NW-A608/A607/A605 Firmware Update 2.01 A new firmware update for the NW-A608/A607/A605 is available for download as of May 25, 2006 from Sony Japan. The firmware update is of version 2.01 and amount to approximately 6,723KB. NEW FEATURE ADDED: New “Flower2” display screen Fixed display issue – from “FUNCTION LIMITED” to “SIMPLE Mode” – when device is connected to the NETJUKE systems (NAS-M7HD/D5HD/M7HDS)<HR noShade SIZE=1>DOWNLOAD LINK: Sony Japan <HR noShade SIZE=1> INSTALLATION PROCEDURE Please follow the procedure below to check the firmware version installed on your NW-A60x WALKMAN: 1) Press and hold the DISP/FUNC button until the Function menu appears. 2) Rotate the Shuttle switch to select Music Library and press the (PLAY/STOP) button. 3) Press and hold the SEARCH/MENU button in stop mode until the Setting menu appears. 4) Rotate the Shuttle switch to select Advanced Menu and press the (PLAY/STOP) button. 5) Rotate the Shuttle switch to select Information and press the (PLAY/STOP) button. 6) Confirm the firmware version at option [4:] by rotating the Shuttle switch. --> Create the following folder on the C:\ drive of your computer: FWUP --> Read the disclaimer at the bottom of the page and click "I accept" to download the program: NW-A600_V2_1.exe (6,723KB). --> Follow the instructions and save the program to C:\FWUP --> Check that the downloaded file is 6,723 Kb. If not, delete the file and repeat the download steps. <HR noShade SIZE=1> UPGRADE PROCEDURE Once the download is finished, please follow the steps below to upgrade the program. 1) Transfer all the tracks and data files saved on the built-in flash memory to the PC, and format the built-in flash memory. How to format the built-in flash memory: --> Press and hold the DISP/FUNC button until the Function menu appears. --> Rotate the Shuttle switch to select Music Library and press the (PLAY/STOP) button. --> Press and hold the SEARCH/MENU button in stop mode until the Setting menu appears. --> Rotate the Shuttle switch to select Advanced Menu and press the (PLAY/STOP) button. --> Rotate the Shuttle switch to select Format and press the (PLAY/STOP) button. --> Rotate the Shuttle switch to select OK and press the button to confirm. 2) Connect the unit to the PC. 3) Exit all the software running on your computer. 4) Click Start button on the task bar and click Run - The Run dialog box will be open. 5) Browse to C:\FWUP\NW-A600_V2_1.exe in the Open text box and click OK. The program will be started. 6) Follow the following screenshots *Please do not disconnect the USB cable during upgrading. *During upgrading, USB connection is automatically controlled and USB Connect indication is off with the control. Also, the USB disconnect message may appear on some computer. 7) Accept the License Agreement and click Next. 8) Connect the NW-A608 to your computer and click OK. 9) Close all the programs and click OK. 10) Click OK to start the update process. 11) The Update process is ongoing. 12) Firmware has been successfully updated, click Finish. <HR noShade SIZE=1> AFTER UPGRADE Please confirm the version when the upgrade program is installed successfully with the above steps. The upgrade program installation is succeeded when “2.01” is shown on the screen. <HR noShade SIZE=1>

SonicStage CP 4.0 has finally arrived! As mentioned in our previous report, the new SonicStage CP 4.0 includes full support for features exclusive to the WALKMAN A Series. Therefore, we were hoping Sony would finally make SonicStage a fully unicode software since it’s been tweaked to support the WALKMAN A Series. Unfortunately, unicode support has yet to be implemented with this update. On the bright side, it is already apparent that there is a substantial increase in the navigational speed, especially in previously laggy areas such as 'My Library'. European models of Sony Network Walkmans has a volume limitation set in accordance to a EU regulation - European Standard EN50332-1 (2000) - that makes it quiet in comparison to other regional models. The "volume hack" as known to most DAP users (usually consist of a set of codes or keys one would input within "test mode" of the device in question) disables the volume limiter. The "volume hack" (if applicable) for the new NW-E00x series will be published as soon as we can get hold of the NW-E00x's service manual.
