    Sony HDD Players

Thanks for the info, I have a Sony RM-MC33EL remote, but if that doesn't work with it, I may have to pick up a RMMC40ELK, at 120 Can dollars it ain't cheap. What is the difference between the MC33EL and the MC35ELK? Unless it is only some options?
  2. Hmm looking at the specs of the new A3000, it states this as one of the specs: 6 EQ mode: Heavy/Pop/Jazz/Unique/Custom 1/Custom 2 I have this on my MD and the remote as well, which I ask, will the remote then be able to function fully with this unit?

Thanks for the reply, appreciated. I was wondering how long it takes to transfer Mp3s onto the unit? I have usb 2.0 so I am hoping it is faster than the old sonicstage days. edit, now I am not sure if I should wait for the new NW-A3000 player, since it is 20gigs and I am sure will have a lot more options than the HD3.

Moved from minidisc forums: http://www.minidisc-canada.com/shopexd.asp?id=502 Ok so I want to pick that up, to kind of replace my MD, I am getting to a point where I don't have the time to record MDs anymore, and I wanted something that could hold more than just 1 gig. I looked around here in vancouver where I am, and they only have the NWHD1 at best buy, So I am most likely going to have to get it off minidisc canada or even ebay (which I don't want to) I am not sure though if I should opt for the D3 or the D5 model, the D5 looks too much like a lovechild between an Ipod and a gameboy. The D3 looks better but I am sure if worse in the battery category. My question is for owners of the D3 or D5, how long does your battery last on average, please don't quote me the numbers from the manual, those are never correct in real world situations. next I have a remoete from my MZ-N10 and was wondering if it would work with it, or I would have to buy this one: http://cgi.ebay.com/Sony-RM-MC40ELK-Remote...1QQcmdZViewItem at 60 US it's damn expensive and I would rather use my remove I am used to, granted I won't need to use a remote, but then again I will if my old one works. My MD days are ending, I love my MZ-N10, but battery life is begginning to blow chunks and I am really becoming irritated with only 160 minutes of music. I got so many mp3s i want to listen to them on my way to school, the MD just doesn't cut it anymore. I don't want a HiMD, because in my opinion MDs are not the way to go for the future. Not sure if this is the right forum to be asking this, but please do post your comments about these 2 players. thanks.

  6. I understand why Sony is doing this, personally it is a good move on Sony's part. Why run a business when you are loosing money? I've been a fan of the car business for many years now and the same thing happened to GM, it had many products that even though good, lost money and didn't sell. It was no point in contineuing the line. I've been a fan of MD's since I first saw someone bring one to school in 99. Even though my knowledge of MDs was limited back then, I still knew what it was. I couldn't afford one back then, grade 10, but I still wanted one. It wasn't until the last year of high school that I got one, the first MDLP ones. I moved to a CD player but decided to go back to the MD 2 years ago, the NZ10, and haven't turned back. I've never done recording on it, doubt I will ever. Reasons I bought it was that it was small, portable and could hold the same as a cd, or twice. but the beauty was I could change the songs on it on daily basis whenver I got bored of the tracks. Whatever Sony decides to do, I'll support the decision, i've got my MD, and plenty of extra blanks, and can keep re-recording on them as much as I like. It was a good run for the MD, I doubt I will replace it with a memory based player, the sound on some is rather horrible I hear, and I am no fan of apple and its Ipod line. Reasons being, too many people have it. The minidisc is now a premium product, only a few people have it as far as I have seen around the campus, and rarely do people here buy the expensive ones. Only problem I have with my unit is the internal batteries life, it seems to discharge rather easily, meaning i may have to replace it, but I am not sure how it will cost me, too lazy to go do it since I have the extra dry cell battery case, and I picked up a few Li-ion energizer AAs which I have yet to test out. Hopefully sony will think of something that will satisfy both the investors, and consumers. oh ya, now I know what i was going to add also. CDs and what will happen to them. Are they on the way out now with online stores selling ind songs or entire albums? will the cd die off eventually like the MD might? most likely not, but I do see it moving away from music and now more onto data. I still see plenty of people using CD players and many don't even have actual cds in them, but more likely burned complilations from their collection, cough cough. I see more memory based players now, since they are smaller and people can keep them in their pockets or bags and not have to carry a bulk of cds to switch whenever they need to. Ipods are hella popular here too, our bookstore is an Apple reseller so many people pick it up while buying books oddly.
  7. I was seriously going to look into a new Hi-MD this fall, or perhaps early spring since I listen to my MD nonstop to uni, at uni and coming back. Currently I own a MZ-N10, and I have a few complaints, one being the amount I can cram on it, I usually use LP2 and next, the battery life of the built-in Li-Ion battery. It is not what I expected, but then maybe i might need the battery replaced? Anyways, with the additional dry battery addon, there is a solution around it, but the unit works with first using the built in and then switching to the addon, if the built it dies before you stick the addon, you can't use the unit. I would opt for a Hi-MD to get more music out of it, and with an addon dry cell available. That would be the MZ-RH10. But it comes with a poor remote here in canada from minidisc canada, but I can still use the one from my MZ-N10. But the RH10 is a bulkier unit and it's plastic. Ever since I owned my Sony DE-J925, I've been hooked on metallic units, then moving onto the MZ-R900, I had no choice but to go with the MZ-N10. Anyways, I am holding out still on the Hi-MDs, but my question is this. anyone know, if or when Sony will release the next line of Hi-MDs? would it be next spring? Anyone have preliminary info on them? Thanks.
  8. Hmm interesting. I am wondering where the power short occured, to the PC I presume? And not the MD and it wasn't effected in anyway? Since if the MD was damaged it might not record now, again not sure since it could be the PC. Assuming the MD is fine, maybe disc is write protected and you need to switch it back to unprotected, it's happened a few times to me after I switch it not to lose data, simple mistake, just checking again. If that's not the problem, maybe the song you are transferring is not allowed to be transferred. I have had this problem with one song once. It won't transfer as a MP3 only a wav file, which I make after conversion from MP3>>WAV. I'm going to go out on a limb and say the MD could be malfunctioning but that's not 100% certain or proven here. Maybe try recording from something else using the line in and see if it records, if it doesn't then I say the MD is damaged, if it records, it's the software. btw, what is your OS? XP? if so is it all updated, that could be a problem, maybe there is another program running and conflicting with SS.
  9. Only have one problem., and that is after I reinstalled my pc with no SP2 or updates, after I added all the updates it has worked fine. No problems or crashes. It actually works rather smoothly and fast, loads fast too and I have no complaints. btw I am using SS 2.3.

    Mz-n10

This just could be something I am only annoyed with, but I don't like that fact that if the built in battery runs out, the addon dry cell will not work. If I recall correctly my previous MD the MZ-R900 didn't have this issue. But i could be wrong. Don't get me the MZ-N10 is a great player, it works great, sound is great, it's compact and transferring files is a breeze. Not only that i recently found out I was not charging it correctly, since the battary needs 4 hours of charging to be 100%, so I figured out why I wasn't get the noted battery life times. Basically what I want Sony to change is that if the built battery runs out, the mini will still run on the additional dry cell. Reaons for my complaint is that my recent summer stay in europe didn't allow me to recharge the Li-ion battery since i have no converter. I am aware of AC adapter that can be used in europe from minidisco, but the trip was not expected and organized on the fly so I couldn't buy the AC adapter. Finally another complain is why can't sony make the AC adapters like the ones for camcorders or digicams? 100-240v and 50-60hz, nothing major to ask, I know not many people travel with MDs, but I could be wrong,
  11. Thanks for the reply, the pictures don't look that bad, was expecting worse, a bit blurry in the outside photos, but still good. I'll be sure to check the new MDs when they hit the stores here. Thanks for the info btw.
  12. The new MDs from sony are a nice surprise. I wasn't expecting Sony to keep going with them. I'm not one to down play the new MDs but the MZ-DH10P/R is just too much. The camera is a nice feature but how can the unit last when your taking pictures on a daily basis or whatever. I'll wait for someone to buy it and upload the pictures, seeing as I am curious about the quality of the pictures. This is obviously a response to the popularity of the iPod, which I personally don't like. I'm tempted to replace my MZ-N10 with one of the newer 1 gig MDs but then I like to have a long battery life. btw what is the actual case made of out? Aluminum or Magnisium or even plastic? I am curious if Sony will release a 2.3mp next year lol.
