  1. I've recorded minimum two hour sessions every week in PCM since August. I've NEVER had any problems.
  2. Ah, great - thanks so much for all of your help - that's just the info I was looking for!
  3. So, just to clarify - is the quality of FLAC and WAV the same, it's just the compression that's different? I'm recording in PCM already, so I think that helps a bit. Thanks for your help, dex.
  4. Hello All, My apologies if this has already been discussed, or if I'm posting in the wrong forum. Now that we have HiMDRenderer 3.0 (which looks great, thanks Marcnet!), and all of these output options to choose from, I don't know which one to use!! I'd like to burn the resulting files to CD, but mainly I'd like to use the best quality possible. Could anyone please suggest which output format has the highest quality? Thanks, Lindsay
  5. I have the Etys (Er-6i) coming by UPS tomorrow. I'll let you know how they work out. I chose them over the Shures, because apparently they make voices sound clear, and not muffled... Edit: So it turns out that they're wonderful. I used to have to have my MD volume turned up to 28/30 to hear anything, now I can keep it down at about 14/30 or 15/30. I'm really pleased with the sound quality... they have actually turned me off of mp3s, because the sound is that good, and they show the lack-of-quality in the mp3s. But my CDs and MDs sound gorgeous... it really does sound like the singers I listen to (classical sopranos) are right inside my head. And they block out sound quite well... I've been experimenting with the TV. Hope that helps...
  6. Tests last night with all of these considerations (manual rec volume, etc.) went VERY well! Thanks all for your advice...
  7. I agree on the poor layout of the remote, but the reception on mine (I also have the 800) has been fantastic - even in my basement!
  8. Aha, thanks. Seeing as I've already paid for the 907, I think I'm out of luck. I think I'll remember your advice for next time though, thanks.
  9. thanks Dex, that's just what I needed to hear... What mic would you recommend, instead of the 907?
  10. Is there anyway to check if the quality of the .wav file differs from what is produced from Marc's program, to what comes out of Sony's? (I think I might just stick with Marc's) Lindsay
  11. Have any of you had problems picking up the lower dynamic ranges when using manual recording?
  12. Great, thanks. I just didn't want to blow anything up =)
  13. Weird question... would it cause any problems to use the minidisc's rechargable battery in my mic, and then recharge it in my minidisc?
  14. Hello, I am a classical singer, and I currently record all of my practice sessions on my MZ-NHF800. I have an ECM-MS907 mic, which works quite well for me. I would like to record a session with me and a pianist to create an audition CD for my master's degree. I was wondering if any of you minidisc-veterans had any suggestions for what settings to use? I currently DO NOT use the manual volume control, (it scares me) ... would it make a big difference to the sound quality? I find that now I have virtually no problems with using auto. Also, any ideas for the best placement of the mic? I will be singing in a church, with lovely acoustics - and I'm just wondering how far away the mic should be. I'd really appreciate any suggestions...
  15. Yep, that was me - and the 376MB .wav turned into a 34MB .mp3 (And I can't hear that much difference in quality... AND it works in iTunes).
  16. hey marcnet: I definitely don't mind... in fact, I'm honoured to be a part of this AMAZING project! And by the way, I'm a "she", not a "he"
  17. marcnet - thanks so much both for the program, and for your help. With sonicstage 2.1 your himdrender.exe is working amazingly! It turned my 70Mb .oma into a 350 Mb .wav which I'm now converting into an .mp3, and it's great! Thank you thank you thank you thank you!
  18. Aha! That'll fix it... I'm using Sonicstage 2.0. Just in case anyone's looking for it, you can find Sonicstage 2.1 at www.connect.com/download.html
  19. Yep - it crashes. It says: "This graph can't play. One or more arguments are invalid." Which I have a theory about... my uploaded files are saved as .omg, not as .oma as you mention in the method on page 1. Does this have something to do with it?
  20. Ah, this one I can help with... you need to run the program through dos: 1. open up a dos prompt: go to START - RUN. In the box type: cmd. Click OK 2. you now have to go to the directory that has "himdrender.exe" in it. Let's imagine that you're in c:documents and settingsuser To get out of this type: cd c: This will put you into your c drive Then go to the directory with himdrender.exe in it. For example, if the file is in c:program fileshimdrendererhimdrender.exe You'll need to type: cd program fileshimdrenderer 3. Then you are in the right directory to use the program. Type in: himdrender -i <name of file> For example: himdrender -i c:mymusicfilesminidiscrecordedfile.omg And if you want to specify where to put it: himdrender -i <name of input file> -o <name of output file> Eg. himdrender -i c:mymusicfilesminidiscrecordedfile.omg -o c:mymusicfilesmindiscwav filesrecordedfile.wav I hope that's right, and that it works for you. Everyone can please feel free to edit/correct as they will, but I know that I needed a bit of a dos refresher before playing with this program! Good luck!
  21. I have a different error... The program runs, but at: "attempt connection between omgsrc and omgtrans" I get a "himdrender.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close" message. The resulting ".wav file" (or lack thereof) ends up being 0 bytes, and obviously doesn't play. Any ideas on this? I'd LOVE to be able to use this software!!
