I'm looking forward to something like that: [attachmentid=423]

There are definitely such cables, they're often sold as 'headphone extension cord' or the like. Here's what i've found at Radioshack: http://www.radioshack.com/search.asp?find=...hp=search&SRC=1 Look out for a shielded one.

Awesome, i love his music, at least his earlier works and especially the trio with Charlie Haden and Jack DeJohnette, he's a genius.

Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do.

Md + Cassette Adapter: Why So Much Hiss?
greenmachine replied to Jeff DLB's topic in Technical, Tips, and Tricks
It doesn't matter if the cassette player has 'auto-reverse' or not, any adapter should work as long as you're playing the corresponding side. If the player has line/aux-in, use this instead - it should give way superior results. -
Battery life depends significantly on how you treat your battery. Overcharging, frequent partial discharging + recharging and deep discharging will reduce capacity in general. The 'Battery University' carries a lot of useful information on how to get the best performance from the 'nickel-metal-hydride' and other battery systems.
-
A suitable resistor would do the job. The lower the resistance, the faster - the slower the more thoroughly. Never discharge them to zero, down to 1V or slightly below should be enough. [attachmentid=419] It lets you get really close.

A MZ-DH710 would be useless for your purpose since it does not feature a mic or line input. A MZ-NH700 / MZ-NH800 would propably give the best 'bang for the buck' since they tend to be cheaper here and recording quality seems to be virtually the same for all models, i don't know about their current availability though.

- You'll get no low battery indication - For recording the unit won't try to save the file system before the batteries run out of power (your recording will be lost) - It might try to charge the internal battery if there's one inserted, which will drain the external ones quickly Otherwise, i don't see problems as long as you're careful with polarity and voltage. Taperssection has its own subforum dedicated to remote powering: http://taperssection.com/index.php?board=25.0

If your object is a dirtortion-free recording without altering the frequency response, you won't need any roll-off if you use the battery box with line-in. Line-in gives you way more headroom for loud sounds. If your recording sounds too 'boomy', you can always equalize it to your taste afterwards with an audio editor, you won't need a roll-off in the battery box for that. If you're using manual levels, the loud music/standard AGC setting has no influence by the way, but the high/low sensitivity has. Set it to 'low sens' for everything except for ultra quiet sounds.

Not Enough Live Recordings In Gallery/archive..
greenmachine replied to Christopher's topic in Live Recording
I've notified the admin about this problem via PM. I can't create a new album either. Besides, the board is incredibly slow at the moment. I'd like to hear your recordings as soon as it works. -
Not Enough Live Recordings In Gallery/archive..
greenmachine replied to Christopher's topic in Live Recording
The gallery is buggy, you can access only albums 01-05, 11-15, 21-25, 31-35 and so on through the gallery directly, i'm not sure if kurisu's aware of it, maybe someone should tell him. As long as it's not fixed, you can access all sites manually here: Page 01 (Album 01-05) Page 02 (Album 06-10) Page 03 (Album 11-15) Page 04 (Album 16-20) Page 05 (Album 21-25) These do not exist yet, but most propably in the future when users create more albums: Page 06 (Album 26-30) Page 07 (Album 31-35) Page 08 (Album 36-40) Page 09 (Album 41-45) Page 10 (Album 46-50) -
Not Enough Live Recordings In Gallery/archive..
greenmachine replied to Christopher's topic in Live Recording
Thank you very much Melissa, although it's not the kind of music which i usually listen to, i've been seriously overwhelmed by this heavenly experience. I hope i could transport some of its original magic into this virtual medium. I've been pretty busy in recording lately. I think it's becoming a serious addiction. You might want to check new additions to the live recording archive regularly. -

Today i've had the incredible opportunity to record a philharmonic orchestra in an old church with awesome acoustics in a pretty ideal spot. http://forums.minidisc.org/index.php?act=m..._album&album=50 Anybody wants to hire me? -

I'd like to invite anyone who is interested in live recording to take a 'look' at my recently updated album. Don't hesitate to comment. I'm particularly proud of that pipe organ church recording i did today, although filesize got somewhat large. BTW, I finally did the step to Hi-MD, so goodbye SP - welcome PCM (also welcome software problems, DRM and other limitations ). http://forums.minidisc.org/index.php?act=m..._album&album=50 -
Lame lacks so-called 'intensity stereo', which is usually used for low bitrates (<128 kbps). OGG Vorbis uses a similar technique below -q6 (approx. 192 kbps) AFAIK.
-
When you look at graphs you could be mislead by an intentional lowpass which LAME for example uses. Very high inaudible frequencies are cut to improve quality elsewhere. It's part of the way it works. It doesn't mean it'll sound worse.
-
Me neither.

do you listen with your eyes?
-
Somebody at hydrogenaudio conducted such a test a while ago, but i think without a significant result. It's damn hard to hear a difference at such a high bitrate. http://www.hydrogenaudio.org/forums/index....showtopic=20485

too far - shipping too expensive - too bad

What's your location?

If i were you, i'd get myself an additional separable omni pair and use them at least for a while along with your current cardioids and exeriment a lot to get a idea what works better in which situation, considering that none of these pickup patterns being the holy grail, each having its own pros and cons. Forget all these cool looking, fixed distance mics unless comfort is your main priority.
