  1. oh! It must be my old ears (im 24!) but i thought the N10 sounded ok! Yeah, i was thinking about the Sharp's but here in the UK MiniDisc has dwindled in the last couple of years so all you can get are Sony and only a couple of Sharp models. The Sharp's we do have are horrible and plastic! It's only when i looked at Minidisco and AudioCubes that i realised there is load's of new MiniDisc equipment being produced! It's the same with the disc's, the only one's over here are TDK, Sharp and Sony and there all the same ones that have been on sale for year's! No flashy one's etc just the same boring design! God i hate this country
  2. Yeah i don't use connect either! The installer is on it's way!
  3. I have a UK version of Sonic Stage that i know work's, but as your in the US it wont let you use connect! But if you want to give it a go then i'll email you the installer file?!
  4. I can't think of anything else! Hopefully someone else will be able to help? Where are you from?
  5. What source are you getting your copy of SonicStage from? I.e is it a CD or downloaded? Make sure you have downloaded the latest SonicStage 2.2!
  6. Hi, Follow the instruction's in the thread below and then try again! (it should work) http://forums.minidisc.org/viewtopic.php?t=4171
  7. What happen's if you try to record using the optical input in realtime?
  8. Hi there! Welcome to the forum's  It could be that your MD's optical block is dead Have you tried using a len's cleaner to clean the head's? As it's been sat for so long it might be dust, dirt etc on the len's. But as i said above, it could be that after not being used for so long the optical block has just packed up, in which case it will have to go to Sony for repair! Which will cost a fortune. What happen's if you try recording Optically in real time?
  9. hmmm, What version of SonicStage are you using? It's up to 2.2 now.
  10. Hi I was just wondering, has anyone tried optically recording from a SACD or a DVD-A yet? And if so, what was the quality like on the MD recording!!?? I was'nt sure whether you could or not through the optical connection as the sampling rates on SACD and DVD-A are not compatable with a MD unit's sample rate converter? And do you know whether you can use SonicStage with SACD and DVD-A? ??? Thanks!
  11. Hi, Welcome to the forum's! This may sound daft, but are you formating the disc's first? Im not to sure whether sonicstage record's over track's or just add's to the disc, so it would be worth erasing the disc's first and then connecting the MD to your PC and giving it a go!
  12. Hi I've just got myself an E10 off of ebay (£90 Brand new in box) and was wondering whether they are as bad as people make out? It will be replacing my trusty old R90 for portable playback, will it sound better than that? Also, i thought it would share some of it's internals with the N10, which i thought sounded great?! Thanks!
  13. Well, im guessing that Sony will act as quickly as possable as to regain some of there lost market share! There probably working on it right now. Remember, Sony's motivation in this mater is "£"!!!! or "$" depending on where your from! :rasp:
  14. Here is a link to the new's page: http://news.com.com/Sony+launches+music+pl..._3-5425555.html
  15. I don't think any MD unit's will be upgradable but im not sure about Hi-MD unit's. But an improved sonicstage will benefit everyone! I have a sneeky feeling that Sony's next range of Hi-MD model's will have MP3 support! Although Sony would have to come up with a solution for all the people who bought Hi-MD unit's for MP3 that don't support it.
  16. yes, your right. Although im not excited about the MP3 support as i see no point! If people have gig's of MP3's then: A- There deaf and B- They should buy an ipod! Just joking! What i mean, is that Why go to the bother of ripping an MP3 then (very slowly) converting to ATRAC and then (very slowly again) copying it to minidisc using a c**p piece of software! The ipod is small has native MP3 support and itunes is fantastic! All that converting between differt file format's using different bit rates etc must make the music sound terrible? or if not terrible it will greatly reduce the quality much more than if the music had just been converted the once?
  17. A decent version of Sonicstage!!! Atlast! Also judging by the above statement, native MP3 support for Minidisc!
  18. Hi £70!!! I got my NH600 Hi-MD unit off of ebay brand new for £89! Yes, the head's do have to be exact! Im not too sure on the science part of it, but when you record a MD, the laser beneith heat's the disc up which de-stabalises the disc's magnetic layer. Then the magnetic head changes the bit's on the disc to either a 1 or 0 (digital)! Then it cool's down and is set! If the above is utter c**p then please correct me! :rasp:
  19. hmmmm, a good suggestion actually! I just had a quick look on the net but could'nt find anything. Maybe you could buy a can of compressed air and just give the jack's a gentle blow-out before you use them? But you should be able to get cover's as the jack's are a universal size!
  20. oh dear! Minidisc system's have too reading head's, One is a laser len's (like a CD player) and one is a magnetic head which is directly opposite and above the laser len's! You may have mis-aligned the two head's when you took it appart! Or you could have damaged the len's when cleaning. If i were you, id buy a proper len's cleaner and give it a go, but in all honesty i think your MD unit is permanently damaged and requires a replacement. Maybe an ideal time to switch to Hi-MD?
  21. Hi all, I've now sent this item back to amazon and decided to keep my NH600!
  22. Hi I seem to be having some problem's with my N10! I have recorded some album's via the optical input, which has gone fine. However on playback on one of these album's (nelly Furtado: Folklore) there seem's to be some recording error's!!! I have re-recorded it on another new and different brand minidisc blank but there are still error's  The error's are completely at random and are small "jumps" of about 1/4 second long! I tried playing the recording back on my trusty R90 and they are still there. As i say it is only with this one album, Could it be copy protection? I no it's not a problem with the CD as it play's fine and the error's are in different places on the two recording's made. These "micro jumps" are few and far between with only 2 of them in the last recording over the whole album. You may think im being paranoid but i've been using MD since 97 and have NEVER had a recording error on any of my disc's!!! So is my N10 buggered? Thanks and sorry for the long post!
  23. Hi, Yes there are len's cleaning disc's available. But from what you described i'd be inclined to get anther MD unit! But the cleaning discs are cheap so it's always worth a shot!
