  1. Bogarts in Cinncinnati uses metal detector wands, but don't check your lower leg area. I have a Sony armstrap minidisc case and strap it to my calf under cargo pants near my ankle. My mic and cable I loop around my neck under my shirt.
  2. I listen to a lot of podcasts on my RH10 and have had a bunch of problems with podcast mp3s. I do one of two things to them before I upload; I manually convert them in sonicstage, or I convert them with dBconverter. The manual coversion method works most of the time, and the dBconverter method works every time, but is more hands on. Almost every mp3 I get from my podcatching client is unable to play on my RH10 without conversion. I have figured out that LAME mp3 encodes work the best however. dBconverter uses a better codec, and I have had trouble with other "free" converters. I think the bitrate has little to do with the 'CANT PLAY' problem. I really think it's what they used to encode with, and how they went about it, i.e.; sample rate, stereo/mono etc. TWIT podcast, and KFI podcast with Leo Laporte both come out fine with no conversion needed, but Leo has stated that he was following a trend of higher quality podcast encodes. It seems to me he's leading that trend. Until everyone else catches up, Sony included, convert them before you upload. Good luck!
  3. Good prices on adapters here. http://www.audiogear.com/Audio-Adapters-Miniplug.html
  4. I own an RM MC11EL remote I use with both my trusty N707 and my RH10 and it works great for the N707 and pretty darn good for the RH10. Pretty cheap too anymore.
  5. Do you know of any way around the alphabet problem other than "24" that would allow editing yet. I do a lot of field recordings and do like to title edit on the fly. It would be greatly appreciated. Thank You.
  6. As far as I could tell, I lost editing capability with the 24 hack. I was able to retitle some MDLP discs I had recorded a while ago, but I had none on HiMD discs except for disc title. When I went back to 21 I could retitle, but the alphabet was "missing" letters.
  7. http://www.magnusbrading.com/mp3ts/ I used this to do batch ID3 conversions. Yes, SS sucks.
  8. I found the same to be true after the hack. Follow the instructions in getting to service mode. Change the value from 24 to 21 to gain edit functions. The alphabet problem is there in that config though, but at least you can edit. 21 is US/Can setting. Also, I did notice that although my unit plays mp3's for the most part just fine, it does not want to play any below 48kb unless I convert them either to ATRAC3+ or to a higher mp3 bitrate. These mp3's are from Leo Laporte from his radio show, and I know he is using a high quality encoder. It's just the low ones that have that problem. It did that in every country code setting by the way.

    Mz-rh10

http://forums.minidisc.org/index.php?showtopic=9743 Sony has copyright issues on those letters so they didn't include them in the RH10
  10. I have noticed a problem with the RH10 and mp3's encoded below 46kbs. It gives the cannot play error on the MD when sent staright over, and will not convert to ATRAC3+ before transfer in sonicstage. You have to manually convert them to ATRAC3+ without transfering; find the files in the optimized file folder(.omg format); then load them back into sonicstage. I'm working on finding a faster way of repairing low mp3 encodes, but for now i'm just reencoding them into higher bitrates using dBpowerAMP Music Converter. I'm finding a lot of podcasts with very low bitrates out there, but 48+ seem to work ok.
  11. Don't rag on podcasts just yet. Lemme tell you the way I look at it, iPod got the whole world buzzing about portabitlity again, and that's a good thing. I am a die hard MD user, and wouldn't trade it for any size iPod. I'm just not into hd players( anyone want to buy a NW HD1 cheap?). MD users have always been at the forefront of content producing mainly because we can make great recordings like no one else. Podcasts can and are being made with MD's. No one is saying this is only for iPods. Listen to engadget's podcast. The guy is begging Sony to clean their act up. Professional reporters have been MD users from the very start. There is a lot to work with here folks. We need to start feeding the content hungry podcast listeners out there with the kind of content owning a MD can provide. Who cares what it's called.
  12. I just entered service mode and successfully changed the value to 24. My entry was also on a changing hexadecimal number that ended in 22 I believe.(I meant to write it down) I had some trouble getting some poorly encoded mp3 files to play on my RH10, and manually encoded them to Atrac last night. I tried uploading an mp3 that I knew was a good encode just now, and it worked and played fine, so I know mp3 support is ok.
  13. I was noticed that too. Kinda freaked me out a little till I clicked over into the dark side of the alphabet. Oh well, what I title on the fly, I always go back and retitle on my PC. Betatest Sony, Betatest!
  14. Mine for the most part works fine. It can't set sound 1 or 2(It sees EQ settings as sound 2, and I can turn it on/off), but play/ff/rw, stop, volume, title, repeat, mode and display function normally. Pressing display scrolls title/artist/album. I was surprised. It didn't want to work with my NW HD1.
