  1. my brother has a black one, and the lcd is definitely not backlit and its like the smallest lcd screen i've ever seen on an md (except units that have no screen). i've only seen the orange one in the store, but from the looks of it i'd say that its not backlight as well. since no screen has ever been backlit til hi-md. i would say, as you can tell from your picture, the orange is a bit easier to see than my brothers black but not much better. you looking to buy one or something? i saw one on clearance for $40 the other day. and for $40 it really isn't a bad machine, with 5 more discs for like $7-8 these days
  2. i'm trying to remember back to sonic stage 1.5...did they have the back up tool yet? i would've assumed when you install version 3.2 it'll detect you have an older version of sonic stage and tell you its gonna remove that one and import your files to the new version. i guess that'd be too easy. i've had trouble in the past trying to move .omg files that were made with sonic stage before version 3. do the files still play in sonic stage? if they don't play, but still show in your library they may not actually be there. i've been fooled by that before. and naturally if they're not there, you can't do anything with them.
  3. i think everyone realized this already. unfortunately, due to usb 1.1 and write speeds of minidisc (not sure which one limits the transfer speed more) copying mp3s to hi-md in data mode takes quite a bit of time. using sonic stage is much faster, but like we know, you'd need sonic stage to play it on a computer. too bad you can't load sonic stage onto a hi-md disc as data and run it from the hi-md and still be able to access the recorded music. that'd be pretty cool. did you all also know that with hi-md the music played back through the computer's speakers??
  4. ...or just line in to your computer to skip the uploading.
  5. you will still be able to use sonic stage with the next windows next year, no? obviously just wouldn't use connect.
  6. i don't see why you won't be able to continue to use sonic stage? the automated tracklisting data will continue to be supported, its not just for sonic stage. other programs use that same service, one i use is a program called 'replay music' that records streaming music and splits tracks and titles them. so as long as you have internet service or sonic stage burned to a cd you can always reinstall it if you need to and keep on using it as you do now. correct me if i'm wrong, but don't see why not
  7. you don't have to keep the files on just one computer. hi-md atrac files (.omg?) uploaded from hi-md or recorded to md with sonic stage 3.2 can be transferred between different different computers with sonic stage 3.2 installed on it. when i tried it, it said i could register up to 5 computers on my account and they'll work on those five, but i think that was referring to connect purchased songs. someone told me these files should be able to play on any computer with sonic stage 3.2 with drm restrictions, like mp3s almost. i tried transferring .oma files from previous versions of sonic stage but they do have drm restrictions and can't be transferred.
  8. for those of you that never converted and don't intend to go to hi-md, minidisc has basically been shut down a couple years ago. other then a few low-end models there's been no new units, and those have basically been just new colors of old models. part of the reason minidisc is on the way out is because those many loyal minidisc users that never bought their new hi-md units. nah, i'm just joking, but it kinda makes sense. i don't know how many old md users never went hi-md anyway. all i'm upset about with the end of minidisc possibly in sight is not having new models to look forward to and be excited about. thats probably the majority of our feelings, because we all had to know minidisc's time was coming to an end. but now for us yet...
  9. i read an article that said Sony was planning on revealing their new product lines by the end of next year, but i assume someone knows what product lines those'll be.
  10. well, this was much ado about nothing...no news at all really. just "bla, bla, bla...." just make us some newer, better, less expensive hi-md portables and car decks
  11. doesn't seem that there was any news on the minidisc scene
  12. if and when new minidisc units stop being made it will hardly mean the end of the minidisc world...at least for many years. i think of it like this: i've got a '93 Volkswagen and there are lots of people that still love the car and buy them and fix them up, even though they're old cars with a lot of miles and so on. to many people there won't be anything they like more than minidisc and will always use minidisc, even as it becomes further behind in technology. discs and new units will continue to be available for a long time via ebay and other retailers. the only sad part is we may not get new units to finally get the ultimate player/recorder that we dream of. but since when did sony make that such player anyway??
  13. I haven't purchased a hi-md model yet. I have a sony minidisc stereo in my car that plays the MDLP 2/4. I know that the hi-mds also have LP2 as well as with the new 3+, etc. I was wondering if the LP2 recorded from hi-md players would be able to play as LP2 in MDLP players. My guess is that it wouldn't because the discs are formatted for hi-mds, but both are called LP2 so i was curious. Does anyone know or tried it out yet? thanks.
