  1. Hi, Also checked the Sony store today and they expect the RH1 in August now: It was previously July 7th. btw Currys tried to steer me away from the RH710 saying it was 'old technology' and MP3 players were better. I considered starting a debate about 64Kb/s in Artrac and MP3 and the quality differences but bit my lip and got the RH710 for a good price instead. The salesmans face was very confused, it was a real picture, he did not know wether I DID know what I was talking about (and therefore slightly humiliated him) or that I was fool and he had pulled a fast sale. He wasnt quite sure.... But in any case Curry will not be stocking the RH1. They are famous in the UK for being completely ignorant of the products they sell. Best regards Graham
  2. Hi Folks, Just browsing at the Chelmsford Currys Digital and find this lonely MZ-RH710 marked at 89.99. Further investigation reveals that they have just reduced the price on the system to 69.99 GB pounds. I bought it for a spare and for Greek holidays as it runs on 1x AA. No remote or mains adapter though. It is clearly a ploy to clear the shelves of minidisc.
  3. Hi, The fault you describe is due to the recorder being unable to write to the disk in a manner which satisfies itself. I had a similar problem (only once) when I tried to record with my new RH1 onto an old Hi Space disk. I had to remove the battery to get it out of the write mode it was stuck in. Try using some reputabel (Sony ?) disks which are labelled as compatible with Hi MD. If this does not work it is definately a return to sony to have it repaired. Best regards Graham
  4. Hi, A quick update, update, the other buttons 'Display' Prgm' 'Sound' DO work. Either I was tired or the buttons are erratic. Best regards Graham
  5. Hi, No, The protect is off, the discs were just formatted. A quick update, the 40ELK is NEARLY compatible with the RH1. It is great for displaying the track or the group on the disc (not at the same time) and the artist and track as they are played, selecting tracks works OK. The other buttons 'Display' Prgm' 'Sound' do not work. The other track and volume controls do. I hope that this is what others have found and that I have missed in all the discussion. I am sure someone said that the 40 ELK was compatibel and was the thing to have with an RH1. it is worth having but the controls on the RH1 are good and easy to use. It is very clear what you are doing. Best regards Graham
  6. Hi, I remember reading in the Dutch MD review about the RM-MC40ELK NOT being compatible with the RH1. I have just tried a new MC40ELK and it is not compatible. When the Menu button is pressed (hold the roller down) then it should give 'Edit'as the first of 'edit' 'option' rec setting' as the RH1 does from its menu. The 40ELK only gives 'SpeedCtrl' Title' 'option' Have I missed all this in the discussions on the list or is this news. Best regards Graham
  7. Hi, Full price of 249 GBPounds I'm afraid. I did succumb to the temptation though, the RH1 is very cute and the SS 3.4 works ! You just have to remember that Media player 7.0 and above is a REQUIREMENT not just a nice to have... So they now only have 1 RH1 left on their shelf.... Best regards Graham
  8. Hi, Just a quick note to say that after a swift search of the Sony Centres they have the Black RH1 in stock at Lakeside in Essex. These are the only ones in this area to my knowledge. Best regards Graham
  9. Hi, Thank you very much for the excellent reply to this question. I will download the correct version of WMP. If this is a dependancy shouldn't the software check for the existance of the correct version of WMP and is this in the system requirements specification?? Best rgerads Graham
  10. Hi, No I did not think I needed to install WMP 10 before installing SS 3.4. If I did then this would explain the problem. I am not sure WMP 10 is compatible with Win 98SE..... Thanks for your input. I will investigate. Best regards G
  11. Hi, Appologies for double post but my first got lost under a similar Windows XP problem. I have a similar problem with the MDF 3.4 Installation on win 98SE. During the various installs it complained about:- First time complains of..... Unable to register 'omgtrans.ax' hresult -2147220472 When I tried to run SS3.4 it complained..... Cannot locate needed files related to Windows Media Format. Exiting Sonicstage Error code 00004e22 ...and exited. I tried to run SB 2.0 SB has fatal error. Sugests reboot. I tried a re-install of the programmes..... Second time install (no uninstall) no problems. SB has fatal error. Sugests reboot. NetMDSB.exe has performed an Illegal operation and will be shut down.... Can you suggest any solutions ?? Grf

  13. Hi, Yes the Argos site is very perculiar. The NH1 can be found in > Sound and vision > Clearance Sound and vision > Clearance personal audio A link to the page is http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Browse/catal...6;cip=36906.htm There is not other way to see stock other than putting it in the basket and then selecting one store at a time to see if they have it. Bad design I know... Be careful that you paste the full URL........ Best regards Graham
  14. Just browsed the Argos catalogue on the net. The NH1 is going to be re-stocked in stores in Essex at least at the end march/beginning of April for collection only. It is still at the excellent price of 99.99 GB pounds. The girls are nice at the Bishops Stortford store too. Best regards Graham

    New Hi MD Model?

Hi Folks, Copied by my loverly wife from the Chelmsford confidential (until April 1st) preview catalogue..... MZ-RH1 has......... Linear PCM Visible 1 Line display (electro luminessent from the pic) Mac Compatible Record via USB2 or Mic Remote control Headphones Rechargable Batt Sonic Stage 3.4 Simple Burner 2 Joystick Control from side panel Image that there is a NH1 in its cradle, i.e. upright. The RH1 looked very similar in thickness and style, no bumps. The 'front' panel was smooth no display or buttons in the middle. Where the darker panel is on the NH1 the is a flatter panel with the Joystick play/enter button at the bottom. The rest on the panel is the bright (blue) display. There are a number of play/vol/stop buttons on the front edge between the front panel and the panel side. It all looked very neat and economical. It is clearly a replacement for the NH1. Best regards Graham

    New Hi MD Model?

Hi, The picture I saw looked very like a dark anodised aluminium Nh1. The side panel could well have had a joystick like the NH1. However the picture was little larger than a postage stamp (remember those?) and the Sony shop knew little more about the item than beig able to find it in the preview catalogue. I am sure it will be announced with due fanfare in May. Best regards Graham

    New Hi MD Model?

Hi, As the one who started this thread I am really amazed at the response, if I had known I would have taken more in about the new unit. I had just bought an NH1 though... The new unit MZ-RH1 was in the 'preview catalogue' in the Sony Store in Bishops Stortford England. There was a small picture and a 8 bullet point description. I cannot remember anything spectacular in this description but 'single line display' did stand out, as did 'upload music to PC' but the rest was standard MD stuff. The picture did not look like a mock up and it did look like the NH1 but in dark material. The buttons and layout looked very NH1-ish. The release date was May 2006 and there was no price. If it is in the (paper) preview catalogue then I am really surprised that more information is not available. By the way Argos has sold out of the NH1 in Essex/Herts at least in the UK and I suspect there will be non in UK stores very soon at 99 GBP. Best regards everyone, Graham

    New Hi MD Model?

Hi This may be old news to this forum but a search on MZ-RH1 does not return anything. I have just picked up a new MZ-NH1 from Argos in the UK at 99 GBpounds and its great. Called in at the Sony shop on the ways out of the Mall and they showed me a preview of an MZ-RH1 which was due in the shops in May. It looked like a MZ-NH1 replacement, single line display etc, very similar physically to NH1 only the current dark aluminium colour. Could not stop to get further details but anyone else heard of this one ??
  19. Hi, I had exactly the same problem with my old MZ-R50(?). Due to some poor disk insertion the 'protect detector pin' got broken/bent. If you look into the open mouth of the MD to the left hand side there should be two pins, the nearest one longer than the other. It probes the protect hole in the MDisc. If your is still OK then try putting a small piece of tape over the Mdisk hole (even though it shouyld be filled as normal for record enable) and see if the extra hight helps the MD recorder recognise the disc as record enabled. If the pins bent/broken there is no repair I'm afraid.
  20. Sorry, Picture did not upload, but any anyone interested ? GRF
  21. I have just got my NH1 from amazon in the sony sell off many on the list have got. I ordered a NH900 because of tthe battery. I made this (crude) charger for the cradle because I holiday in Greece and the mains is very dodgy.
  22. Hi emmrecs, I am glad that you have got a similar result to me when trying to download SS 3.0. I was still working on SS 2.1 (only just got my MD) so the installer upgraded me to SS 2.3. If I had had 2.3 installed I am sure I would have got the same comment from the installer as you did. Does anyone know why some in the UK are allowed to upgrade to the new version and some not ? I am reading all the comments on SS 3.0 with interest but I suspect that it is a beta release with the link made available to some selected testers as a 'private thing' from sony. The smart people on this forum happened to guess the link. I think I will wait for SS 3.1. Best regards, Graham
  23. Hi, Just reading the thread on the SS 3.0. I am sure that sony are doing something funny with access to the SS 3.0 installer site linked in this thread for users in Europe. When I tried the link I got the 2.3 upgrade. I cannot 'see' the US connect site directly with the browser. Would love confirmation of this from oher UK/Europe MD'ers Best regards Graham
  24. Hi, I like the screenshots. They are in no way the same as the ones that I got when I followed the link. The link upgraded my SS 2.1 o SS 2.3 so it was not a waste of time. However I am really puzzled about which link/installer is available where. Best regards Graham
  25. Hi, Just read the post about sS 3.0 available on the link posted. I have just followed the link and it downloads the installer. The installer then only has options for SS 2.3. I see no 3.0 options available. I am in the UK Best regards Graham
