For me, and at least one other person that I know, it does not consistently work w/ my HiMD units. It works w/ everything else. I went all the way to 3rd or 4th level support with no resolution. After going back and forth several times, I am using it, primarily because the Dynamic Playlist feature works great w/ my HDD. I will just have to rely on my library of HiMD discs to get me through.

I'd just be happy if it worked w/ my HiMD units. I'm just surprised they're talking about 3.4, considering we've been expecting SS to be replaced by Connect. Maybe since Connect doesn't support MD, they'll continue to put out maintenance releases of SS for MD units. I've been wondering what they are doing to do about software support for MD if they continue to release them... I was hoping that maybe they'd make a simple utility for uploading, rather than the full-blown SS w/ Connect, etc. that it has become. A utility more for musicians, audio geeks, etc. etc. who are using MD for self-recording purposes.

Thanks - I did try installing the latest version of Directx from the Microsoft site, and I'm still having the same problem. I'm going to try and call the Sony Support line today (I was given the number from the guy on the Sony Chat Forum). If I can't get this resolved, I'm perilously close to dumping MD for everyday listening (but keeping it for recording). This sucks, as I just got a MZ-NHF800 to add to my large collection of MD units. But if I can't use the latest version of the software (and I can't go back to 3.2 because I would not be able to use my Connect tunes) - then I'm up a creek. Just got off the phone w/ Sony - I ultimately reached the highest level of support, and as I suspected, they couldn't help me (because as far as they knew, no one else has had this problem). I will say that everyone was very nice, but it is frustrating to know more about a product than the support people for that product. The last bit of advice I was given was to "make sure I was specifying that everything be transferred as ATRAC, because SS can only transfer ATRAC to the 600D" which is of course, correct, but as we know, SS will transocde non-ATRAC files to ATRAC. So I didn't really argue w/ him and at that point gave up. One very interesting thing - they said that maybe I should wait for "SonicStage 3.4"

Oh. OK. I believe the only way you can accomplish what you are trying to accomplish is to import a playlist (*.m3u or whatever) - then it should come across as a group (as well as by artist and album). I would try a very small test first though.
-
"Import" - "Music File" and select all files in a given folder, OR "Import" - "Scan Folder"

Try taking the battery out.

No, RealPlayer will not work with the NW HD5. You should not have any problems using SS w/ this unit - unless by POS you are referring to its lack of features (as opposed to technical problems).

I noticed that the only version you can install from the web is now 3.3 - so I think I'm screwed as far as Connect is concerned (I installed 3.2 from the stand-alone version here on the site). But it is not the Connect version...

Sorry - don't use one. I've also used the last several versions of SS and its predecessors without issue. There is a bug in SS 3.3 - several people have reported it. Not everyone will experience it, but the fact that many have means there is a problem. Here is the helpful response I received from Sony. "Thank you for contacting Sony Online Support. We apologize that you are not completely satisfied with your Sony product. Each new generation of products will include enhancements and features to suit the changing needs of our customers. We appreciate the time you have taken to share your comments with us. It is important that we receive this feedback from our customers so that we may better serve you in the future."

Don't have a PSP, but have had this problem with all of my MD units - so bad that I had to revert to 3.2. I thought installing the US version would help, but it didn't. I emailed Sony support, but of course I might as well email my 80-year-old mother for all of the good that will do.
-
I'll be interested to see if this problem is resolved w/ the official US/North American release. I thought maybe it was a USB issue, but I've reverted back to 3.2 and am having no problems. Unfortunately, it has not been resolved with the official US release. Same problem. I am not happy.

I installed SS 3.3 a couple of days ago - and have had major problems. About half of my transfer attempts hang - and I have to crash SS. I did two clean re-installs, uninstalled my HiMD device, etc. etc. all to no avail. Finally went back to 3.2 and all seems to be OK again. I've never had this kind of problem w/ previous versions of SS and have been using it for many years. Anyone else experience this w/ 3.3?
-
I'm afraid I've had nothing but problems since I installed this version - problems I've never had w/ any previous version of SS. Out of 5-7 attempted transfers (HiSP "as-is") - only two have worked - the rest have locked up and I've had to bring down SS w/ CTRL+ALT+DEL. I've tried two different units, and several different disks, as well as reinstalling. So beware. EDIT - It may be limited to the Dynamic Playlist function...

After reading your post, I tried to remove the battery from my 900 (I too am suffering from this "rare" problem). Unbelievably, I also had to resort to plyers to remove the battery (which was destroyed in the process). I then plugged it in, grabbed a standard MD (w/ no tape), hit record, and voila! - I can now record w/ no problem. Of course, I destroyed a $25 battery in the process.
-
UMD player/recorder.... I'd buy that in a second.

I love the MD format, but I agree, Sony has never done a good job of promoting it. (Unfortunately, Apple beats them hands down on that count.)
-
I use it to play at very low volumes (background music) on non-powered speakers.

What bad English? You could probably get a job teaching English in the States.

What I should have said was - have to take it out of the case to see the screen - track info, etc. etc. The Zen of course does not have cool remotes like Sony devices... though it looks like the remotes for these new HDDs do not have LCDs.
-
If we're looking at the front, looks like they made the same mistake Creative did w/ the 1st generation case for the Zen - namely, no window - have to take it out of the case to use it.
-
Good advice.

Agreed. In fact, I think most people still think that MD can only be used to do real-time recording - i.e. - hook up your CD player to a deck, press "play" and "record."
