  1. I often see people advertising "WTB: legacy MDLP gear," etc. etc...i myself own an IM-MT880 but haven't touched it in a little while with my new Hi-MD infatuation...so I was just wondering why several people still seem to like it more than Hi-MD? Is it sound quality (i.e. some seem to prefer good ol' fashioned SP over Hi-SP), lack of funds to buy Hi-MD, all of the above? peace WaywardTraveller
  2. Just laughing at the fact that if you look at Minidisc Australia, it's now actually cheaper to buy the NH800 bundle package than to buy the replacement remote for the unit. peace WaywardTraveller
  3. Hmm...I was actually thinking about this the other day, since I DO get that over-equalized "washed-out" sound from time to time...now by "lower all bands one increment," do you mean lower them all by one from the highest (like how I have them set now), or lower them all by one from the default middle position? I use the (infamous?) EX71s, which block out most sound, but music can obviously sound very different when I'm on a bus as opposed to lying in bed in a quiet hotel room. peace WaywardTraveller
  4. heheheh....yeah, bargaining is its own art, isn't it? Thankfully I stumbled on the electronics market in Urumqi and Kashgar (far western China), and even on the cusp of Central Asia you can buy an MZ-NH1 for about CAD260, no tax (is this a good price?). I usually tell them I can get it somewhere else slightly cheaper, and if they say no I just look somewhere else. peace WaywardTraveller
  5. Unfortunately, since I've been on the road for months now, my NHF800 is at home, and since China locks down all its net cafes so that you can't even use USB flash drives (let alone hook up a digital camera - seriously), I have/had no way of making sure for myself. peace WaywardTraveller
  6. If it helps, keep in mind that even if the NH600 adds track marks, you can always go back and Combine tracks that should be kept together. I don't have my manual on me, so I'm not sure if there's also a way to turn this auto track-mark off...? peace WaywardTraveller
  7. I second this. I will be in Singapore late November and would love to get in touch with this guy if what you say is true... guymrob: since you're in Singapore, maybe you can tell me....when I was last there, the Sony Store on the 3rd floor of Sim Lim Centre was selling 5-pks of Sony Color Collection 80min MDs for SD11 or so per box...do you know if they're still selling them? peace WaywardTraveller
  8. Yeah...strictly 220V. There's a CHN sticker on it, so it appears to be a Chinese edition (if such a thing exists?). Looks like it's voltage adaptor time...which is cool, as long as I know. Thanks Ishi peace WaywardTraveller
  9. bland: there are a few electronics shops around here that have some pretty good prices (I think)...there's a Panasonic model (can't recall the no.) with optical out that I can bargain down to Y600 (about CAD85) and possibly cheaper...it runs on two gumstick batteries, which is ok since I can get them here for about $3.50CAD each . But can you say offhand if this is a decent price for a portable CD-player with optical out, or should I try to bargain for a better price? The same place had some other Sony ATRAC models for slightly more money (I didn't try to bargain), but I figure that the Panasonic will suit me fine, as it's really only to record CDs on-the-road before I go home, and/or get rid of the SS restrictions on titling, etc. peace WaywardTraveller
  10. I used to think this until I bought my newest NH900 here in China. I usually use a custom setting with all meters raised for maximum gain...but after trying the Virtual Surround-Studio setting I find that, for some albums, detail and bass reverb are much, much improved. It can give *some* albums a very different listening experience! Not too keen on the Live/Arena/etc. settings, though. peace WaywardTraveller
  11. Jaylen, are you sure the NH700 can use the AM/FM tuner remotes? I have both the 700 and 800 and - unless I'm missing something - I recall the 800's remote as being incompatible with every other Hi-MD unit. peace WaywardTraveller
  12. Yeah...I was wondering, though, if it might just take longer to charge if 110V comes into the unit as opposed to 220V? I have a universal travel plug adaptor, so connecting it is no problem; I just don't want to compromise the charging and fry or otherwise break something... peace WaywardTraveller
  13. Happy Birthday Indeego! Have a great day! peace WaywardTraveller
  14. I checked the charging cradle for my new gold MZ-NH1 (bought in Beijing), and the power adaptor seems to be 220V, which is in keeping with Asian voltage (oddly enough, it seems to have rectangular North-American style prongs! ). My question is: if I plug this in to a North American wall-socket (110V), will it still work? Or do I need to buy a voltage adaptor to use it when I get back home? On a somewhat related topic....there wouldn't happen to be any LIP-4WM battery chargers out there, would there? peace WaywardTraveller
  15. I bought 2x10 of the TDK [WA]s and 2x10 of the Maxell Mono Tones from bland, and they arrived safe and sound. I have to agree...a pleasure to do business with this man! He gets extra marks from me for being so patient while I arranged payment from overseas through someone else...was kind enough to hold my product for me! peace WaywardTraveller
  16. Could be...but then again, why buy Hi-MD blanks from Sony Australia when you can go to http://www.minidisc.com.au and buy them for less than AUD5 each? I seriously doubt they're going to spontaneously increase this price. peace WaywardTraveller
  17. Since I'm on the road and don't have access to a computer where I can install SS, I was wondering if anyone could point me to a good (and hopefully cheap?) portable CD player with digital/optical out...not sure if these two are the same (err, does that make sense?); but I want/need a CD player that I can play into the line-in of my Hi-MD using the supplied Sony optical cable. If anyone can give me some models (or just tell me what to look for on the unit), that would be cool...I'll be in Bangkok and Singapore so I hope to pick one up relatively cheap. peace WaywardTraveller
  18. Well, funds being the way they are, I can't afford to buy this at the present time, so the offer's off the table...but if anyone has one they want to sell, feel free to PM me and maybe I will have the cash...who knows? peace WaywardTraveller
  19. Apologies if this isn't in the right place, but I thought I'd post some information on (Hi-)MD availability in Beijing in case anyone finds themselves there. Go to Zhongguancun Electronics Market....huge, Huge, HUGE place - a rabbit-warren of all kinds of electronics from computer parts to laptops to cameras to you name it and they have it! Yes....even minidisc! There are several buildings; I went to the one with the MacDonald's attached (sorry...I need to go by landmarks in China!). Just start asking around, especially where you see the Sony sign...many will end up taking you to the same stores when you ask about Hi-MD units, so it's all good. I found an NH900, but all you can get there by way of units is the NH1. Sony outlets will have the more insane prices (Y2000+...Y=Chinese RMB/Yuan), but I found one for much cheaper (Y1700 or so). Haggle like hell...that's the name of the game. Many of them won't want to; but there's some room to wander around and check out different sellers. In an adjacent building, you can also find LIP4WM batteries for Y120, but IME these can easily be bargained down to 100. RM-MC38EL remotes are also Y100 (new)...just look for them in display cases. In another adjacent market (can't remember the name, but it's on a street corner with Z--- Electronics Market in red English letters) you can get minidiscs for Y10...they don't even distinguish between 74min and 80min - I bought 9 of the blue TDK HOs for Y10 each (about CAD1.40). peace WaywardTraveller
  20. I'm in Beijing right now, and just bought an NH1 for CAD260 (no tax) at Zhongguancun Electronics Market. Got two spare LIP4WM batteries for Y100 each (about $14CAD each). They look absolutely new and will let you all know when I try them out. Incidentally, i also picked up a second NH900 for CAD240....and I find out that not only does it have that convenient little optical cable (does that normally come with the NH900?), but someone stuck in an MC40ELK remote with it as well! Add to that 9 blue TDK HO mindiscs at Y10 each (CAD1.40) and me happy. peace WaywardTraveller
  21. This product has also already been reviewed in Product Reviews/Pictorials -- http://forums.minidisc.org/index.php?showtopic=14874&hl= (there's another link at the botttom of that page as well.) peace WaywardTraveller
  22. I just bought two MC35ELK remotes (one silver, one blue) on Wangfujing Dajie in Beijing...Y250 (CAD35) each. peace WaywardTraveller
  23. I'm in Beijing and I just scooped two MC35ELKs at the RMB equivalent of CAD35 each...no tax. They work really well with the NH700, and I'm sure with all Hi-MD models. One silver, one blue....(didn't even know they had blue!) peace WaywardTraveller
  24. Bought musicman's gold NH1 - very quick, easy, and efficient transaction...and extra kudos to musicman for being patient with me while I got my brother to pay for it on my behalf! Pleasure doin' business with ya! peace WaywardTraveller
  25. Well, tomorrow is my last day here before I take the train to Mongolia...I might be able to make it there tomorrow morning one last time. Yes, the chanting was unamplified...it was fairly loud, though, and steady. I thought I'd use line-in because I always thought it was a cleaner channel than mic-in. the mic batteries have rarely been used, and I always take them out of the mic and store them separately when not in use. And yes, I always use Manual volume. Thanks for the advice...I will definitely keep it in mind! peace WaywardTraveller
