  1. Throw, yes, my english not very good sorry (right, give me a break will you). You don't get my point. I know it's a player and i know the thread says recorder but the point is saying a recorder has good SQ when you're just refering to it's playback quality is just like saying it's a good player, hence my comment about why not just say my DS77 sound great. So to factor out the irrelevant variables, i am asking for solely RECORDING sound quality. Makes a lot more sense than asking what recorder has good SQ in general.
  2. You should specify that only the RECORDING circuitry be considered in terms of SQ. Because now people start mentionning sharp auvi units because of it's digital amp that has nothing to do with the recording quality. I might as well throw in my DS77 and say the SQ is pretty good, and people would start agreeing even though it's just a player. Now, can some veteran tell us, what is the ultimate in SQ in terms of recording?
  3. I'd like to add the Alessandro MS-1 which might come off better than grado SR-60 and maybe even SR-80 for cheaper if you're from outside of US, and you can get it with 3.5mm minijack too. Grado charge ridiculous price for international buyers through their distribution network. http://www.alessandro-products.com/headphones.html
  4. There is still a very good reason as to why buy an older generation mdlp player instead of hi-md: battery life. The few last mdlp players' battery life can kick hi-md ass to the moon and back and still have juice for more. Anyways, i get the impression that this bitrate crippling is only software, so why hasn't anybody come up with a hack that will let us transfer true SP through net-md? I also heard that net-md LP2 is also bitrate crippled compared to real-time optical LP2. I saw a thread back that listed all the bitrates, can somebody point it out again?
  5. Do you mean the K 81 DJ? They are closed, how do they compare to the open grados and ksc75?
  6. Do you mean the MDR-V150? I tried them and they sounded like music was being played inside a tin can. I don't have an audiophile ear but it doesn't take an audiophile ear to realise this. Horrible.
  7. Indeed. I've had experience with both fake gumsticks bought on ebay from guys in hongkong or china and original gumsticks and it not only makes a big difference in terms of battery life for a charge but also the original ones will be able to go through more recharge cycles, and they don't bloat up the way fake ones do. Watch out guys, don't charge fake batteries in your unit, use an external charger. Fake ones have cheap separators inside, if slightly damaged, when you recharge instead of charging up your battery would short curcuit internally, heat up, and expand. First time i didn't know about that, after an overnight charging, the fake gumstick expanded so much it didn't want to come out of my sharp mt877 anymore. That's the last time i'm buying batteries off ebay. I don't see why you guys complain about gumstick batteries and wish you had AA instead when all the models using gumsticks have external AA battery cases for you to extend battery life anyways. It's a good solution for those who don't want the extra weight AND for those who want the extra battery life.
  8. no power adaptor? charge only through usb? this is too dependant on computers
  9. I'm pretty sure that's a problem with the charging circuitry of your unit. I have a unit like that too that doesn't detect it very well, but i tried charching the battery with an external charger and it greatly extended the autonomy of my battery. It's not a problem with the battery itself. I have one battery that's four years old and i can still get half it's original life. Which i find is still pretty decent, considering that it's four years old.
  10. No way you'd find AA battery in a high end unit. Too ugly, too bulky. The add on AA case, like it has always been done, is the way to go.
  11. Is jesus dead? No, he'll resurrect after 3 days battling ipods and apples (you know, the instrument of the devil, the fruit of temptation) in hell. Blessed be those who believe without having see.
  12. You can use them, there was one that came with a player i bought from ebay and it worked okay. It's just that it seems to discharge faster than original ones when not in use. Overall, they'll last you for not very long. And i don't think it's worth it. You can find genuine ones that cost just as cheap than getting fake ones from ebay (with their outrageous shipping prices). Try here: http://www.goldmine-elec-products.com/prod...aitem=3&mitem=5
  13. I've been scammed on fake sony gumsticks before and i can tell you they ARE dangerous for your unit. Once i charged mine inside the unit, it was cheap quality, the internal separator of the battery was probably punctured, so that when i charged, it was shorting the battery inside and instead of charge separation it was just "cooking" the battery. When the battery cooks, it inflates. I left it overnight, the next morning my unit played for like an hour and then said low battery. I tried to take the battery out but it was so inflated it didn't come out from my MD. I got it out after great effort and a big sweat. I tell you, really dangerous. If it had expanded more, it would have cracked my unit open, or exploded altogether. Now i charge my batteries with an external charger just in case. Don't trust those chinese fakes. Even if they are a tenth of the price, it's not worth risking.
  14. well, if you could make the two lasers small enough and put them side by side, it would fit into one hole. Not that i support this kind of thing.
  15. The grey one is nice. Didn't like the white ones that came before it.
  16. I don't think he meant it was impossible, he meant that it's impossible to do it and still keep the same laser pickup to keep it backward compatible. Sure you can do what you just described, but then it wouldn't read the old MDs. Anyways, i don't care about larger capacity. Beats the purpose of having removable media. Except for live recording purposes, i don't hear the difference between SP and PCM in casual portable listening.
  17. Forget kanji support, what about unicode? I don't see what half the world would do with kanji and without unicode. I don't care much about the recorders, just make good decks at home with all the unimaginable options you guys want, and make a really lean player that focuses on sound quality, durability, light and compact, with the longest battery life ever in any kind of players. That would own. All the other stuff are a bit trivial. I'm still using an old st-77 mdlp player and everything there still makes sense.
  18. I'll just trust my ears on this. When i went to the boutique i also tried out the sr-125 but couldn't tell the difference on the spot so there's a limit to how much i'd spend for subtleties. Given it was quite loud in the shop but bah, no regrets. Besides, anything higher than the sr-80 wont come with a minijack, so no plugging it to minidisc so the hell with it. But man, now that i got the grado, i just realise the amp of my minidisc is better than a lot of shit out there. Just the mod for the ear cushions are enough, seems like the sennheiser 414 earpads are like 4USD, not that costy, but i can't order if from sennheiser website cause it doesn't ship to canada. I'll have to go ask around boutiques again, hate the bother.
  19. Powered by your own sex-appeal when wearing these! Or not. There's nothing wrong with wires people! Stop complicating your lives. The transmitter is one more dangling thing you have to carry. I wont be convinced till they reduce the size of that thing by 10x and that it wouldn't require batteries to operate.
  20. Ye, thanks, i'll check them out.
  21. Yeah. The sr-60 are ugly and sound good, just that they were ugly in a special way, like a made-in-communist-russia-for-one-kopek-each-with-technology-from-the-40' kind of ugly, which is hip in its own way. The sr-40 just look plain cheap.
  22. I just bought a grado sr-60 and they sound great but the ear cushion is the suxxor and aren't really comfortable for long listening periods. I was wondering if i could mod them with other ear cushions. Nothing crazy and expensive, these are "only" the sr-60 so it's not worth churning out too much money. I hear some people modded theirs with sennheiser cushions but i don't know which model to pick. Can someone help?
  23. I thought maybe someone could make a sticky and explain for us noobs what all these types mean.
  24. I've been away for some time and isn't quite up to date. I hear people talking about umd and himd as if they were based on the same technology. Does anyone actually have technical papers to prove that they are? Cause i think it's more different than just an md in a different shell.
