hey guys, im editing a concert i have recorded. i have the .wav files on my computer. i just wanted to know how, if possible, to increase just the vocals on a track? im a total noob when it comes to anything like this. in the past i only used audicity to amplify songs, and even that was too complicated. i actually ended up using windows sound recorder, and increased volume. it actually worked pretty nice. thanks in advance

thanks for those links.

sorry for replying to my own post but i just ran some tests. there is obviously static with the shirt over the mics, but i didnt really notice much in a sound quality difference. so heres a new question. what tricks and tips do you guys have on reducing static from the shirt rubbing against the mics? i have no clue, maybe tape a something on my shirt that will reduce it. any suggestions would be awesome. thanks.

hey guys, you guys are all the best, and i need some help fast. im going to be going to a concert this weekend. im thinking all the security will be watching. i wanna totally conceal my mics. like have them under my shirt or something. what is the best way to do this, and what are the best settings? any insight will do. here are my specs sony mz-nh900 SP BMC-2 mics Radio Shack Volume Attenuator thanks to everyone in advance. you guys know everything ::edit:: i just wanted to add one more question. if i have the mics underneath a thin cotton shrit. will that have a huge difference in the sound? will it have a lot of distortion? i will be testing this myself, but i trust you guys with everything

ill blame you whatever happens A440 ill keep it on low. im thinking itll just consist of a piano, and cello. there could be drums, not to sure though. but thanks for the advice.

hey guys, i just needed some help on rec settings for a smaller type show. i have no clue how loud this thing will be. one good thing is, i will not have to be incognito, as the artist doesnt mind fans taping the shows. so i guess i dont need exact settings, cause ill be able to play with the volume levels. but, do you guys still recommend the volume attenuator for these smaller type shows? can i leave the mic sens on high instead of low? thanks!

im not one to blast my stereo. although, i think my hearing is not as great as most. ive seen noisecancelling headphones and they seem to be quite expensive. i spent enough on my sennheiser 600hd's. ill be using my bose triports for the trip, i dont wanna bring my precious sennheisers
-
ok, just got this today. it definitly boosts the volume with not much distortion. im not really an audiophile so i cant be that specific, but it works. with the boost on and the volume on my player at 20/30, it sounds about how it would sound at 30/30 w/o the booster. the real test will be when im on the plane

i have a set of sennheiser 600hd's and a set of bose tri-ports, and the nh900. the bose head phones seem to be louder, but obviously not as crisp as the sennheisers. not sure if that helps, but thats what i noticed.

hi guys, i was wondering if anyone knew of any free software for making music on your computer. i dont mean for recording musc, i need a program that can create music. i used to have one, that you could choose any instrument and just write what notes you want to play, and combine all sorts of instruments. thanks.

thanks for all the responses..i went ahead and bought the one from boostaroo. 29 bucks, i figure even if its not that helpful, it wasnt too much.

im in the US, am i out of luck?? seems like these amps are pretty expensive, i dont think i will buy one.
-
im not really having a problem with clarity. its really just the volume. i have 2 sets of very good headphones that give clarity, im just looking for a volume boost.

hi guys, im gonna be going on vacation shortly and wanted to know if theres a kind of headphone amp where you can get higher sound from my hi-md player. i have a sony mz-nh900 and the audio on the playback is not the best. im thinking while on a plane or in a noisy area, not to mention ears-popping, the sound will be difficult to really enjoy in those situations. i dont know if theyre called amps though. do these things exsist? thanks in advance!
-
actually once i really listened to it, there were points that got a little high. in hindsight, i shouldve left it at 20/30. i really dont know how i can give you samples...if you have a way for me to do this, i can
-
no i did not use a battery box. i plugged the mics straight in the mic-in. umm, im a noob at this, i dont really know what you meant with the third question....i used the attenuator so the recording wouldnt overload
-
ok, i recorded a song from the opening act with the manuel volume setting at 20/30, with the attenuator on it ofcourse . anywho, i went to the bathroom at intermission and listened to it..noticed it was a little low, so i took a chance and up'ed it one notch to 21/30. the recording came out wonderful. i think it couldve been maybe one or two notches higher, but i cant complain for being safe. i was right near a larger speaker and could feel the bass shaking through my body. and none if it overloaded the recording at all. it may not sound professional, but there is no distortion and its really clear. thanks so much to everyone that has helped me. you dont know how much this recording meant to me. thanks so much! specs i used: sony mz-nh900 SP BMC-2 Mics 1GB Hi-MD disc Hi-SP Mode Mic Sensitivity = Low Manuel Recording Volume = 21/30 Radio Shack Volume Attenuator = Max Level
-
thats a very good battery...i just hope it doesnt blow up on you like mine did
-
thanks for all the help guys. i will be using the attenuator and the mic volume at 20/30. im gonna tape part of the opening act, and make some adjustments at intermission. the show is this week!!! im so excited. ill let everyone know how it goes

sorry for the bump....does anyone know why this happened to my battery???

i was trying to record some guitar playing on my mz-nh900, and it wouldnt let me. id get an error reading "Disc Is Protected". i tried a couple other discs and got the same error. tried deleting and formating discs, and it wouldnt let me. but it would read and play all my discs fine. running out of ideas, i opened the battery handle, and noticed that the battery wouldnt come out. i ended up needing pliers to take it out. when i finally pried it out i noticed the battery(sony nh-14WM) i was using had ballooned. then i put the factory battery(sony nh-10wm) back in the player and it works fine now. its weird that a swollen battery would make the player read all discs as "write-protected". so my question would be, what made my battery explode? was it a faulty battery? i mean, i know it still works, cause the player could still play songs for very long periods of time. can a battery balloon from recharging? if its always on that stand, is it bad for the player? i noticed all this a couple of days after i dropped it from my lap. it was not a major fall, and everything seems to work fine now. but maybe that couldve effected the battery in some way.

thanks a440. (dont know what id do w/o you man) anywho, ive decided to sneak a small pair of headphones in aswell, so i can listen to the recording during intermission. the reason that itll be on pause for a while, is cause i only wanna record one song from the opening act. i was gonna just leave it on pause after that, but im thinking itll be a good idea to go to the bathroom or something so i can listen to it, and maybe tweek the settings a bit. thanks again
-
thanks A440. ok, i will do as you say. but one more thing. whats the difference between setting the mic sens at high and volume at 10/30, and setting the sens at low with volume at 20/30? cause i remember you telling me to do the first one, and now youre telling me that latter. sorry for being such a noob, im just getting really excited. thanks for all the help

ok, im gonna be recording in Hi-Sp with my MZ-NH900, on a Hi-MD disc. i will also have the AA battery thing hooked to it and have a fully charged NH-14WM battery. i guess those specs werent entirely neccessary, but heres my question. if the player is set to record, and paused (with hold > On). how long will the player stay paused(does it automatically turn off if paused for too long)? and does it use a lot of battery life while paused? im thinking the player could be paused for while, so im just wondering. thanks in advance note: the entire show will last around 3 hours or so, but the player will only be recording for about 2 hours. and maybe be paused for an hour. will the battery along with the AA extension last?

ok, havent been here in a while. everyone here is awesome, my big show is just 2 weeks away. ive decided not to use the volume attenuator. i will be going to a live concert, and the audio will be pretty load. im using the sony MZ-NH900, in Hi-SP. ill also be using the SP-BMC-2 mics. ok, i assume i will set the Mic AGC > Loud Music. Mic Sens > Low. now the tricky part, what to set the REC Level? im gonna play around with it obviously but i would like as much input as possible. the concert will be relatively loud...its not a heavy medal band, but will still be loud. this will be incognito, so i will not be able to fool around with it during the show. because of this, ive been told by you guys to use the volume attenuator, to insure not to overload the recording(i hope i have the terminology right, i think you get what im saying). but this is very important to me, and i would like the clearest sound possible. im thinking maybe 10/30. thanks in advance, i know its kinda impossible to know the perfect setting, but im sure you guys here have recoreded live shows, and just wanted to know what you guys think.
