Donna, I was just getting ready to do that this weekend. Did you notice the second pinned category in this forum (NetMD + MDLP)? If not, then here is what I am trying: 1) Get one male-to-male cable to go from headphone (or if you're lucky, Line Out) jack on your minidisc player. The other end goes into your sound card. Both ends should be 1/8". If you will be doing more recording in non Hi-MD, I would recommend gold plated plugs. They cost a little more, but are supposed to be better. 2) Turn up volume all the way (so I was told). 3) Find a recording software. I have an Audigy2 which will record a Wav file. I also did buy Total Recorder. It's my understanding that the Total Recorder can convert the file into an MP3 or other codec. My guess is that if you make an MP3, you will be able to import it into Sonic Stage. 4) Press record on your software, play on your minidisc. This is strictly an analogue recording, so however long your minidisc is, it will take the same amount of time transfering. I would recommend not using your pc for anything else during this time. Good Luck Weaves

This may not be exactly true. Here is a link to an NPR audio clip discussing iTunes playing favorites. http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=4473363 If it doesn't work, go to NPR.org and type in shuffle iTunes for the search. Weaves

Kurisu (or anyone?) We've made it past CES in Vegas, and the CES(sp?) in Germany. Still no word on other Hi-MD models from Sharp, Kenwood, Aiwa, etc. Does anyone know anything about other makers Hi-MD models? The reason I'm asking is that I was just going to get the MZ-RH10 from Datavis from $239. However, I'm now seeing MP-3 models that have color screen OLED's. So now, I'm thinking of playing the waiting game until the end of the year. Thanks Weaves p.s. At this point I'll even take rumours and speculation!

Ranwill, I think I would go for the MZ-RH910 from Datavis. For only $179.00 it seems like a steal. See the following: 1) I have not seen the NH900 drop down as much as I thought it would by this point. 2) Here are the first pics and detail of the MZ-RH910: http://forums.minidisc.org/index.php?showtopic=9083 3) I believe the MZ-RH10 is only $239. This is pre-order only for the moment. Good Luck Weaves

BroMatt, Aiwa is coming with their 2005 in-dash receiver models. they have an auxillary jack on the face of the receiver. It seems as though you will be able to get a male to male plug from Radio Shack, and plug your minidisc (or any portable player) right into the receiver. This may be the way future receivers go, to keep them open ended for the portable markets. Weaves

aeriyn said "Of course, if Sony would either integrate with iTunes" Now that's the funniest thing I ever heard. RealPlayer approached ITunes with the same idea. Jobs wanted nothing to do with them. With the exception of native MP3 playback, Apple is just as restrictive as Sony. Jobs wants all IPod users to only use ITunes.

Hello, I just received my Shure e3's and they sound great. However, I did more research and discovered headphone amps. They even have tiny ones made just for portable audio units. Does anyone use these with their md players and headphones? I have a MZ-N707. Thanks Weaves

Sorry People (Kurisu, are you male or female?), Let me explain a little more clearly. 1) I was using the MXD-D5C since 2001 and perfectly happy with it at the time. For those CD's that had CD Text, all track and album titles moved over flawlessly. However, there were fewer CD's than I thought with CD Text. Therefore, I had to manually type in all others. Not bad (for the times) when using the keyboard attachment. Nowadays, it seems like more work since all software programs copy titles and more (groups) to the disc. 2) Noting #1 above, I never needed to create a library on my PC, since all my recordings were done from CD's I owned directly to the MD's using LP2. So there is no need to worry about moving any library. 3) I was thinking about making the jump to Hi-MD. Therefore, I would start thinking about using SS 2.3 for my transferrring needs. However, I don't want to take up alot of storage space on my 120 gb hard drive with my 500+ cd's. This is why I wanted to use a new USB hard drive. So I would use SS 2.3 from my C: drive and store on the USB drive. 4) Noting #3 above. However, what I was wondering was: would SS 2.3 let me copy (transfer) my songs from my USB drive to my Hi-MD discs (two USB's at once)? I do have an output for MD on my Audigy2, not sure if that would be useful. 5) My other option would be to transfer songs to C: library, then transfer to Hi-MD, then remove from library. I don't like this, in case I want to make different mixes down the line. These are the kinds of issues I have before I decide to upgrade to Hi-MD. Of course, if the theory is true that they can create 2GB, 5GB, or even 10GB using current units, I would upgrade in a heartbeat. Thanks again for all of your work on the board.

Hello, I am an old MD user, but new to SS. I had been using my MXD-D5C since about Jan-2001 ( purchased at a low price of $199 ). I followed Kurisu's instructions and was able to install from 2.x (either 2.0 or 2.1) up to 2.3 with no problems. Kudo's to Kurisu . Now I have the following questions: 1) I was thinking about storing my files on an external hard drive. I know i can change the folder in SS 2.3. Has anyone done this? 2) Are there any problems with SS 2.3 recognizing multiple USB devices at one time? 3) Is it possible for future versions of SoniceStage to improve over the current optical transfer? I know that using my optical output to any MD unit seems to provide better quality than SS 2.3 (per Dex). Then I can just enter the names using SS 2.3. This is easier than using the keyboard on the MXD-D5C. Thanks Weaves Note: I may be investing in the 2nd gen HD-MD if there are good improvements (specifically in increasing storage space).

I hope that the announcement will be made at the CES next weekend. Kurisu, can you at least tell us that?

I live in the US, went to www.connect.com last night (12/21)and it had me load 2.3. It seemed to load fine, but haven't tried it yet. Good luck Weaves

Kurisu, I did the unistall (per the instructions) and was going to upgrade to 2.2. However, I then saw that 2.3 was available for Europe. I was waiting for the North American update. Is the Euro version ok for N.A.? Thanks Weaves

Actually, January is a good time. Sony announced Hi-MD at the CES show last year. Granted, the units weren't available until later. However, I would speculate that they would announce any major new units and/or unit changes at that time. The CES show is within the first two weeks of 2005. Weaves

Donna, Have you looked at the Kenwood KMD-44? It is a few years old (2001?) and hard to find, but still MDLP and looks nice (no odd colors). I was going to get this for my Land Rover. Here are a few links: http://www.minidisc.org/part_Kenwood_KMD-44.html http://www.car-audio-experts.com/kenwood-m...er-kmd-44.shtml I can't speak for the service from car-audio-experts.com, but the price looks great. Good luck!
