Now this has worked for me so it is worth a try, my RH10 would go into search mode when pressing the volume up button and it is annoying. I downloaded the service manual and as i thought the buttons have a rubber membrane under them. I suspect that the membrane has moved slightly causing the issues. About a week ago i repeatedly pressed the search button over and over for about five minutes with the unit upside down (screen at the bottom)and the issue has gone away for a week now. My search button is also now much more responsive , i had noticed that i needed to press it hard for it to work when i had the issue, i guess the membrane is alligned properly underneath again. Give it a go!

I have walked for hundereds of miles over the years and never had this issue with a MD unit, my guess is that it is faulty.

I have a couple of Hi-md recorders , i made a disc up with 18 albums in MP3 format, went to my mates and uploaded them to his machine with no issues. I read the RH1 review (minidisc.nl) and it says that you cannot upload usb transfered tracks?? I take it they mean Atrac3/3+ , i always thought that Sony applied DRM when skinning the MP3 tracks. This is good news as i couldnt transfer MP3s from home to laptop using there flash/HDD walkmans!

My RH10s volume up does Menu sometimes as well, its annoying , i think membrane below buttons is goosed. Only way to fix this i suspect is to send to Sony. They would put in a new membrane.

Unused , unwanted at a great price : http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Sony-DH10P-Hi-MD-Min...1QQcmdZViewItem If someone here wants it i will do it for £150

I bought it to test it out , very nice sound but i will be selling £160 uk for a new DH10P. If no interest i will be ebaying it.

Just got silver DH10P, love the sound quality but after 2 hours of music playback (and took 1 photo) it is showing 3/4 empty , however i left it playing on shuffle and it lasted another 8.5 hours! 3 of them showing flashing! Anyway moan over , the unit is very solid and after hacking is very very loud , interestingly my rh710 did not increase in volume after hacking, i suspect this is due to it being a Europe only unit , the equalizers are added by using dest code 24 but no volume increase.

Hi, i have scoured here for details of how to enter service mode on a dh10p. I did it on my old RH10 so i could adjust the equalizer to compensate for lowpassed mp3 playback and would like to do the same to my new dh10p. I know that i need a remote to do this (menu doesnt appear on screen apparently?)but i am a little unsure on button presses, i believe it is largely the same as the rh10 sequence but i am sure i read that you need to hold volume down rather than menu. Also i need to get a remote, will mc33el upwards do for this hack? (if anyone is selling one cheap i am interested!) Please help!

Sony UK press release Those who like to keep an eye on balanced sound levels won’t fail to appreciate the unit’s useful indicator, which displays a continuous graphical analysis of the sound spectrum during playback. By combining a large Organic EL display, new vertical Jog Dial, and shortcut Search button, the Hi-MD MZ-RH1 makes searching, locating, and playing music from a compilation of hundreds of songs easier than ever before. Simply hit the Search button or scroll the vertical Jog Dial to find music quickly by track, band, artist or album listed alphabetically. And regardless of whether you are looking at your Hi-MD MZ-RH1 WALKMAN in darkness, bright light or from an angle, its Organic EL display will make all information highly visible in clear, luminescent quality. YAaaaahhhhhhoooooooooooo! This unit sounds perfect to me with this and the MC40EL working!

I think £249 is an ok price and reflects the quality of the build, i just bought a NH1 for £117 new though so it may be hard to persuade existing users to upgrade, my mate is in a band and they have already put aside the money for a rh1 as it offers them a good recording solution for a relatively small price, Hi-MD prices fall fast and i expect £199 will be available from other suppliers from the off.

yes the radio works fine.
-
Just an update , the European NH700 has the correct remote port for the radio remote and it functions EXACTLY like it does on the NH800, also the MC37LT FM remote also works perfectly on both!

Hey the avwatch review says this below a picture : "Various information are indicated in organic EL display, according to usage condition such as spectrum analyzer indication, tune name, information of the stereo and level indication when recording" yeeeeee haaaaaa it can display tune names - maybe!

Went to the Sony Centre in Glasgow to see if they knew when the RH1 would arrive, he showed me the catalogue they have been sent, it says May release in UK but no pricing details as yet. He said that i had been the 2nd person in that morning to ask about it and that he wasnt taking preorders but at least 50 people had asked if they could. Seems the RH1 has caught peoples eyes, i think its the uploading that may be attracting them.

hi, does the fm remote supplied with a nh800 work on a nh700, i have noticed that the remote ports are the same with the extra grooves present on th nh700 also. Thanks in advance Mark

When i convert a lot of mp3s at once some of them have a tiny "digital squeal" for less than a second at the beginning of the track? IU can delete the atrac and do it again and it will be fine so i think it may be the volume that is the issue? Anyone else have this?

it was charged for 3 hours, it will play back if played straight away for about 10 hrs but loses its charged if left in standby (quick mode off).
-
I got a "brand new" NH1 , it has been in a stock room for well over a year now and when charged it show full but is down to 2 bars within 12 hours - quick mode is off. HELP - i hope its just the battery!

Up town , bored , went to Argos and spotted a half price Sony XDRS1 DAB radio, £70 , MD link - sold! Got it home , extended arial and auto tuned - result 100% signal on all stations , result! Plugged my RH10 into the optical out , recorded PCM from BBC 6 , Jim Noir live session and it sounds amazing, crystal clear. This DAB really is great, it supports L band as well as the usual III band, 10 presets and FM, MW , LW. The sound out of the box was good but a little thin, i left it on all day when i was out and the bass now sounds deep and round. The optical out should be on all dabs. Overall A+

Upgraded from 3.1 and now all my track numbers have vanished! They all say zero. The only way i have been able to order them was to add filename to tabs and sort by that. Why has this happened?

Thanks a lot Krazyivan!

Hi all , i have a nhf800 that came to me with a mc38elk remote instead of the mc39lt am/fm remote. I have been trying to get a replacement but Sony want a small fortune! Anyway i have seen some mc37lts for sale , they look identical but were designed for netmd - do you think they would work? i believe the 39 just has extra characters on the lcd? If anyone has one for sale let me know!

Hi, Interesting news from a friend last night, he has just returned from Malaysia where he met a Sony Buyer (buys metals for Sony) who told him that they were currently buying to build new minidisc players for release in May - he did not know if it was a hi-md or not (he didnt know what a hi-md was). This may be correct as my contact described to me the rh10 "has a screen like the hd1 and the whole front of the unit is glass like" that was months before it surfaced. Hope hes right!

I have a nh900 and it got a few minor scratches on the screen, i had some displex i used to clean up my mobiles lcd so i thought i would give it a go. I started polishing and after a short time noticed that the plastic over the screen was developing a "hole" , after closer inspection it became apparent that the screen has a layer of smokey material over it and the displex was removing it. I taped up around the screen and continued , after 5 minutes i had a crystal clear screen that i can read it in any light. I hated the fact it was hard to read the nh900 screen in anything but perfect conditions and this has solved this issue!
