more times and I get the same thing. Ive rebooted several times and still nothing. I installed total recorder and did the play record thing and it goes fine for about 4 min and then the MD display comes up with "Data read error" and somewhere around the 4:30 mark it just stops. I took the disc out and checked to see if I could see anything wrong with the disc and it looks good from what I can tell. When I put it back in it wont even read the disc...it just says "Format Error Disc" then flashes to "Format to play or record" and flashes again "enter: yes, cancel: no" I havn't formatted the disc so is there anything that I can do? Everytime I put the disc in I get the same format error disc message....Ive taped 10 or so shows with the recorder and all the other ones have come out just fine. I've used both Sony 1GB discs and Sony 80min discs...but tonight the 1GB disc is giving me problems. Since this has only happened once I can't say it's the disc or the player. Have there been any reports of the player or discs being bad.

Questions/Comments for Marc's uploading utility.
dunebug81 replied to journalist's topic in Hi-MD Renderer Forum
While I dont have a HI-MD yet nor have i used any of this software I just want to say that its amazing what you have done marc! I was holding off on buying a HI-MD to record concerts with because I couldnt transfer my shows to the PC for editing. Ive got a job at best buy and they are up on the website so im going to see what kinda deal i can get on the NH1 or NH900 and a bunch of discs. One question tho...from what ive read, correct me if im wrong, i only get *ONE* shot at uploading from HIMD to the computer? WTF is that?! Anyone taped a show with the NH900 email or pm me..id like to know what you thought of it. ---------- Greg www.enemyzero.com/greg/ aim: dunebug81 -
While this doesnt exactly go in this section i figured that some of you have had your recorder not write the toc to the disc after recording. Ive got 3 discs that I need a toc clone to. I dont have the right gear (JE510) to do it myself otherwise I would. Any thoughts as to why my portable isnt writing the toc correctly? Ive had it for about 3 years now and have recorded about 150 show so maybe its just giving out?? I sure hope not..I love my Sharp MT90 and that model isnt made any more! If anyone could be so kind as to help me out id be mighty greatful! Just let me know what you charge for this service. dunebug81@netzero.com or dunebug81 via aim ---------- Greg www.enemyzero.com/greg/ aim: dunebug81

OK heres my situation. I recorded a show with a Sharp MT90 MD recorder and one of the screws, unbeknown to me, was missing from the lid and i must have pulled up on it and the player shut off before recording the TOC to the disc. I dont know how much i actually recorded, but I think it was a good bit. Anyway...what my real problem is..is that I recorded it in mono and I had a friend try to clone the toc, but since its in mono he wasnt able to do it with his Sony deck. Did he just do something wrong, or is there a difference between Sharp mono and Sony mono? What would I need to buy to clone this TOC? Or would someone have the proper gear to clone the TOC and be willing to do it for me if I threw a couple of bux their way?? Any insight that anyone has on what I can do would be great. It was a great show, and Id love to be able to listen to it again...even if it only has a few songs on it. ---------- Greg www.enemyzero.com/greg <-- My bootleg page aim: dunebug81
