  1. If you would still want to do that The way that's been described on the forums a long time ago was: Copy the big file in the /hmdhifi folder to your harddisk, don't disconnect the unit, then copy it back to your himd.
  2. Nice one. Would be nice if there was a similar hack for simpleBurner, so you could rip cds to hi-md in some atrac3 format.
  3. Already tried that. As I said, I don't think it's ffdshow, but I didn't find out yet what causes the trouble. Uninstalling would make me 100% sure ffdshow has nothing ot do with it. DirectShowFilterManager, GSpot, GraphEditor all list so much codecs, that I don't know which one could possibly be interfering. I tried changing priorities for some filters but that didn't solve anything yet. What is strange though is that SS uses ffdshow when playing, but appearently not when transcoding, ... But what does it use? I don't really know how to find that out. I should have a way to monitor SS to see what filter it tries to connect to.
  4. It's still doing that. FFDShow May 22 2006 SSE (and 2 or so earlier versions since jan 2006). No. (Somehow I don't think it's ffdshow causing the trouble. I should uninstall it. Maybe I'll try that later, and post about my findings.)
  5. I think you already know then that there is not much of a chance getting the file back... (If I understand correctly, the file is still in your library, so you didn't delete it from there but you deleted the file on disk with explorer or something?) Sorry to hear you had to find out the hard way, but you'll probably never make the same mistake again
  6. I (forgot to mention it, but I) did all that. It's not some obvious settings issue, since I thoroughly checked and tried out all these different options. It feels to me as if some other DS filter misbehaves or was not uninstalled cleanly...
  7. 1. Concerning mp3 conversion problems. Since I installed version 3.4 (and now still with 4.0), mp3 conversion doesn't work anymore. I can play mp3s from within SS, and when I choose libmad or mp3lib in ffdshow (version of may 2006), I can see that ss uses ffdshow because the tray icon shows up. If i choose "disable" that tray icon doesn't show up. When I try to convert a track it ALWAYS gives me the error: Cannot Convert the specified track. Possible reasons may include: - The track (files) cannt be found. - SS does not support the file format. - The track is copyrighted. (00000000) Some people blamed some other installed codec for this, but I didn't find what causes the trouble on my system yet. The problem is only on my laptop. 2. Concerning upload problems When I uploaded my own mic recordings in SS 3.4, it didn't create nice filenames anymore (sometimes it did), but just took trackname, and (almost always) artist and album from some random other (mp3) file in my library, so that it was almost impossible to find the recordings after uploading. It seems to be fixed in version 4.0. Very strange... Was I the only one having this problem?
  8. Look at this topic... "Transfers not Allowed" , on Sonicstage http://forums.minidisc.org/index.php?showtopic=13947 This may sound familiar and may solve your problem. It didn't solve mine yet though.
  9. No it's made to convert old 'omg' files to oma, but I found out it strips off DRM of all your oma files too. Tons of files in a few steps if you like
  10. Or use "Sonicstage File Conversion Tool" (Tools Menu) and uncheck ADD DRM. This will convert all your drm-ed files at once.
  11. That functionality should simply be included in SS, I think.

    HELP!

Did you use the backup tool? Then restore your files using this tool. Do you still have them on MD? If it's no on both questions, I guess you're out of luck. DRM is always applied to uploaded recordings. --- One way to strip DRM off of these files (before you reinstall) is by using "SonicStage File Conversion Tool", UNchecking "delete files" and UNchecking "add DRM", or by converting every drm-ed file to the same codec and bitrate and by UNchecking "add DRM"...
  13. 1. It wont work via explorer 2. In the dropdownmenu there should be "Create Audio CD", "Create Atrac CD", "Create MP3 CD", and (if the recorder is connected) "Hi-MD". You should select Hi-MD of course, and then after a while you get a list of what's on the hi-md. If it doesn't work, then something's wrong with the connection... Remove the hi-md, switch it off and try to reconnenct i'd say. It should be in the dropdownlist after a while... 3. While SS is running you shouldn't be able to 'browse' the folders on the disc, as SS takes hold of it while running. It doesn't seem you're doing anything wrong. (Have another pc for trying? Know someone with another hi-md to try on your pc?)
  14. I found out something an hour ago, which may be useful to some people so I thought I'd share it here. If you upload songs to your computer, DRM is still applied to this files by default, there is no workaround. Most people know you can remove it by converting to the same bitrate, and unchecking the "Add DRM" checkbox. Today I tried out Tools->File Converter Tool (because I have a problem converting mp3s). This tool is to convert your old omg files to oma, but you can also uncheck the "Add DRM" option here. I didn't check the "Delete Files" checkbox because I wasn't really shure what would happen to the mp3s (didn't want to loose them). It turned out that all my OMAs which still were DRMed, were UNCOPYRIGHTED afterwards, so you can unDRM all files in your library in a few steps. No MP3s were touched Other people please confirm this if it also works for you, so I know that this has no undesired side effects.
  15. I uninstalled mpg123dsf (which I had to do manually) and ffdshow. No luck. Tried to clean up as much as possible, also, some other tools I didn't really need. I don't have ac3filter. Nothing helped. Maybe I missed something but so far I didn't find it. Are there other people with different solutions that worked (and I don't mean "convert to wav first" of course)?
  16. All my mp3 files play in any program without a problem. ffdshow is installed, don't know if that might be a reason. It doesn't work either if I disable ffdshow for mp3 (in that case the standard fraunhofer filter of windows should be used, I guess). Problems started since I installed version 3.4, I never had any problems before, so it seems to me it's some SS problem...
  17. Has this been solved yet? Because I have the same problem... Converted the mp3 to wma lossless and that worked, but uploading the mp3, no luck... I upgraded from 3.2 to 3.4 btw.
  18. You could try Exact Audio Copy or EAC (google for it)
  19. BTW this works since version 3.2 (the 1st version where you could choose not to "add copy protection")
  20. I doubt it. I don't know if you can import your library backup in an older version of SS... But as I said I have never tried 3.3, so I didn't have any problems yet...
  21. Sorry I can't be of any help, but are you using SS 3.3 ? I am just curious because I have the feeling I have seen this ERROR story a lot since 3.3, and I am still using 3.2 until I feel it's worth upgrading for minidisc users...
  22. The NH700 is the cheapest model that would fit your needs I guess. It has line in/mic in/optical in. Headphones out (no line out). You can use a regular AA battery (I think this is the only model like that), so it's easy to buy a new higher capacity battery, or to carry a spare battery. Pricier models have some more options, like maybe radio or the possibility to pitch shift songs, but that's luxury if you just want a simple recorder. Recordings can be uploaded and instantly converted to wav (and then to mp3 as needed) with any model. (Use Sonicstage 3.2 or higher)
  23. You're right. (it's called "IsDebuggerPresent") I forgot to mention I patched my kernel to get that far of course Such testing should best be done on a test machine, so you can't lose anything important, and you can screw up your ss installation as much as you like... Patching the kernel can be done with a simple hex-editor, I once posted how I did that but then the forums crashed and the post got lost. When I find that method again maybe this weekend I will repost it here , but it's not so hard to find it on the internet. It's the only way to dig deeper into the inner workings of the secure module, I think. Install Windows and an old SS version and an old libraray backup on a separate partition, make a partition image so you can easily restart if you screw up badly , and there you go
