  1. Thanks a lot for the responses and the link.. Helps a lot..
  2. wow, for me too.. dex is right, I somehow did not consider the dynamic range and thought only the peak-average digital levels would make up the volume. just to clarify, by compression i guess you mean amplitude compression, not data compression? thanks for the valuable explanation.
  3. Thanks for the junkyard advice. I may try that - i do not bother to put a brand new tuner in since the last two got stolen and the car itself gets stolen once in every few years.
  4. AA rechargable batteries evolved from 800mAh up to 2500mAh.. Why don't they develop higher capacity gumstick batteries for minidiscs? After all both are NiMH.. This lousy battery only lasts for a few hours and almost useless for Hi-MD recording with my 910...
  5. What do you think about Grado? The SR60 I have now should be less than $70. I really enjoy the sound but the open-chamber design lets some noise in - and also some music out. I may also switch to a new one after hearing your recommendations.
  6. Yea but you still have to have a tuner in the car.. So it is not that that cheap for me.. add to that a battery powered portable radio and now you are talking "cheap"
  7. I so do not expect Sony to have thought of something like that, considering so far they have missed lots of much more crucial stuff in their MD technologies. Properly authored audio CD's should have a somehow standard sound level, since they are all in digital format. If you are having problems with a particular CD having too low or high levels you can rip the tracks to wave files and "normalize" the tracks with a wave editor before transferring them to MD by SonicStage.
  8. Well, it is normal if you consider the fact that the outer shell of the disc that i used had been cracked badly and I did not notice it before sticking it in. Anyway, i got it out eventually as I described.
  9. Here is one from me: 5 songs: SEA4XPZHMTDD Cheers
  10. Today an MD got stuck inside my two-day old R910. I tried almost everything to get it out but could not manage to do so. I found that the Maxell discs I have used sometimes cause this problem, but there was no immediate solution anywhere, other than gently and patiently pulling the disc. In my case it did not budge. I was almost going to send the unit back to service. After a few hours of frustration I found a solution: Cut out a strip of hard plastic about 2cmx8cm. It should be less than 1mm in thickness. Stick the piece between metal mechanism below the MD cover and the disc. juggle it around. The disc will pop up in seconds. Warning, do not stick the plastic to the bottom side of the disc since you may scratch the optical head and/or damage the electronics. In my case the disc was a maxell MD74 gold, and the transparent plastic on it had came off making the disc a potential killer for any MD. I should have been more careful inserting that in the first place. Hope this helps somebody else too.
