  1. lol, can't you hold the camera steady?
  2. Get v4.0 here, the thread is pinned in the software subforum: http://forums.minidisc.org/index.php?showtopic=9586
  3. Thanks tek, a great tool - great for cleaning up my desktop PC. Unfortunately it crashes after a folder delete.
  4. Thanks for that. I'm such a noob, i wasn't even aware of the space needed for the system restore. I did a reinstall of the OS a few days ago and i guess the available space for the system restore will be slowly filled up now. No need to blame SS. Thanks very much for bringing it to my attention. --Problem solved.--
  5. Thanks, richyhu. Total temp folder size is only 50MB though with 35MB of SS leftovers.
  6. Thanks. Thing is, i don't even have a library, i use SS for uploading only. Will do a duplicate file search later.
  7. After two unsuccessful installs and (according to the FAQ complete) uninstalls of the SS3.4 offline installer and a successful install of the SS4.0 online installer, free harddisk space has decreased by roughly 1.2 gigabytes. I'm willing to give it up to 100 megabytes, but definitely not much more. How much does SS require and how do i remove hangovers of previous installs without reinstalling the OS? I'm running a PIII notebook with 256MB RAM and WinXP without service packs, if that matters. Housecall says the system is clean. Thanks for any help.
  8. When price comes down, you can have as many removable cards as you want and use it the same way you use CC/MD. It's just too early yet.
  9. The higher voltage of a battery box would in theory improve the signal to noise and high sound pressure level handling of a non-self powered electret mic. Practically speaking, the difference would be marginal, if audible at all. The real purpose of it is to enable line-in recording for undistorted (no preamp overload) recordings at high SPLs. If your particular mic is to be powered by an internal battery only and external powering shouldn't be used, a battery box would be useless anyway. I don't have experience with this mic, but the fixed XY-mounting of cardioids might limit your creativity in the long run. The S/N ratio seems somewhat higher than what you can expect from miniature mics though.
  10. You might be interested in this thread, in which we talked about preamp quality: http://forums.minidisc.org/index.php?showtopic=10744
  11. I wish i could help, but it's hard to find the bug without at least seeing your construction. Any pics?
  12. Spybot found three entries, but i'm not sure about their origin. Housecall only found a few vulnerabilities. System seems to work as usual now.
  13. Hot melt glue will work best - dries fast, is inexpensive and non-toxic, will make a solid housing.
  14. Welcome richyhu, your presence is most appreciated.
  15. Thanks, are our machines infected now? Everything seems to work as usual.
  16. Approx. 98 MB. Before entering mdcf it's <20. Also it says something like "transferring data from 196.regvista.com" while filling up the memory. If i leave and re-enter the site in the same tab, memory consumption is back to normal. [attachmentid=1833]
  17. What's up with the forum, do we need gigabytes of RAM now just to read some text? Look what happens to the RAM counter when i enter the forums: [attachmentid=1832] What could be the cause? It doesn't seem to happen on the minidisc.org main site or the lofi version of the forum.
  18. 1, Are you sure it's not a 110-240V universal adapter? If you want to use the R500's adapter, make sure it uses the same connector, polarity, output voltage (usually somewhere between 3-6V) and can deliver at least the same current (mA). Or you could get an universal adaptor. 2, Not at all. The battery will need a few cycles to unfold its full potential, but no special care is necessary during this period. Don't overcharge. 3, Modern chargers should be smart enough to interrupt the process automatically. If you however somehow manage to overcharge, the battery might swell and get stuck in the unit (assuming this unit uses a gumstick sized battery). Even if it doesn't deform, overchargig obviously won't be beneficial fo the battery's performance, it might loose capacity. 4, http://forums.minidisc.org/index.php?showtopic=16238
  19. Any MD recoder will also be able to play back. The PC connectivity of the latest models (Hi-MD)is just a nice addition, not a limitation. What you need is a MD with mic input (preferrably a high/low input sensitivity switch for a better level control) and a microphone. By connecting headphones to the unit, you can listen to your recording immediately. If PC upload is not required, you can get a used pre Hi-MD device for a ridiculously low price via ebay. With a good mic, recording in SP mode will easily outperform most cassette recorder's quality.
  20. Hello octoberwoman, have you checked your 'spam' folder, maybe my reply ended up there? Anyway, i'll send you another message, this time via PM of this board.
  21. The included help file should cover most (if not all) of your questions, common mistakes, etc. Have you read it?
  22. Even if the codec might sound slightly worse (or not), the excellent AD & DA stages of the hardware make up for it. To my ears, Hi-SP is virtually transparent and Hi-LP not too bad for a low bitrate codec though. Mp3 playback is also possible with the RH1.
  23. The capacitors (bass rolloff filter) sit behind the mic's output (between mic and recorder's input) and thus don't have an effect on the SPL handling of the mics. If your recorder has only a mic-input (no line-in, like many camcorders, but unlike MD recorders), the lowered output in the lower frequency region can lower distortion of the recording in high SPLs by less overloading the preamp. Virtually all MD recorders are equipped with a line-in though, which cannot be overloaded easily even at very high SPLs (unless you have extremely sensitive mics). Thus no bass roll-off will be necessary if you record via line-in. Correction via software is more precise than a fixed 6dB/oct filter anyway. Be sure to always keep an unedited master.
  24. I'm not going to comment on the quality (too subjective), but Atrac(3(+)) is CPU friendlier than many other codecs, it has been designed with hardware in mind.
  25. You can can listen to your recordings right on the unit, no matter what format you've recorded in, even PCM/WAV. HiMD doesn't support direct WMA playback, but Sonicstage will transcode it to a compatible format if necessary. Upload via USB using Sonicstage should work flawlessly, for a guide how to proceed with the uploaded files, see this thread.
