  1. ^ Why does everyone need to upgrade to Hi-MD? It's not necessary. :whatever: (Edit: You should note that Sony is releasing new MD players, and not recorders. If a consumer wants a MD player, why should they spend $329 for a HiMD player, or spend $199 for a low-end HiMD unit? ) Anyways, the E630 is hot. Victor's units have always struck me as ugly, although the S51 is nice.
  2. Hrm, I believe I prefer my Alpine HU and Infinity component system than the tape deck and paper speakers that came in my '87 Volvo.
  3. EDIT: Read your post wrong. No, it won't be loud no matter what, it just drives the subwoofer. IIRC you can adjust the volume of the amp via your head unit, my Alpine has a bass volume control. Basically if you want more bass, then crank up the bass on your headunit.
  4. Yes, you need an amp for a subwoofer, unless it's like a boomtube with it's own amp built in. I don't know what you mean by "how long your car battery would last". When the car is running, it's the alternator that supplies your car with power, not the battery. The battery is used for start-up only (as well as supplying power while the car is off) Anyways, you need to check how many amps your alternator is, to see if it can take the stress of an amp, although with a 120 watt sub, I think you'll be alright.
  5. I think that MD player is gorgeous. The slot-in loading is so awesome.
  6. Damn no edit button. I forgot to ask, also what are you using to rip the tracks?
  7. Have you tried going from CD-SS, instead of CD-WAV-SS? Just go into SS and record the CD via the "Record A CD" function. This works for me, I have Pink Floyd's DSOTM as well as some Trance CDs on MD and they're completely gapless.
  8. No solution for Simple Burner, but you can use Sonic Stage 2.1 (www.connect.com) and transfer tracks that way, as SS does do gapless recording when the CD is gapless.
  9. My MZ-N505 does it all the time, I personally see no harm in it. I've been letting the unit eject discs like that ALL the time, and I've seen no detrimental effects, however this isn't a Hi-MD, so I could be wrong, and it could be totally screwing up the disc to have it spinning while it gets ejected (Discs shouldn't spin! ) My MZ-R50 doesn't do this, probably because I actually have to hit stop, and wait for the optical block to return to its "resting position" before it actually opens.
  10. Posted this over at the T-board, but I figure I'll post it here as well. -MZ-R50, near mint, with the exception of a few hair-thin scratches on the LCD, and a small "nick" the size of a pen tip on the upper corner on the front of the unit, and then a 1" scratch on the rear of the unit. Very noticeable at one angle, not so noticable at others. Original box, all manuals, documents, and accessories included. Will include replacement LIP-8 as well. Second owner, works flawlessly, I've personally used the record feature for less than 2 hrs. No idea how much the previous owner (tbdoah at the T-board) used it to record, but most likely the same amount of time, if not far less. Please PM me with any reasonable offers. Also: -SCD-C222ES, Sony ES CD/SACD player. Near-mint condition, save for a scratch on the display, as well as a scratch on the top of the deck, on the right side. Comes with the deck only, no accessories or documents. $200 + shipping. Thanks for looking. I've run into money problems as of late, and I need to pay off some debts, and the goodies have to go
  11. No idea who you got your information from NRen, but the magnetic head is used for writing only. The lense reads, the magnetic head writes. Simple enough. In fact, if you look at a pre-recorded MD, there is a shutter on only 1 side of the disc, which is the same side where the optics of the MD are present. t10, as for your question as to why the MD is still able to erase the TOC, it's possible that there might be an uninterrupted current going to the magnetic head, causing the rearraging of the TOC, which is located prior to any audio data, right after the lead-in area on the farthest in area of the disc. Complete disconnection or removal of the magnetic head should solve any problems with erasure, but eliminate any ability to write.
