  1. Havn't tried it on BSD but should be same for most linux distros, ive mounted it on RH a few times: mkdir mount_pt # eg /mnt/hi-md mount -t vfat /dev/sda mount_pt cd mount_pt The usb drive may come up as a different device so if that doesnt work try /dev/sdb, /dev/sdc... Hope this helps
  2. If you've just got Atrac playback in mind and your looking for a HD player, id recommend the Sony hd1 over the hd5. The build quality is excellent, its basicly a nh1 with a hdd (magnesium case, jap made). One other thing is its dead sexy. http://productimages.sony-europe.com/IM_NW-HD1.jpg Cheers, Disso
  3. Hi, Just wondering which factory would be producing the new 3rd gen hi-md. Malaysia, as with 2nd gen units, and the NW HD-5 etc. or Japan as with most 1st gen Hi-MDs. Cheers, disso
  4. wouldnt tags be stripped when the PCM file is converted back to wave? Any tags that remain would most probably lay in the wave header.
  5. This is an excellent addition to sonicstage. Has anyone tried downloading a wave to md, uploading it back and comparing it with the original? it would be interesting to see the difference between the two.
  6. I find the optical in a usefull addition. i use it to record music from a digital tv set to box, its codec stacking but hey, it still sounds alright. Also as Archivist said, take CDs with to restrictive DRM for MD simple burner, optical can be quite handy.
  7. From memory longhorn was the codename for the new version of windows coming out. It has now been named Windows Vista. As for changing OS, no one can force you, but as in the past, new driver and program releases will be less likely to support older versions of windows.
  8. My 3rd Gen wish list: 1. Excellent build quality -> just like the nh1 2. Refined playback quality (hardware/Codec) -> ATRAC lossless would be good, PCM is ok for now 3. Less restrictive/no DRM -> i can only dream 4. Increased transfer speed

    Sony DRM on CD's

It will be very interesting to see whether or not sony tries to distance themselves from first4internet now things are heating up. Also, found another forum help post from the first4internet employee. http://www.osronline.com/lists_archive/ntfsd/thread2716.html

    Sony DRM on CD's

Thanks for the insight guys. Looks like sony finally started feeling a little guilty about themselves... http://seattlepi.nwsource.com/business/170...Protection.html. Glad to see this story made it to main stream media, found this on google news australia this arvo.
  11. found this interesting article on boingboing.net Thought it was interesting... md most probably uses a similar technology.
  12. I've got an Australian NH-1 unit. The Power supply states: Input: AC240V, 50Hz, 7W Output: DC6V, 800mA Hope this helps. Bought my old R900 off Minidisc Australia, its still kicking on strong. A great business you've got there Sefu.
  13. Looks like the designers of the EH1 got some ideas from this beauty. It truly is a work of art.
  14. I will be sticking with my NH1 because: Most of the music i store on MD is ripped straight from CD, therefore no real need for MP3 Playback. Build quality as i see it is far superior in NH1 to 2nd Gen (Made by Sony Japan vs Made in Malaysia) Love the metalic case... 2nd Gen is plastic.
  15. I saw the NH1 for around AU$500 at the good guys frankston, this includes good mic. and crap case. Hi-MD Blanks have also come down to AU$4.75 at JB. still AU$10 everywhere else!
