Well erf. That sounds more complicated than I would like just to play it.

Wait. There's still PSO servers? If that's so then I'll make the effort to get my DC hooked up to the internet.

Didn't Iraq invade Syria in the 90's? Or are you referring to the here and now? On the subject of gay marriage... IMO marriage is defined as the coupling of a man and a woman, so I don't think there should be marriages for gays per se, however a civil union between same sexes that grant them all the same rights and privledges as married couples would be nice. I'd be content with that.

Aye. They've been out in the west coast Fry's for a few months now. Also they should be selling 1GB discs as well for $6.99.

THANK YOU. This is my biggest reason NOT to vote for Bush. It's amazing that people really have forgotten what was the orignal reason. WMD? Oh well... it seems we made a mistake Ties to Al qaeda? Whoops, our bad. But hey, at least Saddam is no longer in power, right?

I personally have not ran into any problems with it so far. I mean, it is bloated and rather slow. I really wish they'd come out with a smaller program that just transfers music to your MD unit, instead of doing all this "library" management, which I don't even use. As soon as a song is transferred to my 505, I delete the SS files in my library so it stays empty. Otherwise I haven't grown angry at it. I used OpenMG jukebox for quite some time, so IMO SonicStage (2.whatever) is a HUGE improvement and a blessing. (Even since most of my use of OpenMG JB was just for TITLING tracks. It was a common occurance with me for OpenMG to crash just for the hell of it. Same with SS 1.5)

I know, I was just being a jack ass. I'm not saying that it's worthless to buy a deck, however I'm just stating that the improvements of deck recording vs. portable isn't that great. I've been trying to find a deck myself, but like... they all suck. Maybe if the MDS-JE480 had a Control-A1 jack... Bleh. One day I swear I shall own a ES MD deck. >__<

Hm. Well despite the fact that there are no proper ABX tests done between the two, if you ask Sony for their definition of WBS (Wide Bit Stream), they'll tell you: "The input circuit, the output circuit and their peripheral circuits operate on the 20-bit audio data so that the maximum performance of the ATRAC IC which operates on 20-bit and higher can be fully utilized." Hmmmm.... let's take a look at Sony's online glossary of WBS: "Conventional MiniDisc playback is done with 16-bit signal processing, WBS technology increases the rate to 18-bit or higher. This results in more accurate playback of even subtle sound signals, and greatly improves the signal to noise ratio." HmmMMMMmm.... well, assuming that they do mean playback on other MD devices, such as MD players you'd need to look at the definition of WBS processing: "Refinements to the ATRAC processor of the MiniDisc format have enabled signal resolution to match 20 bit processing, increasing the ability to express subtle, low level details that would otherwise be lost. "Block Floating" processing elevates these signals above the cut-off threshold and returns them to their original level upon playback." ...so, MD players that do not posses WBS processing as well as "Block Floating processing" are still able to "elevate [the] signals above the cut-off threshold and [return] them to their orignal level upon playback"? Hm. Oh yes, the fact that they run on uninterrupted AC. Too bad portable MD recorders don't come with some sort of AC jack on them to make use of an adaptor....

Interesting thoughts, although most audiophiles do not care about "caputing a great performance", but more or less to recreate a great performance, using their playback equipment. As for "Hi-MD sucks" statements, it's all personal opinion really. It depends on what you want to use it for. I doubt it really excels at a playback device, however as a recording medium it holds it's ground. (Despite the fact of the DRM in place etc.) O/T, I don't understand your reasoning for this. The encoder chip present in a JB920 is the same that's in any Type-S portable. The only real differences are the ADC and DAC's in the deck, which are obviously better than any portable, however if you're doing digital dubs, there is no need for either one, so it's moot.
-
I don't see how it was scamming people. They didn't state that they were Hi-MD discs, but rather were just 80 min MDs that had a sticker saying that they are compatible with Hi-MD, and then went on to list the time for each recording format. Hmmm... I probably shouldn't mention that I can walk 3 blocks down the street to Fry's and find 20+ Hi-MD discs on the shelves.

I eat ramen and shop at the dollar store not because I blew my paycheck on a new pair of 'phones, but because I have to. All of my audio stuff was bought before I moved out of my parents house, however I was able to eventually save up enough money to build/buy myself a new computer, although I couldn't afford to replace my 5 year old CRT. :rasp: I should move back in with my mother, then I can spend all my monies on 'phones, amps, etc.
-
No one I know cares enough about MD, so it's sort of moot. The only question I answer is what it is, and then mid-sentence they stop listening. For awhile though my roomie, who bought a MZ-NH900 was asking me questions about it, but I pointed him in the direction of the intarweb, and now he has all the answers he needs. :rasp:

Even trade: my SCD-C222ES for your MDS-JA333ES. (Just kidding..... UNLESS YOU WANT TO TRADE! )

Questions/Comments for Marc's uploading utility.

Yeah, that totally blew. BleemCast came out and I was able to play 2 games: GT2 and Metal Gear Solid. :whatever: -
Edirol says $550. Frankly the point of removable media for this device is moot, considering that you'd have time to take what you recorded off of the device and onto a computer considering you'll be in need of charging the battery anyways.
-
The R50 certainly has some heft to it. It's nice to open it up and see that all of the inards are made from metal as well. Best construction of '97. (That's when my unit was manufactured anyways. ) Zombie, your R50 lacks recording ability right? (Or has it gotten worse. )

I will most likely be buying a MZ-NH3D. (Despite looking at, and listening to a few DAPs. They're just not my bag.) Well, I don't actually know. It's either going to be a domestic MZ-NH1, or a NH3D. The NH1 is only $30 more or so, but now that I have a decent computer as well as a 1,000+ collection of FLAC files, real-time recording isn't fast enough for me anymore. So the optical and mic in is of no use. (I can always get the lowest end unit with optical in for cheap later on if I REALLY need it.) Also, IMO the NH1's LCD screen on the unit looks like a joke to me. The NH3D is "sleeker". :rasp:

Okay... I found my old SS 1.506 installer disc, I now have 2 musical samples, both recorded in LP2 using SS 1.506, as well as SS 2.101. (Both were recorded via my soundcard's line-in, using the headphone out of a MZ-N505, hacked to give a fake line-out.) Now.. where do I send these? I don't have any webspace to host them myself.
-
I heard in the past how terrible SS encoded LP2 was, but after doing my own comparisons, I find that I was unable to discern the differences between the two different encoding methods when using SS 2.1 and an N505 (Type R), so I'm making the assumption that SSLP2 pre-2.0 was terrible, and the new versions of SS have improved. I am curious to know exactly how improved though. Is it even possible to download the earlier versions of SS?
-
Oi. I know how you feel. >__< Last year my N707 died, and the next week I was in such dire need of a new recorder that I traded 3 PS2 games to my room mate for his N505.
-
MZ-R50. Oh, but I imagine I'm a wee bit biased. (Also sometime in Oct. I'm going to buy my friend's MZ-R37 for like $20. She uses a N410 now, so she has no more use for it. I figure why not. Maybe I'll do some comparisons for the hell of it. :rasp: ) One SP-only unit I've had my eye on is the MZ-E35. I love the stylings of it (or lack thereof).

Yet another HiMD wish which Sony should of thought of
Hyena replied to kickingVegas's topic in Minidisc
 Bastard! I stand corrected. (I figured Apple/Belkin would think of such a device, but I was too lazy to search for it. ) Well, it still requires you to purchase a "custom device" to quote kickingVegas, and it's more expensive. :whatever: (Personally though, I'd go with it more than Sony's alternative. ) -

I don't know, why should you? You're the one that wants to transfer files from your digital camera to a HiMD device. Something tells me that's shouldn't be a big selling point for HiMD. While I'm really trying to see your point here, I honestly don't see why you're complaining. Adding connectivity between Sony devices is wishful thinking, not really something worthwhile to implement. How many Sony devices could make good, real world use of that connectivity? Maybe you should've bought an "Apple" digital camera and transferred files from that to an iPod, or maybe an HP camera and.... wait, none of them have that capability at all, do they? -

Ask and you shall recieve. Booyah. Full story here: http://www.akibalive.com/archives/000565.html (Sadly, I believe it only works with the NH1 or NH3D) -
There's a ghetto in Birmingham?! Anyways, I know exactly where you're coming from. If car audio enthusiasts were serious, wouldn't they stick to 1 or 2 subs, instead of 14? Where's the high and mid-ranges? :wacky: We have plenty of people like that 'round here in Sacramento, CA. So much so that the CHP has decibel ratings on what is, and what isn't legal.
