I dig my 40ELK for the most part, but lately it's been getting funky. At first, it looked like a couple rows/columns of pixels were dead. Now it seems like more than half are on the fritz. It's to the point where sometimes I can't make out what's printed on the screen. I haven't read of anyone else having the problem though, so I think it's probably just a fluke. Aside from that, it's definitely a slick remote.

You've got to be high or have a metric assload of disposable income to spend that much on a portable. A solid brass player would be an interesting novelty item, if you didn't have to sell your first-born's soul to get one.

I admit that if it weren't for my recording needs and (admittedly irrational) love for removable media, I wouldn't have even considered Hi-MD. It's sad that a few substantial positives can be totally nuked in the nuts by a bunch of annoyances .

It's sort of off-topic for this thread, but initially I had problems with Sonic Stage causing bluescreens on my machine (running WinXP). Once I installed XP SP2, those bluescreens seemed to stop. Might be something to check out if it applies to you. Cheers.

Just to clarify, when you're in manual mode you can adjust the level on the fly while recording. You don't have to be paused. This has been discussed in other threads, but it's important enough to repeat. You have to be paused to switch from AGC to manual, but once there you can tweak to your heart's content while recording.

It's plenty loud enough for me too. I keep the volume somewhere between 15 and 20 on my Shure E3's. Below 15 is usually a bit too quiet for me, but anything over 20 gives me visions of going deaf at a young age .

They could have done the whole thing much easier: 'Hey, want a totally free new Connect CD? Ha ha, just kidding! :rasp: '

I wasn't sure what the 'loud music' setting really did, honestly. I tend to be one of those 'screw around first, read the manual if you have a problem' people. I knew I wanted a manual recording level, so I'd capture the dynamics changes during the show. But I just went and picked 'for loud music', low mic sensitivity, and then chose manual so I could adjust the recording level on the fly. If the 'for loud music' setting was trumped by choosing a manual recording level, that makes sense . I just wanted to test things out and figured I'd do the actual reading later if necessary. I ended up with a pretty good quality recording anyway though! :ohmy: I do apologize for giving some flawed information though. While I tend to mess around prior to reading manuals, I do usually make sure to read before I post somewhere. Now I've gone and immortalized my misconceptions. Ah well, you win some, you lose some...

I've only taped one concert so far with the NH1 (my first taped concert ever, actually), and I wasn't really expecting much. I got Sony's T-mic and used low mic sensitivity, the 'for loud music' setting, and manual recording volume which I tweaked during the sound check and kept an eye on for the first song or two. I used Hi-SP because I only had one disc and I expected the concert to run well over the hour and a half I could have fit using PCM. The result was quite passable (especially for a first try), with no distortion from the loud parts. I really can't complain, but I want to get another show or two taped before I draw any reliable conclusions. Hopefully a short show, so that PCM is feasible. Note: I'm obviously not a professional at this sort of thing, so my standards may be lower than yours .

I will be able to give some impressions later in the week, as I'm planning on recording a concert tomorrow night and hopefully at least one more over the weekend. I had originally wanted to make PCM recordings, but I know for at least tomorrow night that 1.5 hours isn't going to be close to sufficient. In the battle between switching discs part-way through a concert and just recording in Hi-SP, Hi-SP wins. Hopefully I'll get a PCM recording over the weekend since the shows I'll be seeing should be fairly short. And damn it, let's see some more Hi-MD blanks around!

I installed SS 2.1 last week when my NH1 arrived, and Simple Burner 2 shortly afterwards. Haven't had any problems so far!

Aye, I thought the phone # issue was weird too. I haven't lived in a place with a physical phone line for almost two years, and this is the first time there's even been a minor issue with it. I was more confused than anything . I didn't receive a tracking number or shipment notification by E-Mail either. When I called to take care of the phone number problem, the customer service chick just said the order was going out that day. I took her word for it .
